this is actually better for your ears than q-tips...q-tips push some wax further into your ear whereas this technique pulls it out (as long as you make sure you don't stab it into your inner ear)
@nicobar100 He was totally not into it. But based on the thumbs down I have gotten for this video I can only assume people have found it disgusting. It's every day stuff, actually.
@jeremy0203 Well, in much the same way that I am my wife's personal 'trash-taker-outer' she gets to be my ear cleaner. Heh. My wife really likes to do this and it scares me. I prefer to pop pimples, honestly.
@SoKindOne You are right that it is not just Korean. My wife is Korean and this is how it was done when I lived in Seoul, South Korea for two years. I know that Asians have different ear wax than Caucasians so this is better for their type of ear wax (dry, flaky) as opposed to wet/moist/sticky. Amazing, eh?
It's stupid to remove wax just for the sake of it. It protects your ears from all sorts of evilness. Removing wax makes you prone to ear infections, virusses, etc. Only remove wax when your ears are overproducing it and are clogged.
@MasterTra I don't think we're doing it wrong. We actually have a different kind of ear wax. Caucasians are generally going to have wet ear wax but Asians mostly have dry. It's really interesting if you read about it, seriously. I was so surprised when I found out.
@BubbleMonsterGum You've got to be very careful when you're poking around in your ears, it's dangerous. Bleeding does not sound very good at all. I was talking to a doctor that my wife and I know and he highly recommended that no one do it for you. You need to do it yourself.
@Crysis482 It's so hard to know if it is really Japanese or Korean or Chinese. There is so much overlap! Honestly it's very hard to know, but maybe we could find out who patented it first and we'd be much closer... But then again, patents are probably from the first person with lots of money and smarts... Inventions and patents, oh joy.
Your guess is as good as mine, but I'd say they all do it this way in Asia.
Oh for Christ sake just get a little water squirt gun toy and squirt ya ears out clean. Poking around with in ya ear with stuff like that isn't a good idea.
@DreamCore2011 My wife would agree with you 100%. If mine get crazy nasty I use the syringe and shoot hot water in my ear and that's about the best I have ever felt. I always did wonder why they had different ones if everyone had the same ear wax... but obviously I was wrong!
@iAlixe I know, it's scary isn't it? I for one don't really care to have stuff like that put into my ears. It looks like it's going to reach out and cup my ear drum and I'm always nervous when my wife is poking it around in my ear. Besides, our good friend who is a retired doctor recommended not doing it for another person! Only we know when it hurts!
@anabolicking1 I would just go to a doctor! This didn't work for me at all. Or, you can use the syringe, that rubber thing that you fill up with hot water and squirt water into your ear a bunch of times. That works well to get out all the junk... I would be careful because your ears are very important!
@anabolicking1 Good news! My Dad always uses the syringe and he's been very happy with it. Healthy ears are good ears. I'm glad to hear you're no longer in pain!
never remove your earplug i did in china once, but my doctor told me you need the pressure in the ear to hear so hold your nose and breath/strain and pop your ears that is the best way
@MrLukedanger Are you talking about while you're in an airplane or just taking out the wax? If you're talking about the airplane I always plug my nose and blow and it pops my ears. I have learned so much from this video, I mean, before I did this I didn't even know that Asians and Europeans have different ear wax! Amazing.
I am Korean and my mother used these on me as a child :)
I loved it in a sick sense, my ears left really refreshed and clean!
I wouldn't use it for waxy ear wax however, only flaky dry ones. Those are meant for scraping and it could damage if used otherwise! Thanks for sharing.
@impossiblefeel Is putting stuff in your ears ever good for your hearing? I don't think so, honestly. In the US, we generally use Q-tips, which I cannot say is better or worse than this method. Putting stuff in my ear makes me nervous all the time.
I honestly don't think that whites or asians or anybody really has different ear wax. I think we just have differing solutions to the removal. No matter how we do it though we should be careful! Thanks for watching.
@vivachilegringito Actually, there are 2 types of earwax. One is dry and flakey, and the other is moist. The difference is like boogers and snots in your nose. 80% of Asians have the dry type, while 80% of Europeans have the moist type. Scientists in Japan isolated the gene which causes the difference several years ago.
@impossiblefeel You know, if you want to bet money on it I'll bet you 10 to 1 that you're right and I'm wrong. I was just the camera guy, haha. It looks like I might have to add that to my reading list for the next installment of this video! Thanks for the info.
Actually, people from different parts of the world have different ear wax. People who live in the dessert have a different wax than those who live in the rainforest. Each environment has different things that wax helps with. Dessert people don't get sand in their ears because of their wax.

Whites dont have stiff ear wax so the only thing that this type of cleaning can cause is ear irritation.
