  • Upchuck Norris!

  • Kill it! Kill it with fire!

No seriously get in here MacReady and KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!

  • Alright, modern film makers.

    Look at these effects.

It's scary, because it's made out of real materials.

What you're all doing these days.

    Is shit.

  • No

  • Is this scene on the new one?

  • @adrisilva16 The clip gives you the answer at 2:05 :)

  • Hmm. reminds me of Dead Space.....

  • Find this kind of funny

  • It's like the birth scene from breaking dawn.

  • @teecee2468 The only difference it's that this scene is LEGENDARY!

Breaking Dawn it's a boring piece of crap , don't you agree?? xD!

  • 0:09 lol did not see that coming

  • Okay so that was just about the worst thing ever xD but after recovering, I noticed how fucking odd it is that his stomach chomped his hands off XDD

  • bet this could be my all time fave film

remake is ok butr needed to watch this right away

  • tgi film is so scarily fooked up i go to bedeach night squirming

  • This is very good for a movie that's 30 years old

  • "This version of "The Thing" was and still is ahead of its time-without question!"

  • Haha only watch the remake of this so far but........ This..... THIS I HAVE TO SEE

  • @Melody1474 LMAO!

  • Thumbs up if I-Am-Bored(dot)com brought you here

  • classic <3

  • awesomw scene. best sci/fi ever!

  • Never seen this film, but just awoke from strange dreams and something told me to type 'The Thing' into youtube. Not disappointed. That's exactly what I needed to start the day. Awesome!!

  • best horror scene ever!

  • fuck staying around im a right sefish bastard

  • wow now that is a belly buster

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool a breath ov fresh air

  • one ugly muther fucker

  • is the guy dead then

  • The interesting thing about this scene is when you get over the gore and effects and start looking at the cat and mouse game, this scene has one important and strange indication: Palmer, the guy who says "you gotta be kidding me" at the end, alerting the rest of the team to the run-away-head, is almost certainly already an Alien himself at this point. Which raises some interesting questions on how the alien works.

  • @omegastar19 It's trying to divert attention from itself.

  • @thetan63 And the fleeing head stops and is all like "Dude, WTF man?! I thought we were bros?" Or at least it would if it wasn't a disembodied head with no lungs...Which raises the completely nitpicking question of how can the disembodied head scream as its being burnt? ;)

  • @BaddGirl420 It's not the head screaming, it's the alien organism, which apparently has its' own set of organs, no matter how small it gets.

  • @thetan63 I suppose I'll have to accept that explanation. ;)

  • this movie was SO much better than the one they did last year

  • @tylerscreamo I do not disagree with you. The new one was not superior, but neither was it awful. I was particularly pleased with the way they tied in all of the little details you see when they are exploring the Norwegian camp in the original, such as the axe in the wall and the burnt thing with two heads connected by the cheeks. On the other hand, the way they handled the dog bothered me. If it was infected so early on, why did it wait so long to run away? It just disappeared until the end....

  • He pulled his arms out....

  • LOL Awesome!

  • This must have been the scariest shit ever for the people living in the 1950s

  • @warrior4641 This is the 1980's one.

  • WHAT THE F-?! THAT WAS THE MOST SCARY, FREAKY F*CKED UP SH*T EVER!

Then why is it that I'm suddenly being drawn towards the other clips down the side? D:

  • Huh....I'm hungry.

  • combination metroid fusion x parasite and flood from halo both are rip off the thing luckily this scene is not even scary compare to the thing 2011 fucking creepy

  • this is the film of 1950?

  • @ReturnBierzoFriends no this is 1980

  • This fucking shit still looks miles better and more disgusting than the cgi creatures from the prequel-remake.

  • When i first watched this scene,i went:"HOLY SHIT"!!!

  • *blaagh*

  • Ha ha. U gotta be f**king kidding me. All stare. XD

  • 96reddawn I was thinking the same thing. Dead Space is a lot like this.

  • I find the head difficult to masturbate to.

  • @Neuffey i find it rather easy

  • @Neuffey You are one sick puppy!

