  • Visionary since the very beginning!

That is why she is an icon!

  • She is sooooooo smart.

  • I love this. Noone else who came out back then is as popular as Madonna. She told Hall. 1:15 ha ha

  • KESHA---orh ehm no wait.

  • John Oates's face says it all worth no answer to such a moron like Madonna, he is a real musician as well .... seriously do not understand how she dared to interrupt James Brown

  • @escuipo Because she doesn't give a shit about kissing other peoples arse's. So what if he's a "real musican"? Plenty of them are doing well for themselves just like Madonna is doing well for herself. She's a fanstastic entertainer, visual artist and actually quite creative. And if you see her in other intverviews she's actually quite articulate and intelligent. Even if she doesn't have their natural ability good on her for being ballsy enough to go after what she wanted.

  • she had nothing to do in this seminar .... she does not have the faintest idea ofmusic because of that nobody paid attention ... it is pathetic that such a specimen has succeeded in making music only for scandals and show ass to the world

  • i love this woman.

  • @Budaphly: you are right. I totally agree with you. I hate the artists who imitate other people's style like ...(I don't wanna mention her but I think you guys know who I am taking about !?!?) I'm sick of her. She born this way, born to copy.

  • She is so beautiful but so full of herself too. She is awesome at what she does that's why she's still around.

  • This is why Madonna is a true artist. She understood the industry and she understood music and performance. She didn't follow trends, she started trends and made sure they would become popular. Not like today where artists are all riding the tails of other people's styles.

  • You are most certainly are acting on stage missus as in pretending to be a singer.

  • Waaaay before the British accent popped outta nowhere..

  • she was a bright girl

  • Gorgeous

  • I think most of you men are only intrigued beacuse of your d%&s, men cant think w/out them!

  • @alissweathers

You base this on what exactly? Men are capable of thinking without using their dicks, would recommend that you avoid basing your ideas around cliches and see the world with your own eyes.

  • @blahdelablah Be that as it may, the fact stiill remains, that it's impossible for you to sprout any thought without them. Tell me, how bad is your "little" ego bruised?

  • @alissweathers

Impossible based on what? Are you a biologist? A psychologist? Where do you get your information from?

I do not personally feel bruised by your comments, I comment as I dislike lazy thinking.

  • It would've been a great decade for music, it started out really great with lots of edgy British artists, punk was getting airplay, then wham! All the record companies switched to Madonna wannabe's and the creativity went back underground until the 90's when punk broke with grungier edge. You can't blame M for it but many did, including me at the time.

  • how can you not love her??!!! she's absolutely lovely and charming.

  • John Oates = attitude of the music industry and why it's failing.

Madonna = iTunes, and how music is being distributed, viewed, and appreciated.

  • such a strong woman who knows what she wants! I find her very admirable to be honest!

  • OH NO SHE DIDN'T JUST CUT UP THE JAMES BROWN!!!!

  • i wish i lived in the 80s

    :P

    this looks so awesome

    i don`t like todays fashion

    boring

    :(

  • @erwcat i was there!! Just seemed there was an explosion of new music Hip Hop,House and dance just to name a few, 1984 was a good year ...HOT summer.lol

  • @sixahem you are so right it was a HOT SUMMER lol

  • @erwcat It was a Great time to be alive. No Internet. People were outside, dancing, singing. Peaceful.

  • @PokerChipGod unless you lived inthe inner city. crack killed/kills.

  • In my opinion madonna looked the hottest at this time ! Mmmmm hmmmmm good ! :)~~~~

  • Madonna surpassed them in celebrity, but there's no way you can make a valid argument that James Brown's place in music history is less important than madonna's.

  • I just love that woman!

  • actually if you read the facts, it was the record company and producers working with her that got her started. All her big hits she did not write or arrange. She just sold an image and it worked. people just want to believe and make someone out to be larger than life.

  • @ChesterDoraemon Elvis never wrote a song in his life yet it didn't affect his status, although I do have more respect for people who write their own music. Actually since Madonna has written a lot of her own material and she did write Lucky Star and a few others on her first album.

  • in here you can see the difference between a reactionary, trying to fight against the inevitable, and one who embraces it.

And we all know how the story ended.

  • John Oates probably thinking: Who does this little bitch thinks she is ? Im a superstar, and she´s just a rookie whos been singing for less than 2 years

Dude didnt realize that this little girl would grow up to be the biggest female star ever

  • you tell them MADONNA! ....MADONNA is the QUEEN!

  • I LOVE HER !

