I am a student of the district, and I am embarrassed of this video. Mostly for Olson, because of the way she purposefully brought conflict to this meeting. I know of the problems she has brought to these meetings in the past, and her threats to tell the press are only making the other board members more frustrated. She acts like a child who didn't get its way. Act like an adult and talk out your issues as you should. Be mature, and be the example that we as kids expect. Good for the rest of them
I am a parent in the Everett School district. Today was the first I heard of this via an email from Mr. Peterson himself. In it, he informed us all that Ms. Olson, ALONE, will be censored by the board- even though she was the one accosted by two members of the board- Peterson being the worst- as he proceeded to go behind her and gave her a violent bear hug to force her to release the report she was holding. Another member, Dutton, pried her fingers from the report while Olson was restrained!
Jessica you are just a nut job. And all of your "supporter" conspiracy theorists coming out of the woodwork are the same people who think Elvis is still alive. Good god. YOU are the only non-rational individual on that board of upstanding people. Go back to your looney bin.
The guy trying to break the camera only has one year left.... they're only aloud to stay on for 6 years, and no doubt he is voting on someone who is'nt there to defend themselves. Good for Jessica
Bringing a camera to a meeting is certainly going to instigate a negative reaction. Particularly if you are in the minority and it appears the others have banded together against you.
So there had to be some expectation of a confrontation.
It doesnt help to fuel the agitated man by stating what is obvious (something along the lines of "you cant turn off my camera") in such a firm manner.
Regardless she did want she felt was right and should be commended for standing against united wrong.
These guys are SUSPECT. Any time a person resorts to PHYSICAL FORCE to prevent someone from recording their behavior, I assume that person is doing something morally repugnant/illegal. The behavior of these three board members warrants METICULOUS SCRUTINY.
Furthermore, anyone who opposes transparency CAN'T BE TRUSTED. I feel it's safe to assume that anyone that prevents/discourages, through legislation or intimidation, the recording of officials performing their governmental duties, IS CORRUPT.
You have to understand, it is hard for Olson because she is isolated on the board, everybody agrees with each other but not with her. She's got some good ideas, making school meetings more public and all. If the other four were willing to listen to her instead, instead of knocking down her opinions just because she's in the minority, she'd probably be less combative.
This happens when you catch people doing something wrong...and they know it! Grabbing her camera only proves how power hungry this group is.
This same scenario has played out countless times where Trustees or Committee members get too chummy with each other and forget the boundaries. In steps a newby with a moral compass...and watch out!
I bet the reason she felt compelled to video tape the meeting was because she had exhausted all other rational attempts to get this group back on the path.
It's clear that Jessica turned the camera on because they were trying to discuss NON executive session material IN executive session and instead of just discussion THAT, this man has to try to snatch the camera and then assault her? Ed Peterson, you should be ashamed of yourself, overpowering a woman - what kind of example are you setting for our children? You lost control of yourself, the ONLY appropriate thing to do now is to issue an apology, acknowledge your loss of control and step down!