  • "You gotta be fucking kidding..."

This has to be one of the best clips in the film. I remember watching this on VHS when it came out - one of my favourite Carpenter films.

  • man.....

so this is where the creators of dead space got the idea.........

  • I came from the Spore creature The Thing.

  • I'm Wilford Brimley, and I have diabetuss

  • The best movie ever made

  • "You gotta be fucking kidding..."

    Love it.

  • How the fuck do new films with huge ass budgets not even get CLOSE to producing anything LIKE the effects in this, even if it was the best CGI available today being used here, it wouldn't be half as creepy.

  • @soaponaroapDG

It's quite simple, really. Here, John Carpenter is using effects and makeup that are real and tangible, therefore making The Thing look REAL. On the other hand CGI looks as though it has been created and also intangible, making a CGI Thing more of a nightmare than some monster that can actually fucking kill you. It's the same with any movie monster, really.

  • @soaponaroapDG Lack of imagination.

  • @soaponaroapDG

Because Hollywood treats creativity and artistic genius like how undercooked meat treats a public toilet.

  • They had flame throwers to melt ice from around the vehicles and wam up their tracks. When my dad used to work with plant machinery in the winter they would pour fuel on the catapilar tracks and ignite it to melt the ice and warm them up otherwise it would work.

  • How does a disembodied head scream without access to a set of lungs?

  • @SuperRobertoboy Because it's the thing bro. It's the thing

  • @SuperRobertoboy Because it's the Thing, it is unlike you and I. Any questions?

  • HOLY SHIIIIT.THIS MOVIE IS SICK AND AWESOME XD

  • class

  • The real mystery in this film isn't the origin of this alien virus- It's why they have a fucking flamethrower

  • @SomeBlokeLol How else do you melt ice/snow in the Antarctic? Candles?

  • @SomeBlokeLol To melt ice with. Seems obvious.

  • Jerk doctor shouldn't have pushed so hard with the de-fib paddles.

  • Nothing short of MASTERPIECE. John carpenter didn't get the credit he deserved.

  • wow justin bieber would wanna have sex with that lol

  • @JonnycageRulz

"DURR HURR HURR I PUT JUSTIN BEIBER IN MY JOKE SO ITS FUNNY DURR HURR."

    Grow up, for fuck's sake.

  • the effects are amazing for the time of release...nice

  • excellent effects, fuck the remake John Carpenter rules!

  • Best horror film yet, nothings beat it! Will be good to see the prequel that's coming out next week!

  • What is it really, big pharma? Maybe the fed?

  • better than CGI

  • His stomach bit his arms off lol hella fat

  • Now that I'm watching this scene while under the heavy influence of herbal brain medicine, I find myself realizing that.. wow, John Carpenter is one demented, twisted mother-Mofo.. but in an awesome way.. You gotta be fucking kidding me...lol

  • @microscepter die in a fire

  • @Kapov bring the blow torch and I happily will

  • I just shit my pants ಠ_ಠ

  • This is was SO cool and could NEVER be done again! It was all real models and released MASSIVE toxic vapors from all the burning plastic. Botin talks about it in the making of. This is how the Thing would ultimately be, the ultimate survivor. They wanted to top Alien and create the anti-E.T. with this movie, with this scene they did both!

  • I haven't found monster horrors scary at all since I saw the original Alien in like 1997. I'm 21 now, just saw the remake of The Thing and I thought it was fucking terrifying.

  • 0:32 My father's face when I got B.

  • @chn1459 B??????

  • @TheI3eastUK Its pointed to grade, which means B is almost the highest score so A does.

  • You gotta be fucking kidding ಠ_ಠ

  • @deicide663 the new ones not a remake its a prequel

  • this movie was good the remake was okay is just the graphics looked extremly fake in this one it looked realistic

  • darn this is chilling and freaky, i still remember it...a true classic! i haven't seen the remake though

  • This is quite possible one of the most nastiest things i've seen in a horror movie.

  • you gotta be fuckin kidding! LOL!!!! I LOVE this movie!

