  • @iwenttoNam because your a faggot~

  • i really hate metal bands that use keyboards, besides deftones

  • @iWentToNam and rammstein?

  • Anyone that really likes prog metal should check out our project "BlackAtomReign" here on YouTube. Tons of progressive stuff and alot of positive feedback.

  • Well here we got a real progressive metal son, real good bands, congrats.

  • what's Beyond Twilight's song called? (8th)

  • why not acid rain playback in L.T.E.?

  • Only metal?

  • Is that Progressive Rock ???

Brrrr. I call it shit. Stupid distorted sounds dedicated to 12 years old kids !

Listen back to real Progressive rock bands, like Genesis, Yes, king Crimson, Jeff Beck and more...You'll see the difference.

    Friendly

  • @CCHAMPY33 All of those artists are great. Classic, influential masters. But Progressive is about experimentation and change whether it's all those you mentioned or the ones in this video. Leave it be.

  • I wonder how this shitty comment got to the top and also wonder if you can do music nearly as good as this bands to criticize it like that, I totally agree about the fact that old prog rock is awesome don´t get me wrong but as far as I concern music evolves and this not a competition. Insulting people that like new prog metal/rock bands is really stupid, I hope you can understand the half of the meaning of the music they do. Take some time to listen to this bands, You'll see the difference.

  • Lets not argue between Tool and Dream Theater being Kings of Prog or whatever. Both bands are simply amazing. Now imagine, if you will, a world tour featuring Tool and Dream Theater! :)

  • Number 1 is always Tool, anything else means you havent listened to them enough. Tool IS prog. No exceptions. They took what King Crimson invented and made it into the greatest lyrical, musical journey the world had ever known. Tool transcends music. It could be a religion.

  • @Hooktonnfonics i would call tool more psychedellic. progressive rock is more musical complexity

  • @GuerillaGorillaz If you listen to enough Tool you will in fact find the complexity. hell even if you think they are just splashed with prog elements...they are still one of the greatest bands ever. But you shouldn't. They're the real deal and should be treated as such.

  • @Hooktonnfonics dont get me wrong. i listen to tool lots and they have great songs with sweet time signatures, but their guitar is not very complex

  • @GuerillaGorillaz I'll agree completely, but if you ask a lot of guitarists now who they look up to. From 'our' generation. It's Adam Jones. He plays guitar almost like a bass. Which is perfect for Tool, because the drums and vocals are so intense, all you need is a good undertone for those to shine. He might not be complex, but Adam Jones can play what needs to played...whenever it does.

  • @GuerillaGorillaz also, prog has nothing to do w/ guitar complexity, it's about taking you through a journey with a song, it's like a musical novel. And guitar is one fourth of that novel. This is why Tool reigns supreme. They don't need any element to make them stand out. Tool is...well...tool and that's good enough for any prog fan. Seriously, listen to every album twice. I used to HATE them. now...favorite band ever, just takes time. Trust me...they ARE prog.

  • @Hooktonnfonics Progressive metal is exactly what the title says, progressive, as in the band is always moving foward and progresing their sound from what is was before. Always coming out with new ideas and ways to play music. and prog. metal USUALLY is more complex, thats actually one definition for it, PROG METAL definition - blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock.

  • @Hooktonnfonics Progressive supremacy belongs to Dream Theater.

  • @TheMadSlick No, actually it's Tool. they ARE prog. The End.

  • @Hooktonnfonics Dream Theater has been around longer, they have better songs, and they have Petrucci. Dream Theater wins.

  • @TheMadSlick Dream Theater has cheesy metal factor. Meh.

  • @Hooktonnfonics only their latest 2 albums. other than those 2 cds, dream theater is king of prog

  • @TheMadSlick there is many good prog metal bands NOW, dream theatre is ONE of the best to have ever been in this sub-genre. BUT alot of bands are moving towards prog. metal nowadays. My personal favourite is Mastodon. They were mostly sludge metal with first 2 albums REMISSION and LEVIATHAN but with their last two albums they have been moving into more prog, especially "crack the skye", which is quite possibly one of the best albums of all time, its different and thats what makes good progmetal

  • Check out CONSORTIUM the REBIRTH and 13thHOUR albums.

Or give a look on MyspaceConsortium1971to1980.

  • le recomiendo evergrey !!!!!

  • CYNIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • don't you think nevermore is more power metal?

  • WAIT! are you fucking retarded? the first song is iron maidens "for the greater good of god"! not ayreon... get your shit straight before making videos

  • @jturner123456789

No Its not, it's Ayreon. Go ask the guy with the highest rated comment. I'm sure he will be able to tell you that it's his own song!

  • Nevermore!!!!!! :D

  • Just playing devils advocate but.......... are NEvermore progressive or just good metal musicians ??

  • god mike portnoy has the gayest hair choices. a green beard?!?!

  • Ayreon!!! \m/

  • i think between the buried and me should be on this list.....im not sure if they are on the other one but they should make it on here......but great band list.

  • @thetodd246 Hell yes. Between the Buried and Me is the best prog band in modern music as far as I'm concerned.

  • @KVHelwig1337 Fuck yeah they are.

  • You should say best ten progressive metal bands.

  • joke*

  • LISTEN TO BEARDFISH!!!!

  • I don't understand why people say Nevermore is progressive... to my mind it's thrash or power, there is no element of progressive metal in their music.

  • Disillusion are very very good too!

