I loved this video!!!! Thank you so much for sharing it. It made me cry. I love Michelle Kwan and would have loved to have seen her take the gold. I am sad that she has retired from the sport. Thanks again.
ok so i know some skaters are going to be watching this so i have a question.....
when you do all of those turns how do you not get dizzy cuz im in dance and we have to spot and it never looks like you guys are spoting? so how do you do it?
I guess they keep really focus Im a dancer as well and I have to spot, and i would also imagine they would have to spot. I guess you'll have to ask a pro.
i'm not a skater, but i do know quite a bit about it! ;) apparently, after a while they get used to it, the spinning i mean. they still get dizzy though, they just know how to recover quicker because they are used to it. and no, skaters don't spot when they spin like dancers do. some just look straight but most skaters close their eyes when they spin...
@MrBuTtErMiLkBiScUiT i find it really easy to close your eyes, especially during a jump. It just feels natural to do it. But it's kinda hard for me to jump doubles without closing my eyes
@herm712 the reason skates dont spot is because it can slow down your spin. its easier to just look straight forward and learn to deal with being dizzy. also, i dont know many skaters who close their eyes because that makes you lose your balance and/or get more dizzy.
@lrnfigrsk8r965 agreed about the looking straight thing. there's one skater, a male skater, who actually spots his head when he jumps...can't think of his name right now. and as for closing your eyes during a spin, many of the elite ladies do. just look at pictures of Mao, Yu-Na, Mirai, etc.; especially in layback and sit spins, they close their eyes. In their Biellman's they keep their eyes open though...
i am a figure skater. and i dont know what spot is so i am not sure if it is something we use haha sorry, some people focus on one area, my friend closes her eyes and well i just dont really feel it i just go with it. i dont really have to do anything to stay up and not fall. i hope this helps :)
yeah thanks and spot or spotting is when you try and always face front so as you turn you'll whip your head around so its always facing front thats the best i can explain it but you can most likely find a video on it on youtube!
@MrBuTtErMiLkBiScUiT skaters don't spot since they are usually spinning so fast. And like Irnfigrsk8r965 said, it can slow down the spin. The trick is to center the spin correctly.
wow! man, I envy you! I had the wonderful pleasure of seeing her skate twice in Atlanta during her years on Champions on Ice...she really is the most captivating skater ever.
Understandable. Sasha's style differs greatly from Michelle's and is very beautiful and balletic. Both are amazing skaters, but to me, no one has more passion and emotion when they than Michelle. No other skater in history has touched as many people as Michelle has even to this day, she's still inspiring those who are leading the way. World champions Evan Lysacek and Yu-Na Kim for example; both of them see Michelle as a role model. To each his own...you like Sasha but I LOVE Michelle! ;)
Shes's amazing. im an ice skater as well, and i look up to her as a role model. and if you see a fall, so what? it happens, but thats y u get right back up and try again. sometimes ur gonna do badly on a solo but so what? how else r u supposed to learn? U GO MICHELLE!!!!
see i dance so what i want to know is when u fall how do u get up so fast cuz i have been ice skating before and i fell once and it hurt so i kinda just laid there but you guys just hop right up!
ok wow...this gave me chills..lol. I love Michelle and you did an absolutely amazing job on this! like seriously!! wow. your clips with the passion and intensity of the music is just...perfect!
Thank you so much! That was the reaction I was looking for! :) I worked really hard on this. The last 12-15 seconds (all of the flashing clips) took like 4 hours! But I was really happy with the result. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The only one capable of bringing down the Ice Queen, Yu-Na Kim. On a friendly level of course. Michelle kills the ice.
