? Sonic 3& Knuckles This is a hack; the creator put a Metal Sonic sprite in place of Sonic. You can transform into Super Sonic when you posses 7 Chaos emeralds. And it's totally 'possible' without the Emeralds...

Multiple, but for this one sonmap, a hex editor, and a sprite sheet. It's very complcated and time consuming took me at least 1/4 a day to do this. SO MANY SPRITES.
