  • We used to have 2 of these. The only problem with them is you would get the guys who ran Caterpillars and they would try to shift these things like a Cat. Took out transmissions left and right.

  • you guys suck crappy ass operators

  • ah the memories, some good some bad

  • OROPS lol !!!! huh?!

  • Get rid of those 2 stroke detroit diesels and you might move some earth faster and cheaper.

  • I'm a mechanic up in Saskatchewan and we sell ALOT of Terex parts. the best thing about them. Simple. They are a simple machine to run, fix, and maintain.

  • Good video, wouldn't mind running one of these for a day or two. There seems to be alot of love or hate for these machines. I sure bet they would beat a shovel and wheel barrow. Those Detroits sound like if they had wings and a propeller they could fly.

  • Good video--very poor sound!

  • sure didnt take long before the first one had a full bowl those are like 40 yard bowls right?

  • A lot of angry bees here. What a symphony!

  • Terex scrapers are a piece of crap! JUNK!!!Hope ya` stay in business. 27jockey.

  • Good old scrapers but not very nice to run. Them old bitches didn't have cusion hitches on them either.

  • ive ran one of these beast on a job as an apprentice and I hated those loud mothafuckas

  • Too bad I never had the misfortune of operating one of these godawful noisy beasts, or I'd have quit operating sooner. 8 hours one one of those would have to be worse than my 8 years on Cats.

  • good old scream of the detroits sounds like its tearing the world apart but its not getting much done.

  • Guys look this, for second operator only smoke.

The CAT sound is the best, the Trex sound is very loud.

  • The Terex sound is loud as they are fitted with 2 stroke Detroit Diesel engines!

  • gm stopped r&d money for detroit and let em sink..just when the new ddec3 electronic stuff was almost meeting standards penske took detroit in another direction.. the series 60 engine.. with low sulphur fuel and electronics the 2 stroke could make standards but alas its too late...

  • Great video production!

(If the two cycle Detroits were all that good, they'd still be in production, I think their time has come and gone.)

  • The only reason they quit building the Detroits was because during 70s when the EPA had its first go around with cutting emissions the Detroit motors didnt meet the standards. Kinda like what they are doing to Cummins and Caterpillar now.

  • i like the sound detroit diesels make. its kinda has a "dont fuck with me" sound to it.

  • Not if you have to sit on top of them for 12 hrs/day.

  • detroits in harmany nice

  • yeah too slow they put cushion hitches on the good machines for a reason to go faster nothing to do with comfort all about production and if ya really want loads you cant beat 623/33 cat forever

  • see alot of pansie ass so called operators on here..cry about cushion hitches..cry about too slow..cry about the noise. There are not many what you would call operators left any more..all have to have air conditioning, stereo, gps units, blade control units..hell anyone can "drive" but it takes a special breed to really operate. Take all the bells and whistles off and just have the basic machine left they would have no clue on what to do. The true operator is sadly fading away into the sunset.

  • Couldnt agree more to all the knockers that terex will still be working driving right past the modern stuff that will be siting off the side with some electrical gremlyn

  • you got that wright i agree with you 100%

  • someone please bury all the 14's

  • Hmmm...yeah, brings back memories, mostly bad. You got some guys on here that love em, some hate em. Me?

Didn't like the sound. Head is still ringing more than 30 yrs later. Had Detroit truck too. Didn't like that either.

Didn't like rough ride. No cushion hitch.

Didn't like cable pan. No down-pressure.

    Didn't like cab layout.

BUT, that summer, we hauled alot of dirt with those two.

  • God thoes are shit! Stiff hitch's kick your ass!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes most Detroit are noramlly load, but they are dam good motor, i used to operate a Terex Ts18 And They are nice machines, Somes i'd rather run terex motor scraper then a dozer and scraper, i love scraping Dirt , Again The Terex Ts18 are and is still a good machine to use and have, they are heavy , and i mean heavy, but in good shape, they are dam good machines,

  • godamn detroit screamin in my ear

  • ive never seen push pull 14s before...amazing

  • slow

  • Twin stroke diesel. 18,000 rpm. What a noise.

  • LOL more like 2500RPM. or around there, maybe a little more if they are 4 cyl, but they sound like 8Vs.

  • just sounds higher since, the cycle is cut in half.

  • Knife River?

