I don't think he's a bust. IMO he's a defensive end best suited in a 4-3 one gap penetrating scheme. He needs to be attacking upfield, not thinking. Put him at that RDE spot like Dwight Freeney or John Abraham. And let him utilize his athleticism. JMO.
ur comment is silly. the situation is totally different. abraham went from linebacker to de and was in a 4-3. and vernon is supposed to go from a de to a olb in a 3-4 two totally different def's and two totoally different positions to adapt too. its easyer to go from LB to de since when your moved to de you dont have to worry about all the empty space a olb has to do. plus a 43 gives the d-line of help having four guys up front. and allows the DE's to get passed the OT's, like he did in college

ur comment is silly. the situation is totally different. abraham went from linebacker to de and was in a 4-3. and vernon is supposed to go from a de to a olb in a 3-4 two totally different def's and two totoally different positions to adapt too. its easyer to go from LB to de since when your moved to de you dont have to worry about all the empty space a olb has to do. plus a 43 gives the d-line of help having four guys up front. and allows the DE's to get passed the OT's, like he did in college

i agree 100%!! no one on here realizes that one simple fact that this guy is a pass rusher not a fcuking 3-4 olb. he needs to get after the qb and not worry about the c gap he now has to cover while worrying about the RB or wideout crossing his path on the field. alot of his college career the guy has been in a 3 point stance! hes not used to even being in that much open space that a 3-4 has. if he was olb in a 4-3 it would be different but not alot of ppl realize how hard a 3-4 def is to learn.

The reason he is not as good as everyone thought in his first year was because he has to transition from being on the Ohio state system (that sucks by the way) to an actual good sytem. And getting good numbers at the combine does not mean shit on the field. He needs to step it up, their are no easy schedules like the one Ohio state gets every year. Ohio state is the most overrated team in NCAA football. Im not saying bust yet but close to it, he was way to over-hyped at the combine.

Don't give me that crap, then why did he draft him? Woodley had to do the same thing when he came out of Michigan(4-3defense) and STILL had 4 sacks and he was a backup and didn't play until the end of the season.

did woodley play linebacker in college? if he did then it would make sense he would have an easier time playing his NATURAL position vernon was ment to play DE, not OLB. They are two different postions and alot of you guys who leave these comment dont realize this. OLB's are resposible for alot more then DE's are making it harder for some players to adjust. Its like taking a WR and making him play RB. It would take that WR some time to get the idea of running blocking and passing blocking down.

No, Woodley played DE at Michigan. He said it himself that his first year he had to learn to cover WR and rush the QB, but that was no excuse for woodley he still had 4 sacks playing backup.

mario williams got 5 sacks and 50 tackles in his first year, gholston got 5 solo tackles.
if he is to become a good player, which he might, he's still definitely a bust.
not worth the sixth overall pick if you cant even make it to the starting lineup, and struggle on special teams. if you have to wait 4 years for a 6th overall pick to develop into a guy that can make the team, thats a bust. his teammates call him "jane" as opposed to tarzan. he knows himself that he sucks and has admitted it.

anyone who knows anything about the pro game knows that a rookie at any position has a rare shot at starting unless the team is really weak at that position. being a jet season ticket holder we were never expecting anything from vernon except hard work and improvement which is what he is giving us every day, next yr. he'll really start to shine. the game at the pro level is insane.

Jets need to relax with the X's and O's in the Classroom and just let VG do his thing. He has the potential to be the next LT without the Cocaine use ,if jets just turn him loose. VG isnt to big on playbook ,his thing is same game plan " Kill the QB or who ever has the ball behind the line of scrimage. Gastineau broke the NFL record for sacks with 22 in a season until pansy ass Strahan got it handed to him... and Gastineau was a complete lazy ass, He'd take plays off all the time to rest up for his next sack attempt, there where times where he wouldn't tackle a running back just to save his energy to just get the next sack, so sack output has nothing to do with how are you play on the field as an indiviual