  • She pwnd him!

  • I never realized how prissy she was until now. I thought it was just until recently that she adopted this prissy, fake british accent. But she has always had this pretentious, fake voice. Its so annoying. When british people talk with their real accents, its CHARMING. When Madona does it, it sounds forced and prissy.

  • Madonna released her albums like a politician running for office. Always a new concept, new sound, new controversy, new look. All carefully crafted. No other artist, male or female, was as much of a careerist as Madonna. She lives and breathes it with such a powerful and competitive nature.

  • @mymailbox4404

No other artist, male or female, was as much of a careerist as Madonna"

She is so incredibly driven and disciplined which leaves no room for addictions of any kind. In a way, power is her drug i

  • wow, great post. she was so full of promise and boy did she deliver. suppose it helps to have talent, attitude and a brain. killah combo!

  • what a creepy goofy cheesey looking dork john oates was! but madonna, holy crap was she pretty. she still looks good today but even if she didnt, id love to fuck her just knowing she once looked like that.

  • so ahead of her time.

  • i prefer cyndi laupe ;P

  • madonna looks so young and pretty

  • She looks like Kesha.

  • @meathead2001 madonna looks like kesha ? first off madonna and kesha should not even be in the same sentence and second, notttt even. shes way more beautiful, classy and original. :)

  • AMEN to what he said omg... we had to have videos.. true.. but pop music is different from rock.. Pop can include all that acting and character making. Rock is more down to earth and we SHOULDNT be only signing people that are beautiful in the face, but music makers.. the BEST in the times before tv videos were not beautiful people but they were EXCELLENT with music and now ..we suffer in music because of how we choose our artists.

  • @LadyJadeLight Some videos are interesting to watch, but woe is you if you have a fantastic voice, but you don't have the "package"--that is, if you are average looking, or worse, ugly and fat. Mama Cass (look it up) would NEVER have made it these days. Sometimes the future brings cool things, sometimes it doesn't.

  • @LadyJadeLight The masters of mixing pop music with elements of rock/punk is Cheap Trick. So, it's not so different.

  • what can I say, i've been a Madonna fan since childhood, but it's in her interviews that I can really notice she's an intelligent woman. Compare these young Madonna interviews to other interviews of young artists nowadays, these people won't sound as clever as Madonna.

  • LMAO. John Oates you just got PWNED by Madonna!

  • i grew up in the 80s and to me Madonna was the most beautiful woman in the world. I could never take my eyes off her back then, and even today i STILL can't take my eyes off her :-)

  • she was looking straight to the future...She was 5 steps infront of her era...Ans she still is...! She is unic!

  • interesting I grew up in the 80s but never thought of the lycra & gloves fashion as cycling inspried (madonna's shorts "rossi cycles"), I guess it was.

  • Certainly NOT a beauty queen! NOT as natural beauty! Thank goodness for makeup and hair!

  • @disneylandtwo she was very beautiful without make up

  • @cris220677 put ur glasses on!

  • @disneylandtwo maybe u should buy a new pair of glasses

  • She's so pretty!

  • she always had that english twang, even back that... her mom was canadian- wondering if it came through that, even though madonna snr died young?

  • Madonna was so far advanced than these idiots!!!! She saw the "Music Video" as a way of getting the music out there. It's 2010 and she is still making great music and selling alot of records and tour tickets. No offense Hall and Oates..........

  • She interrupted James Brown. That's nuts. Who else could do that? She's great and her videos are great. There will never be another Madonna!

  • I miss the "sassy" younger Madonna. She reminded you of your little sister. Very pretty, very cocky --and, smart as a whip.

  • MJ has always been very overrated. To these days all people know about him is moonwalking and Thriller...and yes they were both great but that man didn't evolve at all artistically. He was stuck in the 80's..... he was the biggest weirdo among celebrities and that is also the reason why he became so famous. Madonna was ground breaking for most part of her career. However, sadly, Madonna seemed to have turned into something different to what she was when she was young, she doesn't risk it anymore

  • this is obviously the pre-british madonna.upper west side accent.

  • 1;25: "Haha..you're acting right now..". I love smartasses who pwn celebs!

  • R&B???? Say what???? Really Madonna.

  • @greattimed Rhythm & Blues in 1984 was much different than what we would consider to be R&B music today. Madonna was considered "urban" because as a white female artist she wasn't following the Pat Benatar rock formula of the day.

