eh mto estranho pensar q ele deve ter apenas 30 e poucos anos uns 20 de carreira soh 5 discos lançados e uma evolução musical dessas... eh logico q eu prefiro as antigas mas as novas são mto boas tbm.
i know diorama was written right after he was really sick~ he developed all these phobias, basically became a recluse and then was hospitalized for some kind of degenerative arthritis, so i think Diorama is pretty much a summary of those experiences. It's also where you notice the shift toward the sounds that is much more like what he was doing with The Dissociatives. This is especially evident on Young Modern.
holy shit. that dude went from the frogstomp vocals to THIS?! he was impressive as little boy - but now......songwriting....guitar playing......vocals.........that stuff here is STELLAR!
great vocal performance..... see i like how they progressed. love neon ballroom and diorama.... but young modern i just cant get into... no matter how much i try. its just too pop and not rock enough.... i think daniels vocals much better with this type of sound.... they need more guitar in their albums instead of doing wierd shit with pedals and keyboards
@AceGuitarR7 Give a chance to YM, mate. I didn't like it in the beginning too, but now is one of my favourites, along with Diorama. Low has a great guitar work, as well Those Thieving Birds. And another songs like Reflections Of A Sound and If You Keep Losing Sleep show the genious that Daniel is in any kind of music, with awesome vocals, the wonderful keyboards and the fantastic tempo of the songs *--* Just like the break in 3:03 here in The Greatest View... It's magnifique.
im watchin u watch over me, and i got the greatest view from here... love this song so much, daniel johns is absolutely super rockin hot! definitely one of my all time favorite!
It's weird I'm listening to this and i just found fungus in MY Milk!.. guess thats what happens when your 30 and still breast feeding from your mothers teat ... Rock on SilverChair!
@thierrytu The song is about Natalie & his doctors watchting over him and how he was watching what they were doing. At least from what I've been able to gather.
@torycicciari I suppose that makes more sense. I've always found it odd that they said that. I thought the song was written before he got the arthritis... Thanks for the correction.
If you guys think that this is all crap, then why did you came here exactly? If you don't like them, so what? For all I care... They're worth my applause anyway...
I think rating their albums depends on what you like. Most American fans are going to think Frogstomp was the best, and the albums have gotten progressively worse. Australian and European fans are more open to experimental stuff, and are going to think Silverchairs albums have gotten better. Though I hate to say it, a good litmus test has always been record sales. Their music is more creative now, but not better. A sculptor can mold shit into a million different shapes... but its still shit!
Honestly... why can't people on youtube learn to share their opinions without discrediting someone else's. You and I disagree... but you don't hear me saying "Their music sucks and if you can't see that, your mother should have gotten an abortion before birthing such a down syndromed abomination"... I simply state my opinion. That doesn't mean yours is any less valid, though it is definitely biased.
I'm 25 now. I began drums and trumpet at 12, began guitar and bass about a year later, began piano at 16, began mandolin and dulcimer about 3 years ago, and have maintained all instruments over the years. I've also slaved away at recording as well. Unexpected key changes and open minor tunings do not great music make. As any guitarist whose piddled with their tabs, and they will tell you, YM is no more in depth or colorful as the solo to "Tomorrow" or "Petrol & Chlorine".
yea I think It will sardoniclysane...it has for me..now I can't get enough of it..Those Thieving Birds, Low, and Reflections of a Sound especially..and a tip: listen to them live-much better in my opinion and check out any that you can unplugged..excellent!
He's still got the voice... The problem i see is his catch for breath... I think that's the major change in his voice... He finds difficulty in catching his breath in the upbeats (like the chorus)... He just runs out of long supportive breath and does falsetto... Falsetto is something that you do when you need to cheat and not crack...
I still love him though... I always will because i'm inlove with him... wahaha... i love you daniel johns!!!
... I don't think you know what you're talking about. If it's breathing, then it's probably drug related. I don't really think so, this song is just really hard to sing, it pushes his range like Straight Lines.
I'm not saying i know everything but i definitely know what i'm trying to explain and talk about... Yes, it's a hard song to sing... But he never did falsetto all throughout the chorus of the song when he was younger (or when the album actually came out)...
Falsetto is certainly what he does now... You gotta notice that... Thanks for your reply anyway...
Daniel says he doesn;t consider the first tewo albums real chair albums because they were writing what the label wanted, so that's why he won't perform the old songs. not because of his voice, which was damaged badly from heavy pot smoking which he has ended.....over the last 3 years his voice has improved greatly. the older albums he said he was trying to sound like vedder, so he won;t sing that way anymore even though he can
well, I don't think so, the record label didn't push him to write what he wrote for the first two albums, cause (almost?) all the songs on their first album had been written before they were signed and I even don't think that's the case with Freak Show
my understanding is that they felt great pressure from their record label while recording Diorama
he probably sees it differently nowadays, the actual reason might be that he feels that on F+FS they still hadn't found their original sound
Neon Ballroom, Diorama and Young Modern were all incredible albums...Frogstomp and Freak Show, not show much, but they were just kids, that was to be expected...
As age advances, the voice lowers in terms of pitch and tone as we witness with Daniel. So, we cant expect him to sing those good old heavy songs. But still, the integrity of Silverchair sound is still undeniably there and evolving better.
To the guys who thinks Daniel has lost his voice, have to disagree. This is a huge concert that lasts almost 2 hours. Imagine trying to sing your heart out for that long, it's a simply case of exhaustion and it is even a miracle that Daniel's voice didn't crack even once for this whole night. I love Silverchair forever
It's such a shame he has to do that now. His voice has aged badly for the songs he has written in years gone by. Compare this with his singing in vids 6 years ago at the Big Day Out, namely Miss you love and The Door. He still has an outstanding voice but dont expect to hear songs like Across the Night live again...
I wish they would still play songs like Spawn Again and Cemetery... but then with this voice i think Daniel has some good reasons for not playing them now
