Isn't Iakovos Kolanian a greek guitarist??? Maybe he has armenian roots... But I always thought he was French, because of the surname...Please, somebody tell me the correct thing!
Iakovos Kolanian was born in Greece to an Armenian father and a Greek mother. His first solo album in 1989 with transcriptions of Armenian music led to tours in England, France, Italy, Austria etc. In addition to his career as a soloist and recording artist, Iakovos Kolanian has been the head of the Classical Guitar Department at the Contemporary Athens Conservatory since 1992, and is an honorary professor at the Armenian Academy in Yerevan
Thank you for the clarifications; it is always interesting to learn such details about great performers who are virtually unknown in certain parts of the world. I understand the peoples' dilemma: his patronymic is clearly Armenian while his given name is clearly Greek; but of course, none of them sounds too French :-)...
very nice performance with nice feelings. thank you for the video.

The arrangement and performance of this authentic piece is first ever at many levels.
Never Gomidas or Armenian folk music has been arranged, played and elevated at masters level as Kolanian presents here.
Like to hear/see more pieces. Bravo Kolanian!!!
