I think kelso made the right call. He gave away one life, and safed a lot more. And still, if he had choosen the poor guy, the rich dude would still die, and he us a human life too, right?
I know that everybody gives Kelso such a bad rep, but he's doing what's best for the hospital. He has to be the bad guy because if he wasn't the entire hospital would go down in ruins. Sure he can be a bit mean and sassy, but Cox is even worse. He's not that bad, he just has to be the bad cop.
cox's logic is ridiculous. either way one person wouldn't be in the drug trial, so why not give it to the guy with more money for the prenatal unit? if he put mr. morrison in and it didnt work they wouldn't have saved a patient and not be able to open the prenatal unit. even if the rich guy dies, they can still open the prenatal unit
@marissawtts and @Pleasetwinsme you both truly underestimate how much Cox cares (you'll see in the later seasons if you haven't seen them yet) the reason why Cox gives Kelso such a bad time is because of what he said to him, which was that it doesn't even look like Kelso cares. I'm pretty sure Cox gets why Kelso does what he does, but the reason why it gets under his skin so much is because Kelso is so cold about it. By showing he doesn't care for the patients it kinda ruins it's validity.
@Barricade2091 thats kelso's way of coping! can you imagine having to make those decisions? to have to give someone a death sentence no matter which option you choose? he seems so cold because he has to make those decisions all the time, that he cant let those decisions or the people around him see how scared and sad he is
@marissawtts which is very true, I understand that, it's just that's why Cox gives kelso a hard time. See it from Cox's point of view he doesn't know that Kelso cares, all he sees is a guy that wants only money and would do anything to get it, I bet you that Cox does understand the reason behind his choices it's just that Kelso never really showed that it bothered him at all. Remember what Lavern said? after half a dozen children died he acted like he didn't care. It's hard to believe he cares
@Barricade2091 Hit the nail on the head bro. Kelso does hate to make those decisions but he has to do what's best for the hospital. The thing that bothers Cox the most is that he doesn't show it bothers him though, that's the key. @marissawtts You may say that Kelso has to act cold to cope but the end completely contradicts that. He does so because he's too proud to show that he isn't as strong as he appears to be. Just like all of the other characters had their pride moments.
@marissawtts Cox but tbh I always liked both characters because in the end they both shared a mutual respect for one another and had insight on the situation each person was going through (Kelso making rash and unpopular decisions and Cox who always made sure to hassle him for making heartless decisions)
@Barricade2091 yea and i liked how in the 8th season it switched and it was like jd was the new cox and cox was the new kelso but i always liked cox and kelso together, when they're friends especially
@marissawtts True I just finished season 8 today (5th time I watched all the scrubs episodes :D) I honestly love how Kelso seemed so mean before but in those seasons he was so nice it was almost like a different person, I especially agree with Cox and Kelso being friends is awesome. I couldn't get over how JD got so jealous XD
@Barricade2091 ik, i love kelso in the end of season 8 and season 9. and i agree, i love jd's jealousy. especially when kelso said that he and cox went to see a romantic comedy and jd started screaming
@marissawtts lmao I love how Cox was trying to deny it in front of Carla and Kelso's like "we're like brothers! i'm not hiding it anymore!" haha, and yeah I couldn't get over that part XD
@Barricade2091 Well they had always hinted Kelso was a nice guy who just had a terrible job and I was glad in season 8 we got to see who Kelso really was.
I think what Kelso did was right. I'm surprised they showed Cox incapable of judging that. That patient would have had slim hopes of survival being on a randomized drug trial anyway. Then why not have the mobile prenatal clinic instead? The trial wasn't definitive treatment for either patient.
@eddoubledeezy Kelso was always human, he was just one of those characters that you had to REALLY think about. If we wondered what it would be like having to make the hard decisions for 25 years, his personality archetype is almost perfect. He had to get used to everyone hating his decisions and coping with the decisions that chose who lives and who dies. He is by fair the deepest character on the show, and the ending to this episode was glorious.
Scrubs is probably one of the best series in the whole fucking world. At first i though scrub only was comedy, but it got allot of emotional scenes too, amazing!
Am I the only one who found the Jiggly Ball punishment to be a bit... harsh?
I mean, there have been some rather harsh moments, like the time JD was hung up like a flag, but that was so silly and all it involved was him waiting. This just seemed... brutal, just for being a bit prideful. As this episode proves, JD's not the only one who has that flaw, and being pummeled half to death just seems way too far for that.
@HeyShayMay Well JD brought it all on himself when he stuck that penny in the door, if he didn't do that none of that would have ever happened to him lol.
@darthnowlan So getting pummeled half to death is an acceptable response to accidentally sticking a penny in a door?
I know, I know, it's a comedy and it's not supposed to be fair, etc. but if my friends did that to me because I was being a bit prideful, I would really reconsider who my friends are.
@HeyShayMay He wasn't pummeled half to death. And the Janitor does it too JD because he was being a douche to Laverne (black nurse) earlier on in the episode.
Fortunately JD can take a joke and isn't a stuck up little bitch like HeyShayMay.
@jpT1213 ...Was that last part really necessary? The funny thing is, I'd actually consider the first part of your comment a pretty good point, JD was being a douche, and it does go some way to balancing the scales, in my eyes. I still think it's a bit harsh, but not quite so much, now that you've mentioned that.
Anyway, it was just my take on the episode. Scrubs is still brill, and I'm sorry if I offended you by not liking a 45-second scene. Peace.
Props to Ken Jenkins. Kelso is an incredibly complex character. He goes from evil to goofy to serious, and in episodes like these, we get to see the nuances of his personality acted out to perfection. One of the best supporting roles in television. Bravo, Mr. Jenkins.

@killa2000dec Because that would be the smart thing to do, and wouldn't fit in with the writing of that particular episode. He tried to pull it out because it was the idiotic thing to do lol =P
@kibahina55 The reason they named this episode "My Jigglyball" is because the Jigglyball stands for how proud he was, and how he didn't want to admit he didn't know what it was. Almost every Scrubs episode's title has a double meaning you kind of have to think about for a second.
Aw Bob!... So you are human after all. Its great how Scrubs throws in episodes which show its more hardass characters in a different, more human, light. You never see Bob the same way again after this episode and you never see Perry Cox the same way after "My Lunch". Of course in both cases, especially Perry's, there had been hints of humanity under the shell, but still those episodes really showed it to you in a whole new way. R>I>P> Scrubs, you were really something.
@kibahina55: actually it is. "jiggly ball" stands for his pride, because he was too proud to admit he didn't know it.. i thinks it's knida clever to name this episode like that.

Bob Kelso always has to put a brave face on everything he does, since he's the boss.
Like all bosses, they do things they don't necessarily want to do, maybe they have to do it for the company, sometimes to help others.
That's the problem of being the boss of something.

if JD dropped a coin in the jar, why didn't he just turn it upside down and let the coin fall out?

I would have named this episode 'My Pride'.

@kibahina55 I agree

@kibahina55: actually it is. "jiggly ball" stands for his pride, because he was too proud to admit he didn't know it.. i thinks it's knida clever to name this episode like that.