  • Progressive bands...Fates Warning,Tool,Symphony X,Enslaved (prog-black metal),Opeth,,Into Eternity,Bigelf,Cynic,Coroner,Queensrÿche...and of course,the fucking kings are Dream Theater (all IMO)

  • These are progressive METAL bands. Don't use bad the name.

  • Well...Bigelf is more progressive rock.Anyway,a progressive band INVOLVES all the subgenre.

  • that's exactly what I was going to say.

  • Yeah, it is just IYO!..

  • @fanslayer2 Of course,it´s difficult to say the best bands, doesn´t mind the genre.

Anyway...after looking for more and more bands: each band with Arjen Lucassen or Dan Swanö has great masterpieces.

  • what about the first prog bands? yes, genesis, jethro tull, king crimson, emerson lake & palmer, focus etc.

  • And Pink Floyd.I´m more into ProgMetal,but King Crimson,Pink Floyd,Coheed and cambria,Porcupine Tree...great bands.

  • sorry, i wasn't sure whether to count Pink Floyd or Electric light Orchestra as Prog, i also forgot the nice, van der graaf generator, spock's beard

  • @theinmortal6 all of those except Coheed and Cambria.

  • Ayreon is the best progressive metal band I know

  • better yet can u post the names of all of these songs?

  • wuts the name of the first song?

  • It's called IN TO THE BLACK HOLE from the album UNIVERSAL MIGRATOR part II. it has BRUCE DICKINSON on lead vocals. It's a great song, by the way (needless to say, ARJEN is a genius...)

    sorry for my english

  • what is beyond twilight song name?

  • yeah portnoy wanted it to be an instrumental project completely separate from Dream Theater, he had even thought of recruiting Dimbebag(obviously wouldn't have been progressive with that haha no offense to him of course R,I,P,)

i'm glad it turned out how it did

  • yeah Tony Levin did Liquid Tension Experiment. JP wasn't even supposed to be in it but Portnoy couldn't find anyone else that could do it haha

  • hmmm. i never really thought of nevermore as progressive.

  • what's andromeda's song called?

  • Veil of Illumination

  • thank you very much dude

  • whats the first song called??

  • 4/5

would do 5/5 if u had written down the bands and the song names in the description..

  • Beyond Twilight - Autumn Fog Message

  • Okay, this is basically the same genre over again.

Where's Italian? Where's stuff like Anglagard or Wobbler.

    Broad your horizon!

  • Wow...that first track is really cool :-)

  • Wow, the mastermind himself!! What a great honor! =D

You definitely rock, Arjen! Good luck with The Guilt Machine!

  • Agreed with 'JohnKricfalusi666'.

Most of this is "Progressive Metal". Not progressive rock.

Most of these bands suck too.

  • Liquid Tension Experiment kicks ass.

  • what's the name of the first song?

  • Ayreon - Into the Black Hole

  • @Rammbajamba

no its not its iron maiden... for the greater good of god you nubs

  • I think Pink Floyd are... more than Marrilion anyway

  • These are good bands but they are progressive metal bands NOT pure progressive rock. What about bands like king crimson, marillion, fish, porcupine tree, panic room, emerson lake and palmer, rush, jethro tull etc. When it comes to progressive metal though what about the likes of opeth and queensryche etc.

  • It just says prgressive bands

  • 1. Symphony X (easily)

    2. Circus Maximus

    3. Andromeda

    4. Sun Caged

but its not my video, lol

  • Great! Finally someone who considers Nevermore to be progressive too. To all who deny this I just can say: listen to "the politics of extasy"-album.

  • who was the band in the beggining was it apreon or somethiung like dat

  • Also, whats the song by Liquid Tension Experiment? I haven't fully listened to their albums yet.

  • Universal mind :)

  • Very well done. A lot of this is based on opinion but you picked some great bands.

  • Worst top 10 ever

  • Jajajajajajajajajaja pura mamada

  • It's nice to see liquid tension experiment get recognized

  • tibberclaw fuckin right-on man.only band missing for is rush.

  • Personally its 1. Porcupine Tree 2. Tool 3. Pink Floyd 4. Riverside

You had some nice selections in the top 5. But seriously how does Tool not even make this list????? Perhaps the most unique band out there.

Btw, people need to stfu with Queensryche... they aren't that good. Since when is "being influential" mattered on actually how good they are? I would think you would rate bands by how good they sound now (regardless of their influence)

  • tool's the only metal one you mentioned, the rest are progressive rock, youre in the wrong channel matey

  • He didnt say there were going to be progressive metal. He just said progressive bands.

Beyond Twilight seems an interesting band which I had not heard about yet. I'll have to listen some more of them.

  • WHERE THE HELL IS QUEENSRYCHE?

  • i agree, op is a fag for not posting queensryche

  • they are prolly the best prog band along with dream theate and they arent even on here. !!! WHY???? ARGHH

  • srsly. DT was heavely ispired by queensryche.

  • ^ fanboys defending their own bands, damn ofcourse queensryche is a big inspiration for DT and SymphX , but so are Voivod, Fates Warning (even earlier prog bands) and bands like Genesis,Marillion.

  • if think about it marilion is the father of prog

  • Who's list is this? Yours or Rammbajamba's?

  • What is the name of that Nevermore song?

  • Bittersweet Feast

  • what's the name of the song played by ayreon=????

  • Into the Black Hole :)

  • thank you.....it's amazing!!!

  • And what about Dream Theater?

  • on part 2

  • a gdzie pain of salvation lapsie?