  • @greattimed at the time is was pop that was more RnB influenced as compared to all the other white female rock pop chicks

  • This was a couple weeks before she did her VMA performance on MTV. I wonder if any of those artists had any idea they were in the presence of the biggest female star ever and would go on to surpass all of them in music history ???

  • @IconicCulture Those artists did not have a clue.

  • that was the good Madonna

  • @1969captainron she did own him.

  • She seemed smarter back then! She's still one of the smartest pop singers around, though.

  • Modelspicebio: The point he was making was that not all musicians want the pressure of having to become actors in order to present their music. Many musicians want to just play their music with no choreography, no showy presentation. He is saying that he only wants to play his music. There is a difference between acting and simly performing a raw song. Perhaps he was referring to Madonna's ridiculous "Like a Virgin" display. Perhaps, that is what she considers acting?

  • @Burritoability, u r the ridiculous one here cos Madonna Like a Virgin album was not even out at the time of this interview, as she's confirming in this interview...... so he was not obviously referring to that.

  • Both MJ and Madonna are so alike yet they have different minds

  • She's better than Mike!! Get some.........

  • She was allways a mouthy bitch....probably very smart

  • Thanks for posting this...I love the face she makes when she tells them the name of her new album.

  • Madonna's the best entertainer ever

    Jacko = a joke

  • Well said Madonna

  • After her retort to that Hall and Oats guy, it was then, a lot of people realized that Madonna was witty and had a brain.

  • I <3 her attitiude about the first single on new album - I did that once! classic! :)

  • That dude fr. Hall & Oates (think his name is Oates) has a great point, but Madonna dun tol' him wrong LOL. & has a great point, too.

  • No strings attached just a very very smart girl telling it like it is!! It was obvious at the time to see that she was going to shake up the industry, but she went on to shake up the world in the process!! To me she is the biggest icon in the world and will go down as the greatest recording artist to ever live!!

  • @FrameCatcher04 Oh yeah, Shes soooooooooooooooooo fine!!

  • She is a genius and the biggest icon in the world!!

  • DANCE MUSIC of MADONNA LIVE by PIANO TEACHER !

  • She's so painfully obvious, but it gets the point across...She's cool and aloof in a way...Like she knows something you don't. Like you haven't shaved or she doesn't like your outfit.

  • True the first time I heard Madonna, I thought she was Black. I saw her first in The Copa ft lauderdale club.I sneak in I was only 16.

  • John Oates....Cat got your tongue @ 1:25?

  • i know Madonna has been massively influential in the music industry in many ways, but so was Micheal Jackson. Not only that but was even able to do his music with a story from time to time and in my mind that's better than what Madonna has done

  • @sxv32idf when has madonna not told a story? she's addressed issues like sexism, homophobia, materialism, and different aspects of the catholic church. i know i'm gonna get shit for this, but madonna had just as much influence on music and pop culture as michael jackson. period.

  • @burbscinates Qualify your statement by saying in the US and perhaps Canada and England. Nobody had as much influence on 1980s pop culture than Michael Jackson. His was worldwide, growing up I liked Madonna alot and thought her style of dressing was hot, but I didn't literally leave anything I was doing to watch her on tv.

  • @dbastard1977 i'm saying madonna had more influence on POP CULTURE. things like style, censorship, women's rights, sexism, homphobia, and the "celebrity" as we know it. michael had a greater impact on music and the performing arts...not so much pop culture.

  • @sxv32idf what? Much of Madonna's music tells a story as well. I'm not sure what your point about that is.

  • SHE STOPS JAMES BRWON FROM INTERRUPTING HER! I love her even more. BIG cahones.

  • O and also for those who didnt know Rick James was the shit in the 80's too.

  • That was kind of rude when she cut off james brown, but she apologized. And i respect her speaking up & being fierce in that conference or whatever it was. She shows great strength. And for a woman. that is so hard sometimes.

  • Man, I was a 1 year old when this aired. I miss those days. I would kill to go back to the 80's.

  • @kramnrublaw Are you kidding me the 80's sucked ass. The only thing good about them were the Cartoons, Hulk Hogan, Madonna, Micheal Jackson and Prince. I thought the 90's were way better. Rock, Rap and entertainment in general got better in the 90's

  • @MrTUFFTALK hell no. so much of music today and the synthesized sounds you hear more and more are most definitely 80's inspired, just modernized. The 80's were the shit, but actually I agree that the 90's were better.

  • She was so smart and cute. I wonder if she sometimes look at her old stuffs on youtube.

  • Video killed the radio star.

  • and the internet killed the recording industry

  • both comments by louiseveronica 1958 and tallbridge are dead on..i can't said any better..

