when can't they take off in fog? Line up the runway and take off! Commercial jets can land in near 0 visibility condition but can't take off in this weather?
Its more of a matter of a Take off alternate. When visibility is this low you need a alternate landing spot within 300 miles of the departing airport. If they didn't have this then it would not be a good idea to depart.
But still, LAX has ILS, within the range (more like 30 miles), so if they took off and had any trouble, they can go to LAX and land easily in that condition.
Chances are LAX was fogged in too and to shoot an ILS on most aircraft you have to have to a minimum weather to even begin the approach. Other than that I would have no idea why the delays would be like they are in the video.
they can land because there is a thing called a "Cat III" landing aand is fully piloted and landed by the plane tkaing off.....the plane can't do that
but all the pilot has to do is just follow the center line down the runway and pull up. the tower would clear the runway. not much to worry about. amazing how they can land in almost 0 visiblity but can't take off in it.

they usually don't take-off in 0 vis. that's why they get delayed....
