@Antzarctica At 3:45, why is ice melting when its winter? Also, could you post months according to the video time? I cant figure just by watching as I am from Asia and its always summer here :p.
@acerb45666555 Depends where you are. Up on the peninsula below South America there is grass in some areas. There are a few lichens where we are, pretty much nothing further south.
@acerb45666555 The extreme conditions make Antarctica a habitat in which only the hardiest can survive. Very few species have been recorded on the 2% of the continent that is ice-free. They include about 150 lichens, 30 mosses, some fungi and one liverwort.:D

Why is there a Mother Mary statue? Why bring religion to Antarctica, for God's sake? Are you only allowed to go to Antarctica if you're Christian? -_-
@repaeu It is a memorial marker to a man who died there when his bulldozer fell through the ice, his body was never recovered. He was a Christian. Do you find it offensive he has a Christian marker?
@Antzarctica Didn't realise it was a memorial marker, my apologies. I would have found it offensive if it was there just for religion's sake, as if Christianity somehow owned the continent. That's terrible what happened though, was that ever reported in the news? That's my first time hearing about it, and you'd think at least American news broadcasters would want the story.
@repaeu Mother Mary isn't just in Critiananity im Catholic I beileve in her so stop being all ''Chritian that'' and ''christan this'' About Virgin Mary ok? Jeez!
@repaeu Are you only allowed in Antarctica if you`re not a Christian ? I`ll wager if you`d seen practically anything else there, you would have hardly noticed it. People are allowed to be religious, you fucking Prick !
@Antzarctica by the way i was hoping if you could tell me how to get there if you could that would be worderful. Also is there any jobs that help you travel around the world thanks
@Pacman117productions Basically if you want to be employed in Antarctica you need to get a job with your home country government, or be legally able to work in the home country of the base you are interested in.
For folks in the UK google British Antarctic Survey Jobs, in the US google USAP jobs. Travel is typically provided for you.
i'm interested in staying in antartica for a while. i am still an undergraduate. can you suggest any courses in university i should take which can get me a job there?
@complicatedjason You are much more likely to get a job there as a tradesperson (electrician mechanic etc), but in research fields there are all sorts, and you pretty much need to attach yourself to a project. Google UASP NSF to see what types of things are going on.
Wonderful video! I served in McMurdo Station, Antarctica last year (SEP - NOV 2010) and it was amazing...so were the people there. Your video really captures the place with the shots of the Galley, dorms, the sun moving sideways across the sky...the frozen ocean...the planes landing on ice runway...Ob hill, the buildings of McMurdo, but I didn't see the Chapel of the Snows in your video...your music is great . Makes me so remember being there, and how special it was. Thank you.

wow what a beautiful place it seems practically like an entire continent uninhabited and the aurora borealice if I spelled that right has to be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen
@10Residentevilfan Antarctica is a uninhabited continent. I believe the Southern Lights are Aurora Australis and the Northern Lights are Aurora Borealis.
such a beautiful place that virtually no one ever sees. imagine all the incredible sun sets and rises or cloud formations, color strewn ice and snow formations and only god views them century after century.
@SurfSkateJerk Not very often this far south, normally it is too cold to snow, low air temps mean no moisture in the air to make snow with most of the time.
Any nation with sufficient vision to develop technologies such as Culture Meat and vat grown foods in general, would be well in a position to claim the resources of all of Antarctica, plant it's flag, stake it's claim, and establish outposts and archologies across the frozen continent.
Also I found quite by accident that "December" by Static-X makes a nice alternate soundtrack for this video. Gives it a distinctly different feel. Give the music about a six second head start and things sync up quite nicely.
@Antarctica Love your work . Keep up the good work Antzarctica. With the talent of smart people like you, and advancements of climate insulating technology, I feel the majority of humanity will be able to live Antarctica some day.

@okuma0kuma No, but then again Antarctica is not a country and has no government, so it would not be illegal for anyone to be there if they wanted to.
@Antzarctica Haha, good luck to them though if they did go there. That place doesn't look too inviting haha. Beautiful, in a Poisonous Frog kind of way.
@okuma0kuma Most of the people who live in Antarctica work for the government of the United States, other countries or some university. Therefore the laws that apply in their own countries also apply in the government lands that are claimed in Antarctica. I have not been there but I do know a lot about the land surrounding the south pole. Believe me you would not to go to Antarctica alone. or without the help of a professional organized science team. At 120 below zero noone survives unprotected
Generally, what sort of characteristics would those in charge of hiring people for the United States Antarctic Program look for (in common with all employment opportunities)? Also, is there an unimaginable amount of competition for these jobs? Thanks. :D
@Feedmadcat Competent and healthy, and yes, lots of competition for a lot of the jobs, but occasionally they have trouble finding people with certain trade skills, as there are often better paying jobs elsewhere.
@Feedmadcat I spent a Winter in Antarctica a few years back at Scott Base which is only a few miles from the American base at McMurdo (the American crew loved our bar lol), They are after people with trades to run the place do maintenance etc, In summer they are also after people who have aircraft cargo handling experiance, The American and New Zealand Antarctic program is run out of Christchurch New Zealand, Flights to the ice vary from 6 hours to 10 hours depending on the Aircraft you are on
@BoomerMcnasty no, it's not. Summertime there is OUR winter, so the sun is up all the time. Remember, the seasons are reversed there! :) So, yes, during OUR Summer ,it is winter there, hence, it is dark all the time!
@westheless04 ya thats what i though...just weird wording. Im in alaska and my summer (june-aug) is a lot of sun. The sunny time you showed was like (dec-feb) right?
Are "nacreous" clouds the same as noctilucent clouds? You show some of the best cloud formations, lots of orographic effects going on there!
Second question: what types of camera equipment have you worn out, and how long does it take? Is the cold contributing to the wear and tear? I use a Canon 5D for my time-lapses, see my page.
@ansonchappell I have several SLRs, but mostly use the 5D2 now. I have worn out a 20D, XSi, and a number of small ones. Check out the "timescapes forum" for lots of time lapse info and helpful people.
Maximum temperature in there when ot's summer: -5°C

Therefore the laws that apply in their own countries also apply in the government lands that are claimed in Antarctica. I have not been there but I do know a lot about the land surrounding the south pole. Believe me you would not to go to Antarctica alone. or without the help of a professional organized science team. At 120 below zero noone survives unprotected

Generally, what sort of characteristics would those in charge of hiring people for the United States Antarctic Program look for (in common with all employment opportunities)? Also, is there an unimaginable amount of competition for these jobs? Thanks. :D
Feedmadcat 1 year ago

I worked there 54 weeks in 1993-94. This is as nice and neat a depiction as I have seen.

shouldnt it be dark almost all summer in Antarctica?
BoomerMcnasty 1 year ago

Beautiful work, will stay tuned.
ansonchappell 1 year ago
@ansonchappell I have several SLRs, but mostly use the 5D2 now. I have worn out a 20D, XSi, and a number of small ones. Check out the "timescapes forum" for lots of time lapse info and helpful people.
Antzarctica 1 year ago
@ansonchappell and no, nacreous or PSC clouds are different, much higher altitude and only at (mostly) southern polar regions.
