haha, this crowd is funny, sadly typical: compare reactions to clarke's really great harp break at the outset, and then the guitar break that follows.
You're right that the guitar break gets a ripple while Bill gets nothing but generally speaking audiences dig the harp as much as the guitar-especially the girls!
Thank you for post this! Brings back great memories of my time hitting the blues clues in SoCal. I had the good fortune to catch William's band at the Mint one night. Great stuff. I also freqeunted Lamar's and caught a couple of in-store performances by Rick Holstrom, Henry Carvajal, and Kid Ramos. Man I miss that west coast blues sound!
is lamarr's still there, used to go there when i worked in L.B., he introduced me to william clarke, i also met rod piazza and charlie musslewhite. keepin' the blues alive!
I sorry to say Lamar's is no longer. He moved his shop from N.Long Beach to the Cal Heights area in L.B.That locallasted a few years untill its ultimate demise. His shops were as much a blues museum and showcase as they were cool record shops. These little"reciteles" were very influental. In this clip you see in the audience "Little Henry" Carvajal before he played with Clarke and years before Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers.Lamar is now a mosaic artist and a Bon vivant......
Not sure what happened to Gill and Mary Ann.. I used to go by the shop everytime I was in Long Beach on biz... James Harman does not know what happened to them either. If you ever find out please post here.
A Saturday at Lamars'Blues Records. The great William Clarke with Rick Holmes and Zack Zunis on guitars. I had the good fortune to have seen Clarke many many times with a lot of great musicians. These performances were special.Thank you BLUESWEDE for posting.Thank You Lamar and Mary Ann for the great record shop you had and those Great gigs on those memorable Saturday afternoons I Remember Clarke the best at these pesentations.
I never got to see WC but i played with Zach Zunis at a party in 04 and he blew my mind, man what a cool cat...!Try finding guitarists like him in the UK...Rare as hens teeth...
Great stuff! Wonderful to be able to see the great one in action. This looks much better on the DVD, available from the family on E-bay...do support them and keep William's legacy going.
I was so lucky to be there that day. The good ole days. Bill did jam.

I think there is no man on earth who has ever reached his sound. Charlie Musselwhite sucks the big one.

Gil & Mary Ann are doing fine. Lamars' Records closed due to large co. competition.
They are still living in Long Beach. Look him up as Gil Duarte.
