This is the worst mission area I have ever worked in! At the time I served there with the EU assistance mission to AMIS, on arrival I found the mission was stagnant. The AU soldiers were and probably still are, ill equipped and poorly led. Many AU soldiers were not receiving their pay from their home governments although each government was receiving the money from the EU. [Prior to UN takeover] It follows that there is little commitment or motivation from the AU military on the ground.
