  • @boguskimura it's "heavens not a place that you go when you die, it's that moment in life when you actually feel alive" :3

  • Okay yea that does make me wanna cry...

  • heavens not a place you go when you die everytime i hear this song i break down and cry

  • i love songs that make me feel...

  • My tattoo's got some of the lyrics of this song :)

  • @TheYoursstrulyyy Let me guess which lyrics you got tattooed on yourself.

If you're a fat chick, then I'd guess:

"Love is just a hoax so forget anything that you have heard."

If you're more-so Reese Witherspoon size, then I'd guess:

"Heaven's not a place that you go when you die

It's that moment in life when you actually feel alive."

You owe me your YT account if I'm right.

  • this is the only song i know by them but its so good! really connects with the heart

  • Everytime I sing this song, it tears at me and I can't help but cry a little..<3

  • this song is amazing

  • i know what they mean!!! =)

  • thought the kids name was 'Dave' for the longest time. -.-

  • i like vagina

  • Heaven doesn't exist.

  • taylor&i sing and play this together <3 so beautiful!

  • So far, this is by far my favorite song by The Spill Canvas. I love this song, what can I say?

  • My guy friend was singing this to me today, and playing it on his guitar.

    It's such a touching song.

  • Goosebumbs!

  • hey kiyoko xD

  • @3mpir Rlly xP

  • this reminded me of my life

  • wow this song is so beautiful, sad, and deep. Really starting to love this band even more. :) ♥

  • This song put tears in my eyes. Just gorgeous...

  • This song is so beautiful. I can't stop crying. *Sobs*

  • good song.. i love how he says "dade" lol, so dreamy

  • This song is really deep. :P

  • Oh gavin...

  • im teaching myself this song on the guitar as we speek i want to play it for my wife, I think she will love it. We both love Spill Canvas. The first time she really heard me play guitar and sing, I played "The Dutch Courage". Now thats one of our songs, along with "So Much" She makes this ugly, nasty world beautiful and I would get swept into the ocean(like the 3 kids) without her.

  • I want to cover this song.

But, I don't know how to play guitar. grrrr

  • What really gets me about this song is that it sounds like the singer starts crying near the end.

  • @morgan1159307

wow you are soo right i never thought of it this way...

  • @morgan1159307 You try singing this song without crying..

  • The 'three' represent the different things affecting the 'mothers' relationship. Veronica is the side of passion and romance, Vada the side of jealousy and innocence and Dade is the hidden fears. As the three grow up, it symbolises the relationship coming to an end, the tide sweeping in and taking the three symbolises the end of the relationship, and the idea of the mother being bed-ridden by her ex-lover is showing the effect that all of this has had on her. :)

  • The song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

  • @ XxXxCOOKXxXx So deep man ;)

  • Love this song<3

  • Love this song<3

  • ... Theres a deeper meaning inside his words in this song, The Tide is a metaphor for love, so the three children didn't actually die, they ran away with people they fell in love with because their mother didn't believe in love because of their father who left her(which in the video happens after the second set of lyrics but most likely in the words happened near when the children were born.)

  • @anonymous2178 Well, it's nice to see how you interpret it. However, everyone may interpret it differently, to someone else it could be literal, to someone else it could be your view of it, and then XxXxCOOKXxXx gave another example of how it could be looked at. Nevertheless, it's an amazing, beautiful, indescribable song. To me it's sad.

  • damn me and my friend veronica sing this all the time word for word because this song is so awesome:D I LOVE IT :D

  • Breath taking.

  • It's for sure Dade.

  • "The violin at this part is so friggin awesome..." lol

  • I thought it was Dave, not Dade.

  • i can't believe i just cried to this song, im not one to cry.

  • 9 people are have never been in love..

  • I'm determined to learn this song on guitar

  • this was played at my ex boyfriend's funeral... i believe there is a heaven, but not what is perceived in what we all hear. my idea of heaven is kind of like "my own world" if you get what i mean. this song is absolutely beautiful... RIP jeremy<3

  • I'm going to get so much hate for this comment, but I first heard this song driving through the west with two of my friends and we couldn't stop laughing. I've never been happier.

  • this sonq is so beautiful. i've never actually listened to it all the way throuqh and i read the comments as it was playinq. How it qives you the chills... Its true. Theres always a twist to the most beautiful things in life. Especially life itself.

  • I believe in heaven after death, still a sad song though. If it's true love, *TRUE* love then it doesn't end, that's what I believe.

  • i just started listening to them and i love there sound! its so prettyy

  • amazingly depressing song, still an awesome song though

  • Heard this song for the 1st time while i was on acid.... needless to say, twas a beautiful song. Easily a new fave <3

  • such a masterpiece, seriously, if there was a hall of fame for songs, this would be damn near #1

  • 5:30 you got a lyric wrong. Its "...when you touch your edge* and you feel alive." Just sayin. :P

  • actually im pretty sure its right but okay

  • this madde me extremely sad:(

  • i hope it's okay that i'm raping the play button.<3

  • this song STILL gives me chills. I love how all of their songs tell a story :)

  • God thats like orgasmic :)

  • i never thought i'd cry on a song..

well, they do say there's a first for everything, right?<3

  • this makes me feel like its happening to me this is a copy of my life

  • never thought i'd actually cry at a song.

but this one got to me..♡

  • hey guys iv been listening and falling inlove with this song ever since iv heard it. but theres something i always wanted to know from his lyrics to this song. at first he/ the mother says "Love is just a hoax so forget everything that you have heard", but at the end of the song he/mother says "Love's completely real, so forget anything that you've heard". like why the change all of a sudden. dosent he contradict himself?

