I have a super intelligent fawn lab 9 weeks ++ old and he happily stays in the crate for 8 hr comfortably. He is hyper active, aggressive, good to train & healthy. He is already house trained 2 thanks to the crate which actually is pretty big. He has not soiled his crate even once till date. I hv small children so wanted to make sure who is the boss from day 1. he loves his bedroom guys ... please love your dog but remember he is a dog. I love him so much and I am doing this for his good 2
eight hours is actually typical for a dog to stay in a crate. you just have to make sure you are walking the dog and being very active with them when you are capable. Read all dog manuals are watch ceasar the dog whisperer. If you are that concerned about your dogs feeling you have obviously put them on a human level instead of a dogs. They will view you as week instead of the pack leader and will rule your house. baby the dog if you want, but dont cry when they are using your house as a toilet.
8 HOURS!!!! THAT ANIMAL CURALTY!!!!!!!! U NEED A STRAIGHTJACKET AND PRONTO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I COULD SEE MAYBE 1 HOUR! IF THAT PER DAY! THE DOG WILL GET THE IDEA!!!! NOTE: who ever whatches thihs and plans on doing so, i recamend not 8 hours, your puppy does have a memory and will hate u!
It's perfectly okay to put a dog in a crate for 8 hours. This guy is not nuts as to that statement. I provide a water bottle similar to a rabbit or guinea pig water bottle and connect that to the crate. Just make sure the crate is large enough for the dog to stand up, stretch and turn around. The wire crates these days are humane. It's owners who take advantage of its use that become the problem. For the puppy I have room enough for a small feeding bowl and bed along with a puppy pee pad.
When i put my dog in a crate, it whines and scratches the crate because it hates the fact that it is lock up. He's a puppy and not potty trained yet. Any other ideas besides crate training?
@aimeejoy10@aimeejoy10 lol a year later i check back to this video because someone replied to me and i did NOT know that my comment was highest thumbs up. =>w<=
I just brought my new puppy home a couple of days ago. And he seems hesitant, almost afraid, of going potty outside. I've had more accidents indoors than successes outdoors. How can I get him over this nervous/strange behavior?
It's not really a good idea to put a pup younger than 3 months for 8 hours in a crate but beyond that it's very wise to start building it up, 1 week 2 hours, second week 4 hours, third week 6 etc. That's what i did with my dog when he was still in training to become a K9 Unit, after 2 years he got a certificate and started to come to my work. He's not just a pet, but also my best friend and partner :)
continiously for 8hrs is way too long, but not after 6 months, then it is perfectly fine. Since you do have to sleep/work. And its much better to have the dog in a crate since it wont go to the bathroom where he is gonna lie down or sleep.

lithium803 2 years ago
I have a Cross Dutch Shepherd, (Cross between Malinois and Dutch Shepherd, but the collors of the Dutch).

true...1 hour for every moth of life plus one: 3 month old puppy can stay ina crate for 4 hours...this is the gold standard.
Robertd68 2 years ago
so if the dog is 24 months old, it's perfectly acceptable to lock a dog away for 24 hours/day?
lithium803 2 years ago
wen i get a puppy im gonna give is what it wants and a speceal place in the garden

8 hours?!?!?! in a smal cage?!?!?
It freaks me out when and "expert" says it's ok to have a dog in a small cage for eight hours
Someone chould lock him up for 8 hours in a cage when see how he feels about that...
A Wolf sleep in a open den for them to get out and get in when they feel like it.
By closing the cage you are forcing the dog to stay in it..
It's mutch as neurological bad for human as for dogs to be locked up in a smal area..
