  • Damn. 2:06-3:15 That's how a deep pocket solo sounds.

  • That's whats called a pocket drummer............

  • "C? ...C minor?" hahaha Steve is so Beast, so is Pino. What a super group. This is my favorite version of John!

  • I would give up all my material possessions to learn from Steve Jordan. These guys are legends. Amazing chemistry.

  • LOOK AT ALL THOSE WHITE PEOPLE

  • between pino and steve those white bitches dont know what happened. there just following the scarf.

  • "The Meters- Cissy Strut" 1969.....KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

  • The Palladino Jordan combo is like auditory Viagra.

  • when and where was that show...i want to find the whole show

  • a d'angelo song covered by john mayer... in otherwords, awesome

  • @JBaileyspiderz0

ACTUALLY it's not D'angelo's song. It's a song by The Meters.

  • @Drumminsince89 The first part is the D'angelo song. The last part is the Meters song. Jam in the middle. Just like the title says

  • awesome !

  • no way that 4:20 to 4:45 is complete improvisation. i refuse to believe it. it just sounds so fucking right...genius

  • Steve Jordan's drumming at the end, ( and even half way through), sounds very like the great John Bonham from Led Zeppelin. He (SJ), like (JB), is absolutely brilliant.

  • great jam..

  • Genius.

  • This is porno.

There, i said it. This music is fore play.

  • it would be soo sick to jam with steve jordan and pino all day

  • 4:33 :D

  • ok what is chicken grease? do i wanna know, is it what i think it is?

  • @FreaquedeMusique It's a D'Angelo song. It was on D'Angelo's Voodoo album. The song is great.

  • @trooper40below

NOpe try again..Its an original by The Meters

  • @Drumminsince89 It's a D'Angelo. It's not Cissy Strut...D'Angelo's song is called Chicken Grease. I just listened to the Meters song and didn't hear anything in there that D'Angelo took. Nothing at all.

  • hahaha @1:21 bored ass chick

  • Gotta give credit to Mayer. He bid his time playing sappy pop tunes for the little girlies until he made his name, then came out with what he wanted to do in the first place & blew everybody away with his talent...

  • @bearmassaro He actually likes playing his "sappy" pop tunes...

  • @SubsistenceSC I'm sure he does, he wrote 'em. LOL

But it just seems he's much more comfortable with this style than with "Daughters" or "Wonderland"...

  • I'm here just for Jordan and Paladino

  • JM3 ROCKS!!!!!

  • What a cocky bastard. He can't even commit to a real jam..loves to talk like a bluesman. The dummer has much more talent.

  • i love how they do the yell at the start of Cissy Strut, just like the Meters did on the recording :)

  • @ChaoticEuphoria Really its a cover of D Angelo's song entitled "chicken Grease"

  • @ChaoticEuphoria Really its a cover of D Angelo's song entitled "chicken Grease"

  • @11alwaysyoung and Pino plays bass with D'Angelo on that one too =)

  • esoteric. what an unaprieciated word!

  • So unusual, our practice goes exactly like this, except we're not famous!!

  • @ aartbij - I've watched this video many times over the years...love it. Do you know where this was filmed? All those fortunate people to be in a small venue with the Trio.

  • 3:05......

  • and then they start cissy strut. everyone gets fucked in the face.

  • @griffinmpable didn't mean to dislike.

  • If anyone else was like me and was stoked to see him sit by his pedalboard so you could get a close up of it, heres what there was.

Boss TU-2, Keeley Katana, Ibanez TS 808, Boss BD 2 Keeley Mod, Way Huge Aqua Puss (Original), Trex Replica. and a wah of some kind. Thats all I could see.

  • @ThreadedBullet I believe that around that time he used an original Marshall Bluesbreaker as well

  • @ThreadedBullet do you know which loop station he used?

  • homework? what homework?

  • Looks like John went back to growing up in his bedroom playing guitar there when he was on the floor.

  • Aah! 4:20 I'm feelin'it yo!

  • This sit down solo is some of the best stuff I've seen from John. Really impressive. Reminds me that I suck.

  • absolute funk.does anyone have the solo mayer does when he's sitting down from 4'22 onwards?

  • Did he say Turkey Grease!! o.O

  • he knowsabout soul ,,,, thats it

  • Pino is the Chicken .

  • @aramb10 and Steve Jordan provides the grease

  • @sk8rbuoi sure it is

  • Steve, the Jordan of drumming.

  • @dejd Nice.

  • thats sorry

  • well what do ya know.. you get a talented modern blues guitarist, a funky drummer and one of the best bass players in the business and you start to think, all is not lost :)

  • @davidwantsahug

David i agree....good luck on that hug man.

  • used to hate playin this tune..... guess you gotta have the right groove : )

  • it affects the tone. the length of the strings behind the nut changes a bit.

  • Awesome chill music!!

  • anyone know why he's playing a left handed guitar stringed backwards? i know it's a hendrix thing but, why here?

  • @JacobyLong It's a regular strat with a reverse headstock. you can tell by the pickguard orientation. I believe it to be purely cosmetic.

  • @JacobyLong Its a Hendrix tribute guitar, so naturally Fender chose to reverse the headstock so all right handed players can still look as badass as Jimi without actually BEING as badass as Jimi.

  • "The Thin"

  • Steve Jordan has one of the tastiest drumming.

    deeeeeeeeeelicious

  • @rch456789

=] He got a very nice pocket :D

  • girl at 4:44 you are very cute

  • at around 3 minutes it sounds like it could be an opening for somethings missing.

  • All those white people think Chicken Grease is a John Mayer song.

  • I don't know if the original is from D'angelo but It surely is the best version I've heard so far

  • "John Mayer // Steve Jordan // Pino Paladino", this isn't correct, it's:

Steve Jordan // Pino Paladino // John Mayer

  • @maskone Who is John Mayer? :)

  • @maskone Who is John Mayer? :)

  • John comes in too early on Cissy strut..

small mess up in relation to how awesome this clip is..

  • 26 cats have holes in their souls. Can ya dig it?

  • Pino, I want to have all your babies, kill them and then have some more.

  • JOHN MAYER WE HAVE A FOOL IN THE VILLAGE THAT COULD HELP YOU BEING HUMAN FOR A LITTLE WHILE!

  • nobody in the crowd knew the tune

  • really not trying to be prejudice or racist when I say this but....What does John Mayer know about chicken grease?!? hahahahahahahaha

  • @Jabzeephibee thank you! such a poser.

  • @Jabzeephibee with those funky faces John is making....I'm sure he know's a lil' sum sum....lololol

    BTW he's playing Spanky's (D'Angelo's late guitarist R.I.P) part well :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Jabzeephibee steve jordan told him all about it.

  • @Jabzeephibee he doesn't know anything about chicken grease hence "turkey grease" haha

  • @Jabzeephibee He freakin called it Turkey grease in the intro.

  • @Jabzeephibee He freakin called it Turkey grease in the intro. Agreed......Chicken or turkey!! LOL

  • @Jabzeephibee obviously somethin cause the man got funky on that shit

  • @Jabzeephibee

He said the song was called "Turkey Grease" not "Chicken Grease" numb nuts! So take your "not trying to be prejudice or racist" comments and take a look in the mirror. Who's the racist here? Just wonder'n!

  • @ChaoticEuphoria If I am racist, I am as racist as John Mayer is. He makes "racist" comments and gets a pass and I make one lil joke about him not knowing what chicken grease and you call me a name?!? I know what he said in the intro TEA BAGGER but when I first heard the song it was on D'Angelo's album and it was call Chicken Grease hence me asking what does he know about it!!! either way i thumbed it up and added it to my faves and your effin welcome

  • @Jabzeephibee lol ;-)... Well Pino was the original bass player on this song.. So he has apart of this song wit him

  • @Jabzeephibee Pino must've taught him about chicken grease :)

  • @Jabzeephibee I LOVE FIGHTING NIGGERS!

  • @Jabzeephibee the bass player in this video is d'angelo's former bass player

  • @buckmixon what does it change in the end? Pino knows about chicken grease for sure but Mayer ain't Pino right?

  • i will not take my mouth too full, so i will just say: This is not too bad :o)

  • lol! who the fuck could not like this? there are 24 dislikes for this video. wtf? what 24 retards did that?

  • @lucky7splaysfender50 Bieber fans.

  • 5:37 then the magic happens, Pino kicks in, John Builds up, Steve is just jamming it out!

  • what amp is he using ???

    is that a fender bassman?

  • @GibsonSGlenn dont think so, not too sure, but theyre epiphany cabs

  • @GibsonSGlenn his signature tworock amp

  • @jcm0293 Actually its not his signature. Its a Custom Reverb. This was JM3 so around 05-06 or something and the JM signature series was issued 07. Correct me if I'm wrong!

  • @GibsonSGlenn John Meyer or Pino? Pretty sure Pino is using Epifani cabs with what looks like Ashdown heads. I could be wrong

  • @GibsonSGlenn He's got 2 Two-Rock Custom Signature Reverb Version 1. The Fender isn't a Bassman, i can't remember the name of it, but it's like... a Vibro King'esque amp.

  • @Simto pretty sure one is a Two-Rock Custom Sig, a Dumble Overdrive Special, Western VibroKing, and a Victoria Custom Deluxe Tweed. This is the period where each show he had something else going on back there. He was slowly introducing the Dumble stuff at this point as well as getting his JM Two Rock thing.

  • @atroye You're right, i'm just sure it's not the western vibro he was using during Heavier Things, but that's just nit picking :) he would sound great through a line 6 spider.

  • @Simto haha oh for sure! it might actually be a Vibroverb...

  • @GibsonSGlenn I think it's a Twin Tweed (the same of Eric Clapton...)

  • Same thing happened to me lol

  • Pino's licks in the version of D'Angelo are better, he just keeps it down (but plays with a lot of feeling I must say!)

  • thumbs up if (no offense to pino) but if sharay reed should played bass on dis

  • reversed headstock! saw mayer in london..pino with PSP in germany and steve jordan in a session near NY!

  • great cover of the meters

  • the original has wayyyyy more stank on it!! overrated is what john mayer is

  • @mjjcng8958 overrated? he's more known as a pop singer than a guitar player... and your telling me he's overrated?

he's probably the most underrated guitar player around today. only a few people can understand his talent.

  • @alxlief just my opinion. you should listen to the original song if you already haven't.

  • @alxlief and i guess you are one of the lucky few that can "understand" his talent?

    ok...

  • i jizzed in my pants

  • @mrMonkeyFunk91 No, Pino is a genius, John Mayer Is a great guitarist :)

  • @Druganoff depends on how you see things... but this trio still AWESOME !

  • 4:20 is the definition of perfect musical communication.

  • man he always kills it for me when i he starts to talk.

  • I was looking for some music to hoover my room to and generally tidy. Put this on.

No cleaning has so far been done. Just been sat here with my guitar feeling inspired :D

  • @Joshpy27 that happens to me sooo often

  • These guys are seriously amazing musicians

  • gotta love Cissy Strut from The Meters !

  • Took them a minute and thirty eight seconds to give us a shot of Pino?

  • this is d'angelo's song

  • @gatoradeee Yes it is.

  • 2:59 "C, C minor"

  • aw John Mayer is such a doush and this is such a great song by D'Angelo (a true artist and actually a fantastic vocalist). turkey grease, god damn it...

  • he said turkey grease

  • sick ass bass player sick tune in the middle there

  • Comment removed

  • como odio los videos defasados... pino teeerrible

  • Yo! PSSST! PINO!....psssst...PINO! C minor!

  • Are John and Jack White twins?

  • I just love Pino's headbounces!

  • what kind of bass drum is steve playing?

  • @familytreemusic it's called a yamaha daxdad. yamaha only makes them for steve now. trust me, i've tried to get one.

  • @atroye

thank for the info... it sound wicked!

  • I thought it was cissy strut, or turkey grease john is funny...

  • does he have a reversed jimi strat?

  • @bluntobjct yeah its kinda like that. its not an left handed guitar though, and it doesnt even have a lefty neck, i think it was acutally made to just look likt that. but its really just the shape of the headstock thats upside down. cuz the fender logo on the headstock is still upright and stuff. its pretty sweet. ive never seen one before except the ones that john mayer plays. but yeah...

  • @BronsonTaalbi yeah now that you say so, it's only the headstock, so it's prob a custom guitar.

  • @bluntobjct its just a strat with a reversed headstock...

  • @x89150152 you say it like that is a common thing :p

  • @bluntobjct It is pretty common. you can get them in most good music stores

  • @Simbadwashere90 ah ok, I never saw them before. cheers!

  • Steve has the Cissy groove NAILED. The drums are the most important part of the whole tune.

  • @scottyboy1928 - Steve Jordan has EVERYTHING nailed. The man is supernatural. I'm not a Mayer fan, but I'll give him all the credit in the world for getting Pino and Steve Jordan to play with him. Steve Jordan is a master chameleon that can adapt to any situation.

  • John's good, but god damn pino and steve are incredible

  • @Stefandurr Voodoo* ;)) - but respect for the ear for D'Angelo.

  • how can this have dislikes =0

  • i didn't get the joke at the end

  • ..good thing its supposed to be a cover and not an exact recreation then right..

  • his cissy strut covers always sound like crap.. sound so dry. Doesnt even come close to that New Orleans feel

  • @atl2maryland probably because hes not from new orleans? fuckin a

  • Man, I could jam to this forever. I mean, just try and not to get into it.. <3

  • does anyone know what chord hes playing at 3:51?

  • @dude9521 I think he plays a C Minor add9 chord (C madd9)

  • @QuincyDelanoMusic thats what I thought too. odd voicing hes got going there though

  • haha @ what he says at the end. These chicks dont know D'angelo or the meters.

  • how the fuck can play that guitar lick while talking stuff. im pretty sure john practised a lot infront of the mirror:D

  • funky but sooo much less funk than the original, too bad most the fan's there didn't get the turkey grease joke. good for jm though

  • DRUMS !!!

  • John Mayer may be a bit of a show-off and has all the manneurisms of an annoying celebrity, but he's a great and inspirational guitar player. Anybody doubting that clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • @dixxjamm 2000% agreed....i saw that all the time i think his talent totally outways his mouth
