I didn't think you were correct about that notion, but after some research you were entirely. Written in London by Robert Hunter 1970.

If I remember the legend correctly, Hunter sat down with a case of wine and wrote "Brokedown Palace", "To Lay Me Down", and "Ripple", in the same afternoon. Must have been a hell of a vintage.

You are perfectly correct 11kaj. Bob was in London at that time, and his father had died. The Dead as a band were in a bad way at that time, being, in more ways than one " Uncle Tom's band."

Ripple is a truly amazing work.
