it wasnt a blooper. ive seen the entire episode of this. it was sorta a parody of come back sheeba starring burt lancaster. in fact burt lancaster was the special guest on this episode
HAHAHA look how Dean smiles and touches Jer on the shoulder at :18, as if he knows what Jerry's about to do or something, LOL! I love how Jerry explains it, lol!
I totally think that it was a mistake that the clothes didn't spring out like they were supposed to, Its called Ad lib what jerry just did, and He is the best at it. I think it was just a blooper, it wasn't staged at all.
You are so right he is good at ad lib. Look up the Cavett interview on youtube. He ad libs all over the place, including with the audience. It is well known many comics cannot ad lib. Jerry even wrote most of the material for him and Dean.
The sketch is about Jerry and Dean getting a new apartment or hotel room or something, and a drunk guy comes in and thinks he's at his house. He comes in like right after Jerry turns on the radio.
Another great gag that they often do is to open a suitcase or picnic basket and continue to pull stuff out of it like tables, and chairs, etc. That's always a funny bit.
Dunno, cant tell if dean's waiting for it to happen for a second and then luaghs when it doesnt or if he really isn't expecting anything and just acts suprised...at anyrate love these guys forever.
I disagree with Arkady63. I've been watching Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin scketches for the past 20 years of my life, and there is no such pattern of mistakes. These two men are comic and performing geniuses. As an actor, you learn to deal with mistakes/bloopers in a smooth and controlled manner. I do not think they are staged.
Of course it wasn't a blooper. The whole thing was staged to "go wrong" and in doing so, it brought the audience closer to the performers. We're made to think something went wrong. Jerry addresses the audience in a personal way, confiding in us of their "mistake." In those days people did fall for it! It gave all of the viewers something to talk about the next morning. How it went wrong...so you can bet that people remembered the "blooper"for days. Get it?

The more Jerry Lewis I watch the more I can see how much he influenced the likes of Lee Evans.

its true, that was no blooper, just look at Deans reaction. Ive noticed some other malfunctions and they are not staged.
