No Way.!! Jim McCann from the dubliners is nowhere near as good as this version. Saying that if you REALLY want the definitive version, type in The Clancy Brothers version into Youtube..No wonder Bob Dylan said that Liam Clancy had the best voice he ever heard. His version of ' Carrickfegus ' will have you in tears.

@a01087483 I suggest getting the entire soundtrack, in a CD or on itunes, whichever, because it's superb. Apart from Carrickfergus, which is I think the best rendition of the song I've heard, the other songs are great as well. Really makes you think of the series and its timeline.

As a Loudon Wainwright expert of 30 odd years, I can assure you that Carrickfergus is not officially available on CD by Loudon, nor has he even sung the song at his concerts.

Possibly through his friendship with one of the stars - Steve Buscemi - he was asked to record the song exclusively for the episode of Boardwalk Empire.
