@BAHAIRULES curse of the tkd fighter. it's all about counter fighting, so you'll notice they stay at long range, and constantly move backwards, looking for an opening. it's not like tkd kicks are ineffective in the ring, the method of the fighters are. andy hug used a lot of classic tkd kicks but he knew how to move forward. if yilmaz could move forward after his assaults instead of back to centre ring, he'd have been so much more effective, and his career would have lasted longer.

Both serkan and masato allowed low kick a lot. Allowing low kick is bad habit. Many martial artists practice breaking. They break almost everything. Legs can be broken by their low kick. That's why allowing low kick is bad habit. They should avoid low kick always by stepping back.
First round Serkan won. Second round Masato won. Third round was draw. Masato gave a lot of low kicks. His low kicks looked more effective because of Serkan's avoiding action. Serkan also returned a lot of low kicks to keep his points. Totally Serkan showed better fighting skills.

And you have a lot of idiots who can't get it into their thick skulls that blocked strikes score no points, so that Yilmaz may have done all sorts of fancy crap, but it simply doesn't influence the score because Masato's blocking was excellent. They only see the violence, not the skill that goes on behind it.

Yilmaz is a really impressive stylist, but the commentator (is this Schiavello?) is right, he should've focused more on wearing Masato down, and he needs better hands. There were plenty of opportunities where he could've countered Masato on one of those leg kicks with a heavy cross, and he was too worried about finding a crazy knockout kick. He could learn from Buakway--wear Masato down with low kicks, and throw in a few high ones to surprise him. That's the way to beat 'im.
Good fight. I respect the turkish fighter for a good fight, but Masato had a better defensive AND offensive plan. This is a textbook win, where one fighter clearly dominated the other.

Very close fight! There is no argument in that But masato did land more shots and was a bit more effective. Bravo to serkan an amazing fighter and person and he was certainly a handfull for the silver wolf! If anything they should have done an extra round for draw.

You guys thinking that Serkan should've won probably don't know much about ring fighting. You just sit at your computer and comment about things you know nothing about. If you watched Serkan in most of his fights. This guy is a genius he throws pin point spinning back kicks and a shit load of kicks to the head. Masatos Leg kicks were devastating causing Serkan to only throw a total of 5 kicks above the chest something Serkan rarely does. Im not a Masato fan but he clearly won.

For all of the people out there, I watched the first round Masato was feeling Yilmaz out and vice versa. The second round towards the end Masato was literally just teeing off on him with 2-3 kicks 1-2 unblocked and unansweredat a time. The second and third round were clearly Masato's. The whole Yilmaz is a knockout fighter and Masato is a points fighter are really ridicolous. If this would have been given 3 more round Yilmaz would have definitately gone down in the 5th due to leg submission.

I enjoy watching Serkan, and actually, I've never seen Masato before viewing this video. But Masato obviously had a better tactic than Serkan. He went for his legs and threw good combinations, while Serkan is only good at a middle-long distance because he needs a lot of space in order to fire off those devastating kicks.
Serkan is a k.o. fighter, and Masato is more like a point fighter. MAsato scored the most points, and thus he won. If Serkan had knocked Masato out, sure, he'd won. But he didn't.

The problem with spinning back kicks is timing. Get it wrong and you may not only miss, but also find the other guy standing in front of you when you're just done spinning around, ready to take a most painfull advantage of you being off guard. ^.^
Timing is also crucial in that counterattack though. You're moving along with the opponents back as he turns, catching him as soon as he faces you again, attacking too early would be an illegal attack from behind, and may get you a point deduction.

Your favoritism does not factor into the scoring of a fight. Masato was far more aggressive, had better ring control, and was landing more scoring strikes. Yilmaz lost that because of his inactivity and timidness to throw anything more than a spinning kick.

masato is the defending champion however there are some rules called "the village decision" or the "ground rules "...some rules dictates that if taking down a champion it must be a "knock out" not just in points ....so this is why yilmaz is looking for his one down kick or punch to knock masato down....which he failed ..

You, like many others who comment on this thread clearly know NOTHING about Kickboxing. Masato clearly out pointed Yilmaz in this fight, in fact had it gone 2 more rounds I don't think Yilmaz will be able to stand up anymore. Serkan only landed maybe 2 clean spinning thrust kicks...and a handful of leg kicks at best, that is all. Masato landed numerous clean punches, and leg kicks and outworked Yilmaz, as well as doing more damage and had ring control. Nuff' said...
If he was, he'd be a K-1 MAX champion. Serkan Yilmaz is cool, but he's a B class fighter at best. Masato, Buakaw, Andy Souwer, Albert Kraus, Artur Kyshenko, Yoshihiro Sato are the top dogs in K-1 MAX. He would lose to ALL of them 99 times out of 100.
One of the best matches I have ever seen in mine whole life. Yilmaz was very desperate for a spectacular knockout, but he did not manage to fulfil it, in the meantime however, Masato was able to collect just a few more points than Yilmaz.. Despite the result, I liked Yilmaz's performance better because his style is amazing and even in the last few minutes he was ready to knock Masato out.
I like your post...but I think if the fight had gone on longer Masato would have TKO'd Yilmaz via leg kicks. His leg was damaged, and buckling after each shot...it affected his mobility and his ability to plant down on his punches and kicks. Anyway, just my opinion. Those spinning kicks are very nice to watch, but you won't land them against a fighter the calibre of Masato.
The know-nothing clowns who hated on Masato for years and cried and whined that he's "protected" also tried to claim Yilmaz won this fight. What a load of bull. Masato controlled the fight and turned Yilmaz's leg into grape juice. I can't even begin to imagine how badly today's Masato would have annihilated Serkan if they fought now.
Serkan Yilmaz would probably also lose against Buakaw, Arthur and Souwer but hes still the best TKD fighter ive seen in the K-1 ring. He looks more like an acomplished fighter.