  • both comments by louiseveronica 1958 and tallbridge are dead on..i can't said any better..

  • I was shocked when she interrupted James Brown! I want to see the confrontation between Madonna and Nona Hendryx.

  • @Hunkola I respect what Michael Jackson did, but his brilliance faded in the mid 1980s. After that, he just seemed to rehash the same music and dance moves and didn't seem all that interested in what was happening outside his bubble. By the 1990s, MJ was known more for the kid thing than his music. A tragedy and waste of talent. Madonna did pay very careful attention to what was around her and her numerous reinventions of style in both her look and her music and her performances shows that.

  • @Hunkola Your mom is an average whore.

  • If this cunt came out before MTV, she would never ever ever have been given a record deal in a billion years for the simple fact she sucks. MTV has done such incredible damage to usic it`s insane. Before a singer or band would sell on how good the music was. After MTV it was all about image and fraud.

  • Madonna owns Michael Jackson. Fact

  • lol @ 0:54 guys JAJAJajja MEXICAN xD

  • OMG, so glad to have found this. I was there that weekend at the NMS and was lucky enough to have "met" her and got her autograph. Also saw her at 1983 NMS perform on the roof at Danceteria. Amazing.

  • MJ will never be as good as Madonna becuase he all he always did was the billie jean, glove and moonwalk dances all the time; he never came out with anything new or fresh in his shows or music; Everytime he performed it was just the same old act over and over again! But Madonna; well thats a totally different ballgame; every album and tour had its own look; she constantly had something new and fresh to offer; besides Paul Mcartney will always be a better songwriter than MJ!

  • Madonna putting on a little English accent in the panel part is cute. I can't believe that artists got that bothered about music videos. It's all a moot point now, just try to find music videos on TV anymore in between Real World reruns and Jersey Shore, LOL

  • @squeapler

I fucking hate that, you turn on MTV which stands for MUSIC Television and do I see? Stupid casting shows and advertisements for ringtones. Over and over.

  • why do people compare lady Gaga to Madonna?.. She hasn't got any of the spark and witt that Madonna has

  • @owersoon

Because Lady Gaga is the closest of this generation you could get. If you are too young to relate to Madonna, who else could you pick? It's either Gaga or Pink. And Pink's music is too rock oriented to really compare.

  • @Puschit1 I go with Christina Aguilera

  • @Puschit1 I'm only 22 and can relate to Madonna. Age doesn't come into it.

    She's an incredible performer.

  • how the hell did Madonna open doors for black people by doing R&B? Michael Jackson already had the best selling album of all time before anyone even knew who fuck Madonna was. Not to mention Stevie Wonder was already a multi-grammy winning legend in the 70s with a string of number 1 hits. The Supremes were one of the biggest selling female acts of all time when Madonna was in high school. Saying she opened doors for black people is like saying Justin Timberlake opened doors for black people.

  • @xgs724 agreed. Her own brother stated that she "sexed" herself up to sell records. She never grew up singing and dancing like Michael Jackson or even Celine Dion. Singing came by and she took the opportunity otherwise she'd be a prostitute and rightfully so.

  • @arielc1ful She never grew up singing and dancing? Hello she turned down a full dance scholarship to take a chance moving to New York. Just because she didn't grow up with drill sergeant parents forcing her to sing and dance from birth doesn't mean she wasn't a natural born performer. And what does her being sexual have anything to do with her being a prostitute. I guarantee she's more intelligent than you.

  • @arielc1ful Also even with all that training from birth Michael had, whose career faded out well over a decade ago, his or hers? His in case you didn't know.

  • @MooriahScary

THANKYOU! MADONNA IS WAAAAAAAAY BETTER STAR THAN MJ! GOD REST HIS SOUL, BUT MADONNA RULES!

  • @DUANEMUSIC1 um hellllllll no u must have lost ur damn mind... she had absolutely nothin on him...at all she can barely sing witout the stupid voice they put on.... cnt believe u actually said that

  • @123hotcookie321

    MADONA MADONNA MADONNA

    TALENT AMBITION AND SEX APPEAL

    MJ:

TALENT...AND DATS PRETTY MUCH IT! MADONNA IS A WAAAAY BETTER STAR! AND IF U DONT LIKE HER DEN, STOP WATCHING HER VIDS! GET A LIFE! RUDE YOUTUBE VEIWERS! >_<

  • @DUANEMUSIC1 I completely disagree, but then I'm not American, most non American people especially those who lived at that time would disagree with you statement. Disagreeing with you doesn't mean that people are rude. Madonna cannot really sing all that well and Michael Jackson could, however, she had stage presence and a good marketing strategy. I liked Madonna in the 80s when I was growing up and she really is an entertaining character but there should be no comparison to MJ at all.

