@badpanda84 It is good for all athletes, including bodybuilders. It has a little something for everyone, including protein to help a bodybuilder's muscles recover after a long workout.
I can't believe this. I was just finishing my first P90X workout, when I was looking for some water in the fridge (thinking to myself, I'm tired as hell and I know water won't help me at all), where I saw a cup which had a quote on it: "Good things will happen." I looked at it and nodded. Then I wen't right yo YouTube, searching for recovery drinks, and now I find chocolate milk is the optimal recovery drink. This just gives me like a 150% motivation boost on my P90X process.
@jstafford81 It's true that they both contain the same nutrients and (roughly) 3-to-1 carbohydrate to protein ratio, and that white milk also works well as a recovery drink.
However, because flavored milks (chocolate in this case) have a little more sugar than white milk, they help restore your glycogen levels a little better.
As a wrestler, I have to lose weight all the time. Water is pretty much the only option and it's only a limited amount. Will chocolate milk affect my weight loss diet?
The key to maintaining a healthy body weight is to balance calories from foods and beverages with calories expended by physical activities. An 8 oz serving of chocolate milk provides 158 calories but is also 90% water and is loaded with nine essential nutrients. This is important for your body as it recovers after intense workouts.
As a wrestler, its important that you make your desired weight but it is equally important that you keep your body hydrated. Ultimately, I would recommend seeking the advice of a specialist in Sports Dietetics if you are concerned with your weight loss regimen.
It is. There have been a lot of recent studies showing chocolate milk's benefits as a recovery drink after exercise. These studies include the British Journal of Nutrition, the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Try some chocolate milk after your next workout and let us know how you like it!
The video does mention lowfat chocolate milk but there are also 1/2 percent flavored milks available and even white skim milk works great as a recovery drink as it has the same nutrients as flavored milk.
Because intense exercise reduces the muscles' supply of stored glucose (glycogen), the sugar in the lowfat chocolate milk helps recharge your glycogen levels. In addition to the protein and 9 essential nutrients in lowfat chocolate milk, it's very cost-effective and great-tasting compared to a lot of sports drinks.
They should start giving my crew team chocolate milk then.
