they say when you try to quite sugar that its shown in studies done on rats that you can withdrale bad from sugar if you been eating alot of it and then stop,, i try to cut down before going cold turkey it seems to work better that way in my oppionion maybe im wrong,,just thought i ll share my advice..
I thought sugar from fruit isn't bad for you, or is it? I'm on board with this, but i don't think i'll be giving up fruits..where am I supposed to get my daily need of vitamins if I would? Could anyone explain? :-)
@theguym Fruit is fine to eat and is nowhere near as dangerous as white sugar, white flour, or any refined sugars, (Glucose, Fructose, Sucrose, Dextrose) as well as artificial. Fruit is actually very healthy, but try not to go overboard, as large amounts can still spike your insulin. .I'm late on this challenge, but the good message is still hitting strong. I want to continue to improve my ability to use good advice when I get it, so I think im gonna take on this one, Thanks!
oh erin... just saw your vids now and i think they're soooo helpful!!! im gaining too much weight now and i really want to be back to my normal shape.... gonna use all your tips... thanks!
I nearly dont eat any unnecessary sugar, so i drink water, of course milk in the mornin', cuz I need calcium. And then i basically dont eat anything with a abnormal sugar level. But sugar is needed for your brain. But 21 days = your body is used to, not being a sugar-zombie :D!..
Heads up to some of those following this detox: Lets all post some of the snacks and meals that we're trying out! I'm trying Beef Jerky, Olives, and Pickles for snacks! They're hearty and a good salty treat to keep me away from those doughnuts in the break room.
hey erin! i love ur pilates videos and play them every morning to do my own little home work out :) I'm a Human Biology graduate and I think you should include more healthy sugars like clementine and oranges since your brain uses up more glucose than any part of ur body. you might want to include more healthier kinds... also if you can eat sugar cane drinks, thats as healthy as the sugar gets but it wont be detrimental to your body! good luck!
uhmm its the tenth of jan. in my country.... we eat rice here... is that good? but, not so much of the processed food coz we got lots of vegetables, fish, meat, tropical fruits.... but i guess mangoes have a lot of sugar...
Ok! I'm in Erin! It's mind over cravings! I posed a comment on your blog. I wanted to ask if white rice is off the menu. Also what about whole wheat pastas? (and what is that enriched pasta about?) I'm thinking up lots of stir fried meals with tons of my favorite veggies and chicken over rice or pasta. Now that I know potatoes are still in I'll be going for that as well!
replace white rice with brown, replace enriched white pasta with whole grain pasta if you can find it, better yet, throw the veggies and chicken over quinoa. good luck!!!
I definitely want to try it. Caught my attention when u said this challenge will make u feel with more energy, think is about time I stop using sugar as my mainly fuel. I`m a student and that`s kind of the 1st thing I look for when I feel I need something to keep going. So I`m really willing to experiment this.
I'd like to say I'm totally with you on this...but I'd be lying. I know that there is no way that I could cut out EVERYTHING for 21 days. White flour? I have been improving my eating habits slowly for some time &I'm getting there but not ready for something this full on yet.
I'll be doing it as best I can though without going too mad on reading labels, I've cut out a lot of the bad stuff already.
I know I won't get the full benefits of this if I only do half measures, but every little helps!
congrats on making some changes towards a healthier diet! yep, white flour is highly processed, refined and a close second behind sugar as one of the worst things to eat. it acts just like sugar in the body once you consume it. much better to eat sprouted grains. 21 days in nothing... you can totally do it!!
this will make meals so easy! simply eat lots of veggies and protein. scrambled eggs with avocado and salsa, big salad with vegggies and tuna, chicken thighs or breasts with green beans and a side salad... hope those suggestions helped.
ooohhh geeezz. I'm totally addicted to Dr Pepper (and I know it's awful for me!) ....however....I am going to try this. I REALLY want to eliminate sugar as much as possible from my diet. Do you have any advice on cutting out sodas cold-turkey? I have done this before only to get discouraged with a 2-day-long raging headache :-/ Tips??? And THANKS for the challenge!
YES! go for it! it takes about 3 days for the sugar withdrawal symptoms to subside. if you can make it to day 3 you are smooth sailing. drink lots of water to help the body get through those 3 days. you can do it!
almost all food has glucose in it :) so, eliminating sugar is not eliminating glucose. you do however want to eliminate food that is high in glucose, especially concentrated and refined glucose like table sugar, honey, anything made with white flour etc...
why No stevia?

@theguym Fructose (the sugar in fruit) is metabolized differently than Glucose.
People with liver issues (which is a lot of people in Western society frankly) should especially avoid fructose.
But once those issues are dealt with, it's necessary to reintroduce fruit, because there's more good about fruit than there is bad.

Erin, I am doing the same thing. I thought even days you cut ALL sugars out and then green color fruits afterward?
Samantha1983Dec 1 year ago
Hi Erin, I never heard of sugars being this bad. Are we supposed to eliminate even fruit sugars for good? Where could I learn more? thank you

This actually works.
Gotta love your vegetables though....
zahmac01 2 years ago
honestly, this is friggin bad for you
your body needs its minimal 5 grams of sugar per day even if you are trying to lose weight!
no fruits? no bread? What do you expect people to eat? broccoli for 21 days?! they might aswell be anorexic!
its going to be just like the atkins diet, no carbs to fruits, just vegatable and meats.... yeah so that your muscles can start eating itself!
ive watched all ur videos and LOVED them but this one was a shocker erin
Han272 2 years ago
@Han272
Dude... Did you not know that even stuff like nuts have got sugar in them? And anyway, I think it's 5g of GLUCOSE per day, not refined sugar.
For the record, the atkins diet only advocates no fruits for the first two weeks. You won't DIE. Geez.
shu1805 2 years ago
@Han272 read a little better ,she never said no fruit ,apples and bannanas have sugar naturally thats enough for your body

what about a baked potato? I know it is considered white, what do you think

baked potato has a high glycemic load, but it's WAY better than refined carbs. so I'd say it's okay :)

She says that anything that tastes sweet should go- so that would leave stevia out.
You can still likely get plenty of glucose from veggies for brain function for the 21 days.
I'm getting on-board! Post holiday smackdown is really necessary!

you should try to eliminate anything that tastes sweet to re-set your taste buds/body to not crave sweets, including stevia
