Plus, the Governor of Louisiana wasted precious time before asking for federal aid after the mess got tougher for them. Haiti's government didn't waste any time in asking for US help. That's the difference.

There was a major difference between Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti: The citizens of New Orleans HAD A WARNING. They were told to evacuate because a category 5 hurricane was heading their way. Yet, many of those capable of leaving chose to stay.

On the other hand, the Haitians had no clue a catastrophic earthquake would devastate their homes and community this week. Thus, I'm no sure you can really compare the two tragedies.