  • @dbastard1977 You're right. There shouldn't be any comparison to MJ because Madonna is FAR SUPERIOR!

  • @SeanAvolio Yeah, both her singing and dancing "skills" are outta worldly!!!! I'm sure people all over the world will be building monuments in her honour, when she goes!!!

  • @arielc1ful Urm excuse me but that's why I find Madonna's success more admirable than somebody like Celine Dion. She came into it relatively late with all the odds stacked against her and she still made it, that shows strength of personality and will plus she's still here. And so what if she "sexed things up", didn't Mick Jagger in the 60's with the Rolling Stones, what do you think "I Can't Get no Satisfaction" is about?

  • @xgs724 I don't think that's what she said. Madonna's point was that she was a big part in people getting away from placing artists in hard and fast music genre catagories.

  • Wow, looks like she was trying to speak in a hoity-toity affected accent even way back then!

  • how dumb does the guy from hall and whatever sounds now?

  • i love how he just took her stand here! powerful lady even then, and well, the rest is history

  • wow this is amazing footage seeing her just before she became the queen of pop. this reminds me loads of lady gaga's interview atm

  • If you go back to the 1930's, singing and dancing in film was a mandatory requirement for actors so this whole music video performance conceptually is'nt new. It was new for television but not film makers. A lot of actors in the 1930's did'nt like tha idea but they did it to work.

  • this is great footage; how quick and right she is

  • Madonna is a great performer, she can dance, sing and has presence. I like most of her music and definately enjoy watching her. However there is definatley a lack of great strong muscianship and song writing in POPULAR music today. It is kind of a beauty contest.

  • Madonna knows what people like..she is passionate and hardworking

  • Madonna is successful because she knows how to exploit weakness.

  • that's a good point what do you mean ?

  • Comment removed

  • most people commenting here are bitching because they don't get what she's talking about

  • Madonna says that singing is the same as acting, the camera is on you so what is the difference? I will tell you the difference- if you are just acting and not playing music- that means you are not playing music? (Hello!) AND the bigger differnece, Madonna, would be that in your case (for example) you can't act. When the cameras are on you and you are not performing (music) you bomb. Huge difference! It's not the same, dear!

  • @Burritoability She didn't say that AT ALL. Madonna's argument was that when you are on stage and singing a song you have a persona for that song. So in that sense you are acting (for instance, you may be singing about heartache, although at that very moment you are happily in love). So what's the difference between a live performance of a song and someone recording that live performance and putting it on tv? Most videos at the time were just the band playing the song anyway.

  • That's a very kissable mouth. I would like to spend about fifteen minutes with her when she was at that age just kissing. But I would ask her to brush her teeth first. And I would too.

  • @imjustpassinthru uh duuhh tsssskkk

  • It depends on the type of "show" you do. If you're pretending to be something other than yourself and you give "it" a different name, then you're acting. If you're performing or singing as yourself you're not acting. Performing, yes, acting, no. That's why ppl in movies "as themselves" behave...as their selves.

  • She looks like shit now

  • thats nice

  • @GazMysticism No its not really nice. Its more on the shitty side.

  • Usually shit flys from peoples mouths when they ve nothing nice 2say

  • @GazMysticism Yeah but this bitch doesn't deserve anything nice so I decided to point out that she looks like a shriveled up grandma now. Is that ok? Or should I just be quiet about it.

  • I guess if thats what u think then thats up 2you,personally i think shes an incredible woman with depth intelligence strength humour compassion, she luks pretty sexy 2me i have nothing but respect for Madonna, its a pity u cudnt see what i see open ur eyes

  • @GazMysticism You've met her?

  • i havnt but ive been touched by her on an emotional level

  • @GazMysticism I met her. She's a cunt. I am a fan of her work though. And she gave me my first real hard on's when I was a kid. The fact is this. Madonna would treat you like a peon. She's probably a bit nicer now since she is elderly but damn, the woman is an asshole. F her.

  • ok everyones a cunt now and again;)

  • i like the way u say elderly wat does age matter shes only 51,maybe ur being an asshole with the things ur saying

  • @GazMysticism I apologize. She's cool. I like Madonna.

  • No prob;)

  • @StanRather

how is she a cunt ?? can you tell us your story ? ;)
