This is simply caused because one of the hands was rendered in such a way that you could see through it at the sides of the hand when it turned, and the inside of the hand slowly moved outwards until the hand was rotating in the opposite direction. Very clever.

Its not that hard to do. You take a mesh of a hand, look at the X,Y,Z to make the meshes size, and you invert just one, by adding it negative, than it turns out to be a negatve effect.
