  • Of course software is expensive to make! Are you people retarded or something? Did you see all those cubicles?

    Cubicles are the driving force of our economy. They break the spirit of the 80 plus hour rank and file who do the actual work and give the middle managers a purpose (rearranging cubicles).

    Next time you get the feeling that a society centered around over priced imaginary property isn't realistically sustainable... STOP and think of the cubicles.

  • I love using the iMac from 1995 still. It runs like new :)

  • Nice comb over!

  • $500 in 1985, Free now.

  • I wonder why programs back then were about and sometimes a lot more expensive as they are today? Back then you had maybe 128K to work with and making those programs weren't that hard. I can understand today with programs that run into the gigabytes with modern graphics and sound but back then it was possible to have the whole program written down on few sheets of paper.

  • haha @1:47

    C++ ^.^

  • @pufixas Are you sure it's not C instead? ^.^

  • @charray

    C++ is updated version of C...

    So I can say it's both

  • Piracy..since 1985 before I was born. Hot damn.

  • now we have p2p, if only they knew........

  • more importantly why didn't the software/media industries die with such rampant piracy

  • Dont copy that floppy!

  • LMAO!

  • Why does software and even games cost so much? This pretty much sums some of it up: first human nature and greed;

    secondly a lot of game companies and publishers are of medium and large size.

    Rare and special for an indie or even a small team to make and sell comercial software and games. Milk the cash cows, while thru the years and contunally bombard and condition people to be consumerist slaves. the cost of living and of other products and services too.

    Repeat and cycle back.

  • i think it makes sense when you think about "software programs" and replacing it with x. so when the "story" was written in the studio they may have canned whatever word was in place of "software programs" . for example they could have written the story "Why does software cost so much?" which works fine, but maybe later they needed to add the line programs and didn't truly think of the horrible consequences that there would be people on the "internet" giving them shit for it

  • then again does indicates a plural noun coming up without it having to actually be plural. example "why do programs cost so much?" then again it would only work for a widely known noun like "why does bread\beer\cement cost so much?"

    which would indicate that back in this day and age the term "software programs" really was misunderstood

  • Well they sure put a stop to piracy back in the 80's.

  • lol

  • I grew up in Dubai. Back in the 80's, software piracy was basically legal (largely because the government didn't give a shit) and finding any original copies of any game, or movie for that matter (yes many places offered blatantly pirated movies. I remember getting a tape of Aladdin from Pizza Inn after we got their 'pizza with free movie' offer. The tape was the shittiest quality I've ever owned, and to top it all, the movie was BANNED in the UAE!). So during that time, it was a piracy haven.

  • @Hotshotter3000 kinda like malta i used to live thier and ALL films and games were copied
