They sound great but why oh why do recordings of so many historical events like this sound like a damned Folkways field recording? I know its a bootleg but what would the harm had been if the UNCF actually released some quality audio (AND video for that matter) of this?

In the video broadcast, they cut off almost all of the songs and performances.. However, in the audio files I've posted to this account from that Tribute Evening, I've left them complete (sorry for all the whoopin' and hollerin' - we got carried away!)

Also saw Sarah at Diva's Simply Singing in L.A. Oct 11th and she sang beautifully. She used her voice in three different tones. She's a very underrated vocalist. Even at 65 or so she still has a very powerful and clear sounding voice.

I was at this affair honoring Patti. Nona and Sarah was singing with background singers.

Yeah I can hear them--but Nona and Sarah are waaaaay up front. Having some additional singers to fill out the background doesn't bother me as long as Nona and Sarah are way up front

They sound amazing and don't forget that this is just Nona and Sarah singing--they are singing to Patti, who is in the audience from what I understand! Can you imagine what it'll be like when all three are singing?

Nona and Sarah sang with backup singers on this number, and then they joined Ms. Patti on the stage with all the other performers for another version of Lady M., after Patti did "A Change is Gonna Come"..

they also went out into the audience to give a hug to Patti during this one... Patti was in a center orchestra area with friends and family, sitting in something resembling a throne! ;-)

I am amazed! I can't believe how good they sound. The energy generated is incredible. The song is still as powerful as it was over twenty-five years ago.

Glad you're enjoying this, but there were no performances I recorded of Nona & Sarah, except where they sang with Ms. Patti at the end after she did "Change is Gonna Come..."

It will be great to see this on the show on Jan. 24th/25th!
