If you noticed, 85irishob, the late great Liam Clancy did a beautiful tribute to Shane MacGowan a few years ago in NYC. You can find it on Youtube. He performed his tune called "The Broad Majestic Shannon"
@lms01234 He's a brilliant writer, and he was a great performer in his heyday, but the more I watch their recent performances, the more I think that all of the hard living has taken a serious toll on his talent.
@hanshotfirst1138 Only a deluded fanboy would disagree with you. I personally think that he is one of the great wasted talents. However, to call his music "crap" and music for the "brain dead" is utterly ridiculous.
@lms01234 I agree. Hey, who knows? Maybe Shane will make a comeback one day and surprise us all. The guy was a songwriting genius in his heyday. The Pogues first three albums are brilliant stuff, and Shane's first solo outing isn't bad. The guy made masterpieces back before the liquor melted so many brain cells, but it's sad. Shane's influence is far and wide-Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Tossers, to name a few, and its influence his inarguable. I just think he's wasted so much talent.
@85irishob while you are entitled to your opinion, i strongly disagree. shane sings for the angels and though his speech may not sit with your spoiled expectations, his mind and lyrics far surpass that of most musicians from his era.
For us who grew up at the track...this song is fucking brilliant. I was at the tracl at 4 years old...still am...
"Bookies cursing cars reversing"...rings true...so any haters, go screw

Brain dead? Hardly. MacGowans lyrics are among the best in pop music.
