Roussel's gearing of chords is strikingly innovative. Some of the coloring in the woodwinds is quite memorable. If you can contribute the First Symphony which I seldom hear, that would be great.
Wow the music is amazing such energy and climax! I haven't even heard any of this music before but I have heard of Roussel, I really look forward when you upload some of his pieces in full:)
And I would love it to subscribe the information you added here, Daniel.
Especially the last sentence:
"His first love was the sea. He was an orphan, a sailor, husband, ambulance driver, professor, composer and one of that rare breed, a really nice guy! He is buried near his country house at Varengeville. His grave rightly overlooks the sea....."
One of my favourite French composers.....As you have noticed, his music is full of gleaming energy. I like his third symphony but his masterpiece remains "Bacchus et Ariane", in particular the second suite. I hope you will offer that work to our Youtube Friends later......
I have started doing this also, but at the moment Im concentrating on 'not well known' Russian Composers. im glad that people investigate these lost treasures.
I thankyou for posting this video, I always listening to new music!
this composer sounds great. that excerpt from the suite in f sure does have a catchy tune! very interesting video infomation. thank you for introducing me to Roussel earthatic!
I've heard this 30 years ago and now again. I'm ever more impressed, special by this performance.

Nice . . . but, still a little too "modern" for my tastes.

Not at all: it is the beginning of the first movement of the Third symphony, as correctly mentioned in the video.
