I hate it when people say that Elizabeth killed Jack. Elizabeth didn't kill him. Jack was alive. If he was dead, Tia Dalma could've brought him back like she did with Barbossa. She said herself Jack isn't dead because he's "taken to a place not of death..." if he's not taken to a place of death, he's not dead. Elizabeth would never kill Jack. There's only 4 men she wanted dead:Jones, Buckethead, Mercer, and Icecreamhead(Norrington.) She'd never hurt Jack.
If he's dead, then that would mean that Elizabeth and the rest of them are dead too. However, when talking to her father, Elizabeth tells him she's not dead. If Elizabeth and the others are not dead after falling from a waterfall, then Jack can't be dead. Elizabeth wouldn't kill Jack. She only kills the villains, like Buckethead. As I said, if Jack was dead, there'd be no need to go to World's End. And his soul would've been in the boats or in the water. He is neither so he's alive.
Even Jack refers to the situation as Elizabeth having killed him. He just said it: "Four of you've tried to kill me in the past- one of you succeeded." If Jack's not TECHNICALLY 'dead', he's still as good as, and Elizabeth had no idea she wasn't killing him when she chained him to the mast. You're right that she'd never kill him for the sake of killing him, but she did try to kill him when she thought it was the only way for the rest of them to survive.
You can't take Jack's word because his mind is haywire from the Dutchman. He doesn't know where he is. Besides, he can't be dead because Will, Elizabeth, etc. are not and they are in the Locker. And Tia Dalma said he was taken to a place of punishment, not death. If he were dead, he'd be on one of those boats or floating in the water.
Elizabeth never tried to kill Jack. She didn't want to hurt him. She wanted to save him, too.
The fact that Jack turns out to not TECHNICALLY be dead has nothing to do with whether or not Elizabeth acted in a way she believed to arrange his death. Think back to movie 2: she found out that the kraken was sent to destroy Jack, so she chained him to the mast knowing the kraken would go for him, leaving her and the others to escape in their boat, and her to feel horribly guilty until she was SHOCKED to find out he could be saved.
Why she feels guilty I don't know. She shouldn't have felt guilty because what she did was perfect. Jack had to go down with his ship. Elizabeth never makes a wrong decision so leaving Jack was a good thing. I don't know why she feels bad about doing something perfectly good. It's not like she killed him.
And of COURSE Elizabeth's primary motivation wasn't to kill Jack- she cared for him, and it was an out-of-character thing for her to do. But it showed she was WILLING to arrange his death IN ORDER TO SAVE OTHER LIVES. And that's what she did- she chained to the mast of a ship in the middle of the ocean a man whose hand was a homing beacon for a massive sea monster which had been specifically sent to 'destroy' him. She doesn't get credit just because it turns out he didn't die.
Elizabeth wasn't willing to arrange Jack's death because Jack can't die. Jack's the hero and heroes don't die, especially in Disney movies. She would never have left him there if it meant death for him.
I'm not kidding. Elizabeth never makes wrong decisions and leaving Jack to the Kraken, though it doesn't seem like it, was a good decision. If she hadn't, they'd all be trapped in the Locker. I know that Elizabeth didn't know Jack could be saved.
Elizabeth arranged nothing. I don't know why she feels guilty because 1. She saved everyone. 2. Jack can be saved 3. She killed no one, even if she didn't know Jack could be saved. She only kills villains, like Beckett and Norrington
You're given two buttons- "Kill child" and "Feed child".
SECRETLY, the wires are crossed and each button will actually perform the other's function. M_1 presses "feed", and a child dies. M_2 presses "kill", and a child receives food. Should M_1, who tried to do the right thing, feel guilty? And should M_2, who tried to kill the child, NOT feel guilty? Elizabeth feels guilty because she knows she's the second man.
M_2 shouldn't because it didn't happen. If there's no death, what's to feel guilty about? Same with Elizabeth. She didn't kill Jack. She didn't even try. And he's going to come back. What's to feel guilty about when she didn't do anything wrong?
"What's to feel guilty about" is that Elizabeth betrayed a close friend. She deceived him (kissing him to distract him), and set him up as bait for a monster which she believed would destroy him. She felt guilty because she knew that these were the actions of a BAD person, not a good person, and she was ashamed as most people would be. She was certainly GLAD when she found out he wasn't dead, but she doesn't get moral CREDIT for him not being dead, because she had nothing to do with that.
She betrayed no one. Elizabeth is a perfectly good woman and only villains betray, like that wicked Norrington. She is certainly no villain and her action was not a betrayal. If it was, Jack would hate her but he was smiling when she chained him to the mast. Elizabeth's actions were a good person doing something right, like saving lives. She shouldn't be ashamed because she didn't kill him and she saved all of them. Jack didn't blame her, why should she blame herself?
If you had a friend who was wearing a special perfume which attracted an enormous trained bear, and the bear had specifically been commanded to to "hunt down" your friend, and you were in a forest and you knew the bear was coming, and you chained your friend to a tree?
You killed your friend.
And if that bear turns out to be a magic bear who takes your friend to an alternate realm instead of killing them? You don't get credit for that, because you didn't know it would happen!
"i leave u people alone for a minute and look what happens, everything goes to pot" i love dat part bcoz it is so true except maybe he was gone longer then a minute but that's not the point...the point is johnny depp is the funniest actor out
I understood the four people who tried to kill him as Will, Barbossa, and Calypso (I think that was mentioned by one of the writers....?) and then Elizabeth, who tried, and suceeded. I may be wrong... but that's how I interpreted it! :)
Its more what Elizabeth says that affects him. Until that point he doesnt think they're real. Plus, Elizabeth did kill him so he's probably not best pleased to see her.
I think it's more he suddenly remembers why he's there cuz he goes back to Gibbs and says 'the locker u say' and it seems to realise they're real then.
will turner, barbasso and miss swan tried to kill jack and who's the another one?

orlandogirl213 2 years ago
Okay, now I'm starting to believe you're actually joking (let me know).
Your logic just went:
Elizabeth never makes wrong decisions
Elizabeth just left her friend to be monster food
Therefore leaving one's friend to be monster food isn't a wrong decision.
(Also, heroes in movies don't know they're heroes in movies; she did not know that screenwriters would not allow Jack to die.)
And while you "don't know" why she feels guilty, the rest of us do- because she arranged for Jack to die!
bKiwiD 2 years ago

So that makes you a consequentialist.
The problem with that:
You're given two buttons- "Kill child" and "Feed child".

orlandogirl213 2 years ago
Okay, after this I'm going to stop replying to you because you seem actually incapable of changing your perspective.
Firstly, check anywhere- scripts, wikipedia, actors' interviews- Elizabeth's actions are defined as a "betrayal".
Secondly, Jack DOES blame her, explicitly, and only gets over it halfway through the third movie.
Thirdly, your idea that E. is a "perfectly good woman" is bizarre and unfounded, and as such it can't be used as 'evidence' in your arguments.
Good night!
