This is not that good of a symphony IMO. The harmony is bland and hodgepodge. For the style it simply cannot compare to Vaughn William's Sea Symphony or a Mahler 2nd or 8th. No comparison in skill and basic good ideas. No comparison whatsoever to those choral symphonies. But we want to hear it anyway. He deserves to be heard.
Having just listened to a recording of your Brisbane concert I must say the performance was brilliant. I personally love the 1980 Schmidt version. Your interpretation was different to the Brabbins at the Proms but just as good. Xylo solo in the vivace is very special.
I know I'm writing this after the event, but what a GREAT promo!
Love the computer-generated English Potteries background and the rather romantic-looking Havergal Brian. (He would have spoken in a strong Potteries accent and didn't have a beard. But what the heck, that's artistic licence!)
"The Gothic" is - according to my sources - due to be performed at the 2011 London Proms. It would be great if the concept of this promotional video could be copied by the Proms marketing team!
is there is a recording of this brisbane concert??

its not cursed--that's silly. orchestras don't just want to pull it off--its too expensive.
