"all the animals that disappeared would reappear", no they wont, we fished them to extinction, they cant reappear if they are all gone.
For example: The Northern Cod fishery was overfishing since the 1950's until it collapsed in 1992 and the cod were on the brink of extinction. Even now the cod show no signs of recovery.
We can save what is left but i very much doubt we can restore the oceans to the state they were in before commercial fishing began.
This video only shows high impact fisheries like bottom trawling. I am an Alaskan Fisherman, and I'm here to say that there ARE low impact sustainable fisheries. It's up to the consumer to do some research to know what they're eating.
All you hippies that have a problem with fishing, stop eating fish then! There would be less demand, and therefore less fishermen. Wait, all you hippies eat is veggies and fish anyways. "The animals of the ocean" What a dumbass
Though I stand on middle ground here, one thing I don't particularly understand is the fact that even though you had contrasting views, you still decided to waste your time watching something you knew you were going to leave a negative comment for. But... if one could actually get a little less than half of the world to not eat fish, the effects upon the economy would be staggering.
lol. What am I to say on this topic? I'm only a high schooler. ^__^
No you can't fishing is a cause of global warming, not something that is getting worse as a result of global warming see fisherycrisis website
Overfishing is much more important than pollution as it removes Nitrogen from the system can cannot be replaced, resulting in decreased biomass. There is about 1/10 the amount of fish there was in the sea 50 years ago.
"There is about 1/10 the amount of fish there was in the sea 50 years ago."
There are two major causes of this that need to be fixed.
The first is subsidies; as a fish stocks become more scarce the fisheries begin to suffer. Governments artificially sustain fisheries that can and should fail, allowing fish stocks no respite.
The second is a tragedy of the commons resulting from a lack of property rights. There's no incentive to manage fish stocks because your individual impact is so small.
whatever...no one can deny there's waaaay less fish on the whole than there has been in the past...you can still make a living fishing in a conscientous manner...
weel im a fisherman in the north sea and no matter what all the sciantists say i know that there are more fish in the north sea that there have been for years
Is oceana currently trying to do anything about victoria dumping millions of gallons of raw sewage into the ocean? I think that to be more destructive than trawling.

If we, the human species, don't LEARN to live at a sustainable level then a level, not to our liking, will be impossed upon us.
Why don't people get it?
Why don't people get it?
Why don't people get it?
Are they obsessed with their little tribal games?
Do they worship "The Economy"?
Are people no different from lemmings?
If you have 100 fish in a pool and you take out 98 fish, how many fish do you have left.
Don't people know what the word "if" means????????????????????????

An insignificant one. Simply move to quickly replace coal and stop oil sand/oil shale and clathrate extraction and the problem is solved.

Are you insane? We're flushing so much nitrogen and phosphate into the sea that we're causing major eutrophication and anoxic dead zones.
