shanewhite all thies salmon would die afta spwaning. thay swim about 200+ks up river then thou a lake and up thies we streams. thay dont feed from the time thay climatize in the river mouths / just out side the mouths in the fresh water.
our goverment need to invest in keeping the populatishion up. we need to be putting like 1000000 fish i nthe rivers each year for about 5 years to re stock them. not many now days maby 1500-2000 returning up each year.
There is a place in scotland 5 miles from me where this happens, after they spawn they die but before they die i catch them with speargun and eat them, my family, friends and i are all salmon lovers. We never take the ones that are still full of eggs and we know when they are about to die.
mate not all atlantic salmon die after spawning? and apparently they taste horrible after spawning? did u not just confess to poaching just there? salmon stocks are low and critical enough, id recommend u put the speargun away? no offense of course

@jermdal Thanks mate-the river is the famed Rakaia near Ashburton, South Island, New Zealand. Stunning scenery and even better fishing :-)