  • i love this movie as well as the prequel. people need to get over themselves and not think that they're too "cultured" to like a horror movie made past 2000.

  • @zoezoexoe

No, I dislike the prequel because it has too many inconsistancies with the Carpenter film it's suppose to go before.

Like getting the Norwegians who survived wrong, the pilot is the one shot by Gary, NOT LARS. Don't believe me, watch the Carpenter film, at the 7:30 seconds mark or so, you will see the pilot get out of the chopper with the rifle. Not LARS.

The dog isn't even close to the same, the kerosene cans by splitface are MISSING, the ICE CAVE is not in the Carpenter movie either

  • This fucked up

    my brain cells

  • I love playing this movie to people who have never seen it.

  • im mad it took them so long for them to see it

  • Needs more fire.

    Needs more dynamite.

  • This is soo much better than the new one. The CGI looked like crap in the new one.

  • @danyeo actually the new one is a prequel. taking place 3 days before these events. if u kow abt it.

  • @Melody1474 And what does that have to do with the fact that the new movie wasn't that good? I obviously saw them both, I have the 80's version on DVD.

  • well........... that just happened

  • But will it blend?

  • i like how it kind of just stops in the doorway like, "lol hi"

  • @quadcorepiracy That's what I was thinking lol

  • What I want to know is if Palmer was the thing then why was he one of the first to point out the spider head? granted Windows and him did see it at the same time I guess

  • @fritzz363 It saved itself by making them think that by killing the spider head, it was dead for good thus they wouldn't find him suspicious.

  • @JackAtlus14 Its like Mafia :) putting suspicion on your partner makes you look innocent

  • @fritzz363 The Thing will sacrifice its own to survive and blend in better.

  • @fritzz363

Each Thing is individual (so they don't help each other) and it's heavily implied that the person doesn't know they're the Thing until they've been discovered.

  • @bodfe34

Nope, wrong it is conclusively inferred that the human is long dead and an imitation is simply in its place.

  • Interesting that if watch the original Halloween the movie that the kids are watching with Jamie lee Curtis at night is the original 50's The Thing

  • ¡¿YOU HAVE TO BE FUCKING KIDDING?!

  • @civilizationizlost Me too but if I tilt my head and look at it from a different angle its very good masterbation material.

  • @civilizationizlost Speak for yourself.

  • the yelling noise the thing makes is mad creepy

  • Not a good time to lose one's "head". That's not the way to get "ahead" in life. It's a shame it wasn't more "headstrong". It'll never be the "head" of a major corporation.

  • SICK but AWESOME :D

  • NECROMORPH

    FTW

  • @Ibringthetruth1 the original was a slap in the face to the source material, I hate to say it but... I bring the truth..............

  • the prequel was better than the other horror remakes in my opinion

  • Comment removed

  • ewwww LOL!

  • laaaaaame

  • @codafett no shit. What the fuck do you mean by 'real' anyway? How real do you want an alien head to be? They don't exist. Give it a break anyway, this is a 70's film what the fuck do you expect. They made a fantastic effort.

  • @Ashtiany2 Actually, it's from the 80's.

  • @Giodude Irrelevant, but thanks for the heads up.

  • @Ashtiany2 No problem.

  • That alien head didn't look real at all.

  • 0:45 that neck goop spewing out is fuckn great

  • the 2011 adaption was alright in my opinion, very much a copy of this besides the end.

  • THIS WAS GREAT! the 2011 prequel wasn't a very good movie...

  • someone should of ran over for the CURB STOMP.

  • when i saw this for the first time, this scared me soo bad :P i love this movie, i want to see the new one, but i heard its really bad....i think i might see it tomorrow.....

  • @MrLukeimurdad6 The new one is decent. Scary and pretty tense. Judge for yourself when you go see it.

  • i proper lol'd at 2:01

  • oh crap chucky is scarier

  • It's a good shit,a good scary movie shouldn't have only monster and etc,it should have an dark atmosphere and good sounds like this one and The Exorcist

  • Comment removed

  • i like how a flamethrower works like a flamethrower should in this movie

  • this is a good film for 1982...couple of times i did jump!
