How about getting the government out of the K-12 business and return the tax dollars to the people so that they can choose the education for their kids? We home-school our kids for less than $500 per child/year. They're at least 2 years ahead of their peers on each subject. I'm asking myself more often, "Exactly why should I pay property taxes and income taxes so the governement can spend thousands to miseducate someone else's child?"
