The 7th grade, the highschool record hops and doing the freddie. Pure magic, even though we looked insane lol. The British Invasion changed our world here in the States.
How could anyone not like Freddie, he wasn't a carbon copy of anyone. He had such a good time, acting the nut, he made us all happy. I still love you Freddy. Don't you dare RIP, just keep kickin it in heaven, see ya soon!
The sad part about this is even the lightweight groups of that era played their own instraments, unlike today's untalented watered-down hip hop pop garbage.
São verdadeiros visionários da música, pois desde aquela época faziam o ¨rock divertido¨ tão imitado hoje em dia por 1.000.000 de bandas. Merecem nosso respeito!
I visited Freddie in the hospital before he died and he was telling the nurses and me dirty jokes! Pete was actually the funniest one in the band. They were a very good band despite the clowning.
It would be easy to write them off as a novelty act but despite the clowning around, they were a great band. Love their version of Thurston Harris's Little Bitty Pretty One. One thing people forgot in the late sixties was that groups didn't have to be all that serious to be good.
I agree, the clowning around they did on their stage act undermined the fact that they were a highly competent beat group a lot better than they were actually given credit for. Certainly most of the stuff they recorded on their first two albums and their EP's and singles was as good as anything else that any other groups contributed to the British beat boom. EMI recently released an extensive two-disc compilation, The Ultimate Collection, which is well worth having.
They all looked like bank employees. Freddie actually had a very good voice, it's just the clowning that diminishes the group. But that was their act, take it or leave it. They had some good songs, my fave was the recorded-in-the-US "Do The Freddie". Apparently only Freddie was in on the recording session. Mercury Records wanted it that way.

Even at a young age (me at 12 in 1965), you felt that some of them were jumping on the bandwagon, and some of them had missed it.

The clowning distinguishes the group is what I should have said. Freddie & the boys are out to put smiles on faces. That they do.