  • no, in Belgium

  • push pull...twin engine scrapers, but they r going to slo and over xcavating

  • green weenies or anything cat with a 1 or 7 after them, you want to stay away from unless you want some serious back pain later on down the road. just look at these two operators fight each other in the cut. if you dig pre-cuts then have at it.... buy some Excedrin:)

  • i love the way they sound

  • Still the best scrapers ever made.

  • still the best scraper {engines sound} ever bet the operators after all day had that sound in there heads all night even when they went to bed . heck i listen with my head set or stereo speakers!!

  • mum does better

  • the one i ran had a v 16 in the front and v 12 in the back that darn thing was huge! if i remeber it had a 30 yard bowl

  • 4 headlights make them TS18s Cats are loud enough without that Detroit droning noise...those guys do seem to be taking a long time to get loaded. We usually hook up on the move, but it can be dangerous!

    alan627b

  • We called them lizards, nobody wanted to run them but the guys that did claimed they could trim better than anything else, I tried one once, but they aren't built for anyone over 6ft. Too many sharp edges in the cab...and the noise...OMG...the noise!

  • those guys don't have a clue on how to push-pull...you can only bulk so much dirt and c'mon how long does it really take to load? I understand terex is some how garbage, but come on now!!!

  • Green Weenies!! I'd rather shit in my hand and run it through my hair than run one of those again. Terex Sucks, gutless, rough, peices of shit.

  • junk...absolute junk.

  • i know they have 2 engines each machine, how many cylinders are in each of them?

  • the engines are 2 cycle Detriot Diesel 4-71N each engine is 4 cylinders. Displacement is 284 cubic inches. in this application horsepower is 144 hp each engine.

  • This is called tandem pushing? Ive heard of it, seen it in leaflets that i used to get as a kids, but never seen it in practice. Doesnt that put a lot of strain on the engines? Normaly A heavy dozer would give em a shove, that what they do opver here. Check out my vids.

  • awesome video love the sound of those Detroit's i ran a terex TS14B at the company i used to work for truly one awesome machine they don't build them like they used to and now they paint them white grrr.

  • these guys are probably the biggest money makers around. play follow the leader, don't hot rod don't break down and they aren't trying to flip the scrapers over.

  • Those are way more bad ass then kittycats, I wish they still painted em green!

  • I owened one of these babys a while ago and they are the toughest little scrapers you can get!

  • @TerexPete You could always tell a Euc driver but no much because he couldn't hear. I had three of these on a project one year, sounded like a gang of lawnmowers on steroids. No cushion hitch on the 14b resulted in cracks in the gooseneck.

  • They took way to long loading. Watch the back guy, he was loaded in about 10 seconds but kept it in the ground for almost 35 seconds. And why were they hooking up stopped?! It's a team sport, you should get to the cut at the same time so you can hook up on the move. A partner that runs away from you is a dumbass. So if each scraper is wasting 20~30 seconds a cycle, figuring 75 to 100 cycles per shift, that a lot of damn time and money down the drain.

  • Ohhh hail the king of scraper operators.

Have a piece of Humble Pie & STFU asshole.

  • yes you are so right about the inefficiencies costing loads of money. but its also easy to criticise a single load out of 1000's. unless of course you are just wanting to show off your knowledge. which is fine

  • Hooking up on the move is very cost effective - until one driver gets it slightly wrong and puts the other driver in hospital (I wasn't put in hospital but I was off work for 10 days).

That's why it has been banned on my work site.

  • THE Sound of the dual 471's makes miss my 85 C/20 Chevy w/ the 471T i dropped in him when i was 16 BUT MONEY TALKED(8k) WHEN I WAS 23 & was time to part w/ it

  • Seems like I remember air over hydraulic controls on those old Terexes. Maybe that was just the trans.....

  • they do the job tom

  • how long have you been in a scraper cause it takes u way to long to get loaded i run a Cat 627G and it dont take us that long at all!!

  • Hello,

You have to know that these scrapers are twenty years old.

  • and the type of dirt

  • damn the single stick in the G is nice

  • I miss the old Terexes.

  • music to my ears

  • Hell yeah. God bless 2 stroke detroits look at my videos

  • good deal them ole boys work em like i do.make that rear engine do the pushing.Notice tha e smoke from that one.