  • @wallywaleed If you pay attention she is telling her kids that love is a hoax because she gets hurt by it all the time and she gets dumped by her husband and, due to neglect, the kids end up dying from getting swept away from the tide. Upon finding out about this the mother realizes what real love is (her love for her children) and figures out her love for them was real, but it was to late. =] hope that helped

  • @EyKntSpel Actually, no. The mother never noticed or paid any attention... She didn't even notice they were gone. It's the band's message at the end, not hers.

  • @EyKntSpel Like, you know, what they want to tell the kids but they never got to hear because their mom didn't take care of them or support them or tell them the right thing. They show the mom in the music vid because that's what the director wanted to do.

  • @wallywaleed Because she loved her children and when they were gone she didn't need a relationship she wanted her children :)

  • This song is so amazing... just HAVE to say that. :') I have a little game for people who like this song, and the game of SNAKE!

    1. Pause at 0:00

    2. Press the left arrow key, then the up arrow key at the same time.

3.Click the left and up arrow at the same time.

Thumbs up so others can enjoy :P

  • sad song sucks , makes me think about her ....

  • I never listened to this band before but this one song just made me realize so much that i knew but never had words to help the thoughts surface

  • damn this song gives me a sad feeling :T

  • Comment removed

  • what a horrible song, i kinda makes me want to kick babies

  • @aron4224 gtfo get out now if you can't comprehend the power of the song GET OUT GO DIE this song is one of the most beautiful things in the world you complete faggot! you think commenting hate shit is funny? GO DIE YOU WORTHLESS CRAP!

  • @NekoVVlove Please remove your comment, I understand what you are saying I really do, but please for everyone sakes remove it. Let him be misunderstood.

  • this songs means more to me than any other. it changed my life completely and my view on everything. it set me free. it helped me to live in the moment. the story is beautiful, the metaphors are perfect, and the chorus IS life. the children never living past the age of 15 is a metaphor. when their mother gave up, they did, too. they stopped living and started existing....

  • they should make a movie based on this song, it would be epic as f***

  • Touch your edge and you feel alive**** not touch her. good job on the lyrics though :)

  • @UzedChemicalzz haha. it's touch her.

  • I adore this song... I always thinks the kids as the emotions of a typical human Veronica is the Side of us that longs to be loved and find a meaning in life. Vada the side that is jealousy that makes us fight for what we want and the part of use that feels inferiour. Dade is the little kid in us that will never die no matter how much we grow up and how old we get and the philosophical side us all trying to understand this world.

  • @XxXxCOOKXxXx thats an interesting interpratation. :) i like it. and i love this song too!

  • @XxXxCOOKXxXx That's fantastic. I never thought of it that way. I sound like my english teacher, but nice inferring :)

  • @XxXxCOOKXxXx That's a good way to look at it. This song is amazing, so sad, I can't believe I never heard it before...Because of the lyrics and the mood and everything, it could possibly be one of my absolute favorite songs. Not just sad in a literal way-because, it could be interpreted many ways, it doesn't necessarily have to mean literally a tide-but it could also have a variety of deep meanings.

  • @XxXxCOOKXxXx then the mother would be included into that too, right?

  • That last part always gives me shivers and ive listened to this song over 1000 times

  • I think everyone can recognize themselves in this song. That's why I love the spill canvas, they sing about real things, about things people really are facing.

  • got chills <3

  • i sing my northern heart out EVERY time i listoin to this song! i absolutly love it!

  • This Song Is My Life. Like this if you love this song. HATERS~ Kay so whatever. Dont listen to the song if you dont like it.

  • @Iamnotbeautiful13 they were consumed by negative thoughts and negative feelings toward lovee.

  • @fedupwithusernames Its the Artists way of saying they went away. Srsly -.-

  • @fedupwithusernames lol, fail.

  • @Iamnotbeautiful13 They got swept into the ocean

  • Their mother was wrong. What she didn't realize and that should have was that love was right there -- not with her stupid ex-lover but with her children.

  • i love this sond so sad i can relate to it

  • TOUCH HER

    who's her...?

  • @Mistthecat83

her who be the love that exsits...the end of the song is saying the mothers advice was wrong or useless saying love is real

  • This is the saddest song I have ever heard...

  • very true song ,, forget what ever you hear about love..it is a fucking lie

  • i didn't think the ocean symbolized emotions but it's a better outcome than my assumption that they'd committed suicide and drown in the ocean they'd grown up next to due to their mothers disbelief in love because her heart had been broken. i think really, this song can mean any number of things, as long has a deep, true, meaning getting through to you. it was written like this so more people can relate.

  • STUNNING SONG :') truly. . . :D xxxxxxx

  • lol, it's Dade.

  • I don't think it has anything really to do with unstable emotions. The ocean symbolizes society and how it corrupts the innocent minds of children. The mother tried to protect the kids from the evil that is so rampant today, but she didn't realize when their innocence was ruined. So her three were lost, but not to the ocean and death. Did you notice how in the first verse, the kids were described as being so innocent? But then they lost their innocence as society began to envelope their minds.

  • this song still gets me , its 100000000000000000000th listening 2 iyt :) <333333333 and it still makes me cry

  • Wow this song is amazing! I love the meaning in it! It made me wanna cry!!

  • This song made me cry. ._.'' lol

  • I cried soo hard when I heard this song. For many reasons!

  • I can't really describe what it is about this song that gives it such a special place in my heart. It's not like it's got some catchy chorus or amazing riff... but still it is somehow magical and heartbreaking.

the lyrics might not be Shakespeare, but they're almost in "layers", they're simple, but beneath that they've got more meaning than all of Romeo and Juliet. that combined with the amazing passion of the singer's voice, creates real music!

can you follow, or am I just going crazy here?

  • 3:08 and 3:17 and 5:06 to 5:13 D: is the saddest for me D:
