Well, I raise my hat to both of them, great drivers! And Schumacher with SEVEN championship wins!! He could have even 2 more without Mika. :) they have been the best pair racing againts each others what I've ever seen. I would hope more wins to MIka of course 'cause he's from Finland. Oh my, I want old F1 races back!!
@MrSexyMustang fact huh? So the Benetton was not equal to the McLaren or Williams in 94, or the Ferrari was not on par with the McLaren? Don't spew unless you sort of know what you are talking about.
guys, formula 1 is gone soon after the new millennium... now it's just a metter of money and there are not the drivers of before anymore...I regret of being born in 1994 and of not being able to see the magic battles between Senna, Prost, and all those Gods... PS sorry for my english.
Mika Hakkinen was a better and faster driver than schumacher. It is apparent to anyone that watched them race in equal cars! schumacher career was one of ease and that of perfect cars that never broke! FACT!!!!
@MrSexyMustang hmmm, oh dear another poorly informed Schumacher hater with the same boring story 7 World Championships does not happen by fluke or ease. Watch Spain 1996 and Spa 1995 and youll see just how wrong you are. + form 1996- 1999 and clearly had a lesser car then the others and still won many incredible races but was plagued by bad luck like a broken leg. Also ever see how he started his carrer with a very poor Jordan qualifying 7th on his debut whilst his teammate qualified 11th
When I saw the stories coming out of the 2009 season my first thought was "damn, the cars are ugly, what's with the narrowing?". That and some of the rule changes seem illogical. The backmarkers will be backmarkers, making everyone have V8s doesn't change that.
Shanghai and Middle Eastern countries holding GPs over some the classical circuits bothered me as well. Perhaps the Texas circuit will turn out better than Hockenheim did.
@darthbandon10 schumacher complained at canada 98 saying that people moan at him for manouvres like that and he had a point. also damon hill wasnt fighting with michael in the race or in the title because of the massive difference in the cars. michael had just pitted so was lower in the field. also, damon weaved in the braking zone which is more dangerous as your cant steer the car away from the crash. also, the rule about moving once wasnt a written rule in 98, sort of a drivers promise.
@JamesHol100 Hill was second place there, actually (I can't remember who pitted when admittedly). Yes, there was a performance gap, and I agree it wasn't the best blocking manuver - but as you say, there were no concrete rules on this in 98.
@darthbandon10 yeah schuey just had a 10-second stop-go penatly for dangerous exit on frentzen thats why he was down the field. but his car was much faster than damon's what he did was pointless and dangerous. its like seeing a HRT defending against a red bull. somethings you just have to give up rather than risking retirement or worse. so damon just wasnt fighting michael. alesi and wurz first corner (cant remember if they were ahead or not) hakkinen gearbox, coulthard out got him that position
@darthbandon10 the point is michael wasnt really been hypocritical. he was saying everyone else was been hypocritical. which was true. if you watch the interview with martin brundle about the incident with damon, he highlights weaving from jacques villeneuve at the start of japan 96 (i think) but didnt complain because he also makes those moves...schumacher is a fan of though racing, wheel to wheel action, going to the limit. but he didnt like been picked on for that when everyone did it
@JamesHol100 The problem is should someone get punted off as a result, it suggests that whoever instigated the move can't genuinely outrace someone. Hence the flak over the 94 and 97 title deciding collisions.
That said the ten place grid penalty for Hungary 2010 was harsh - personally I would have said put 10 seconds on his finish time and call it even (at most).
@darthbandon10 but senna took prost of not just delibrately but planned to in 1990. that was more dangerous than anything schumacher did because senna and prost were going so much faster. you will argue that a suzuka there is more run-off aera perhaps but cars can easily roll in the gravel. with hungary, f1 is becoming much softer. gerhard berger said that what schumacher did was common in the 80/90s. look at senna and prost at estoril 1988
@JamesHol100 Now? Nobody in particular to be honest. I used to be a big fan of Damon Hill and respected Schumacher's remarkable talent (despite his occasional rash moves). Hakkinen was pretty good during his championship years. After that I started to lose interest because of the Schu\Ferrari domination of the sport (and not having the time to watch whole races).
@darthbandon10 michael is my favourite driver, force india is my team though. shame, formula 1 is more interesting now than for years. we have schuey back (but needs the car), alonso (one of the greatest double champs of all time), hamilton (one of the greatest if not the best overtaker of all time), jenson button with his smooth style, sebastian vettel for shear speed, its brilliant :)
i remember this move...what an absolute stunner it was...made racing history with schumi taking the backrunner from one side and mika on the other side.. do u remmber what year/race this was? also, was it pedro de la rosa in the middle of this?
@23pair how did it make history? it certainly wasn't the first time it had ever been done, back in the 'old days' when formula 1 was exciting it would happen quite often.
An unforgettable overtake

Schumacher looked like he was weaving there at 0:30, the same complaint he made about Hill at the 98 Canadian GP..hypocrisy anyone?
darthbandon10 1 year ago
@darthbandon10 schumacher should've gone into rug making after f1 with all the weaving practice he had in his f1 years, an horrendous cheat.

@JamesHol100 Well the Jordan's electrical system failed, so it was all a bit academic in the end anyway. Yes, the McLarens were out before that.