You guys thinking that Serkan should've won probably don't know much about ring fighting. You just sit at your computer and comment about things you know nothing about. If you watched Serkan in most of his fights. This guy is a genius he throws pin point spinning back kicks and a shit load of kicks to the head. Masatos Leg kicks were devastating causing Serkan to only throw a total of 5 kicks above the chest something Serkan rarely does. Im not a Masato fan but he clearly won.

For all of the people out there, I watched the first round Masato was feeling Yilmaz out and vice versa. The second round towards the end Masato was literally just teeing off on him with 2-3 kicks 1-2 unblocked and unansweredat a time. The second and third round were clearly Masato's. The whole Yilmaz is a knockout fighter and Masato is a points fighter are really ridicolous. If this would have been given 3 more round Yilmaz would have definitately gone down in the 5th due to leg submission.

If you have to, in order to make yourselves happy, count the number of punches and kicks landed by each of them. I assure you that Masato landed far more punches and kicks.
Masato was more active and more accurate.
All Yilmaz did was throw more fancy kicks (which did not land).

I enjoy watching Serkan, and actually, I've never seen Masato before viewing this video. But Masato obviously had a better tactic than Serkan. He went for his legs and threw good combinations, while Serkan is only good at a middle-long distance because he needs a lot of space in order to fire off those devastating kicks.

Serkan is a k.o. fighter, and Masato is more like a point fighter. MAsato scored the most points, and thus he won. If Serkan had knocked Masato out, sure, he'd won. But he didn't.

Almost all of the spinning back kicks landed, on MASATO's arms! Plus, Yilmaz's kicks were robbed of speed and power by MASATO's crippling leg kicks.
All of the reverse roundhouse kicks missed and Yilmaz was outboxed.

The kick at 0.40 landed on the arms and pushed MASATO backwards (off balance).
At 3.46 MASATO fell over, nothing more. His feet were very close together when Yilmaz rushed him.
A knockdown incurs an 8 count...

The problem with spinning back kicks is timing. Get it wrong and you may not only miss, but also find the other guy standing in front of you when you're just done spinning around, ready to take a most painfull advantage of you being off guard. ^.^
Timing is also crucial in that counterattack though. You're moving along with the opponents back as he turns, catching him as soon as he faces you again, attacking too early would be an illegal attack from behind, and may get you a point deduction.

Yilmaz is good. Really good for a boxer but not great.
He knows to block with his forearms but he doesnt do it alot.
He reacts but no action.
But, Serkan is actually faster than Masato and with that speed he can generate power.

Your favoritism does not factor into the scoring of a fight. Masato was far more aggressive, had better ring control, and was landing more scoring strikes. Yilmaz lost that because of his inactivity and timidness to throw anything more than a spinning kick.

masato is the defending champion however there are some rules called "the village decision" or the "ground rules "...some rules dictates that if taking down a champion it must be a "knock out" not just in points ....so this is why yilmaz is looking for his one down kick or punch to knock masato down....which he failed ..

You, like many others who comment on this thread clearly know NOTHING about Kickboxing. Masato clearly out pointed Yilmaz in this fight, in fact had it gone 2 more rounds I don't think Yilmaz will be able to stand up anymore. Serkan only landed maybe 2 clean spinning thrust kicks...and a handful of leg kicks at best, that is all. Masato landed numerous clean punches, and leg kicks and outworked Yilmaz, as well as doing more damage and had ring control. Nuff' said...

If he was, he'd be a K-1 MAX champion. Serkan Yilmaz is cool, but he's a B class fighter at best. Masato, Buakaw, Andy Souwer, Albert Kraus, Artur Kyshenko, Yoshihiro Sato are the top dogs in K-1 MAX. He would lose to ALL of them 99 times out of 100.

One of the best matches I have ever seen in mine whole life. Yilmaz was very desperate for a spectacular knockout, but he did not manage to fulfil it, in the meantime however, Masato was able to collect just a few more points than Yilmaz.. Despite the result, I liked Yilmaz's performance better because his style is amazing and even in the last few minutes he was ready to knock Masato out.

I like your post...but I think if the fight had gone on longer Masato would have TKO'd Yilmaz via leg kicks. His leg was damaged, and buckling after each shot...it affected his mobility and his ability to plant down on his punches and kicks. Anyway, just my opinion. Those spinning kicks are very nice to watch, but you won't land them against a fighter the calibre of Masato.

Masato controlled the fight and turned Yilmaz's leg into grape juice. I can't even begin to imagine how badly today's Masato would have annihilated Serkan if they fought now.

Serkan Yilmaz would probably also lose against Buakaw, Arthur and Souwer but hes still the best TKD fighter ive seen in the K-1 ring. He looks more like an acomplished fighter.
