  • Someone mentioned a 5gig cap to me.. sounds ridiculous. I think I read the average household usage is around 30gigs? I know I used around 100gigs last month, but I was also reinstalling everything from reformatting. Redownloading my music, programs, and games LEGALLY. lol, I don't remember when I last bought a physical game or cd.

Thank God Comcast has 250gig cap. If they ever drop it, I'm screwed.

  • let google take over the internet and provide internet. Screw isps they are thinking of doing that to my internet and it would kill me cause i can't afford tv or anything else

  • pay as you go is a horrible idea....how does it help the end user? it's just a way for isp's to make more money.

  • 7 minutes in "well I have probably wasted 3-4 minutes of your life" Hahahaha

  • wow that sucks I thought most people had 30mbps download 5mbps upload cable connection for about $53.00 a month.. Guess I have been lucky love my ISP we been together with no caps, no throttling, same speed since 2005

  • 500mb half a GB im disapointed in this nerd... 521MB is half a GB thumps up bitch!!

  • thats said 8**(

  • I have 5 mbps down and 1 mbps up speed, i dont think my area has a cap because in the last 24 hours I've downloaded over 20 gigabytes of stuff.

  • Unless your internet connection is a part of a free bundle, or part of a cheap TV or mobile phone package, U.K. ISPs rarely impose caps.

The problem with U.K. internet connections is that British Telecom own a completely monopoly on the countries copper telephone network, and unless you pay for a super-expensive fibre optic connection, then you've got to use the shitty copper connection, that British Telecom never maintain properly, and rarely bother to upgrade (since they own the monopoly).

  • I'm on 60kbps, but although I have no download limit, my connection constantly loses packets and always has a terrible ping.

Only one internet provider offers a broadband connection in my area. And they are charging me a rip off price for the speed and quality of connection.

  • im on 30kbps and my downloadlimit is like 400mb per month.....

  • I would lose everything if they do that, I have 4 laptops going daily....well i could forget that...OMG

  • charter communications is the worst!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am paying for 5mbs and getting barley1!!!!!!!!!!

  • Verizon FiOS FTW!

  • @cugocat12 They are proposing caps also...

  • My isp dsl is talking about 5 gb cap 1.00 a gigabyte. Some people dont even know what a gigabyte is.

  • Nice work. keep it up. mean time come for social media marketing for esteembpo**com FHBGKIDF

  • I have both home broadband and Mobile broadband I like the actual homebroadband that I use although it goes dow sometimes but I look até the filter plug on my phone plug and I read ADSL filter, so I really dont know any more but as I was saying I have both, the 3G mobile broadband , and the landline broadband, and I realise that the mobile is very slow and expensive

  • It would be like a web host where you get monthly bandwidth.

  • I just wanted to tell u about my internet connection, my nternet here is overpriced for super slow speeds. i used to have 128 kbps for around $70. i know! and that was way to slow so i upgraded to 512 kbps, but it is shared with around 10 people so i get around 256 when i do a speed test. the cost is around about $100 and unlimited. my friends in australia get 1 mbps unlimited for AUS $ 60.

  • Someone mentioned this happening in Canada in my chat room yesterday. I will be making a video on this topic and posting as a video response :)

  • Windstream FTW!

  • Terrible idea. The days of pay as you go internet happened to Gen X and earlier back in the very early '90s when HTML was standard. Now we have evolved beyond that and into the era where megabytes are standard, and just watching this vid probably easily maxed out 500 mb/ day that the writer of the email is allowed.

  • Chris, 3 months later and Time Warner Cable is deciding to impose internet capping. ATT is also thinking about imposing internet caps and I am now wishing Verizon was in my area. This is not good for Internet creativity, and video sharing.

  • 3 pay as you go broadband.

    total fucking rip off.

  • Can't say I have had many problems. Been on BT Broadband ADSL for a while now, which started at 1MB/s with about 30GB a month it then went up to 2MB/s and now it goes up to it's maximum possible of 8MB/s unlimited although most the time we only get around 3MB/s, highest it has been is 4, plus my dad works for BT so the discount is pretty sweet.

Used to be on Virgin back with my ex. I probably preferred that to BT, cable seems a bit faster than ADSL.

  • BAD :(

  • I already get a 40 gig download limit per month I am in the United Kingdom, Virgin offers fibre optic broadband and all our infrastructure is being replaced so in five years we will be getting a 20mb download speed will be the norm and cheap without caps the US needs to get its act together fast! after all it invented the the internet for godsake!

  • For generation Y it is a really bad idea. REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD!!!!!!!! World of Warcraft for those who play it, is dead on that one.

  • I think time warner cable is pretty good but verizon is better!

  • what a homo you talk about computers on a friday night u should go to the movies with ur wife :)

  • What wife? ROFL

  • HDTVA, Chris Pirillo has a wife...

  • i got verizon Fios "D Fiber optics :D

  • my friend studies there.

  • OHH!

  • no screw that i get 20Gb of transfer a month and 1meg performance for about 30$

  • 500mb a day!?

    I have.... 500mb a month $2 NZ for another 500 though :p auto update

  • hell F-u_c123king no

  • I think we will immediately switch to Verizon. Right now, we have a decent connection.

Right now, our connection is pretty good. If there's a cap, we haven't reached it yet, even though we are on the internet almost all day.

I suspect it will be in different packages. And the limited version is to attract the occasional users off of dial-up.

  • we have good broadband

    be jealous :)

  • Lol, u lost ur right leg? dang....

  • i can only have 99 terabites

  • wow... i watch like 100 youtube videos while downloading tons of stuff.... i use about 5gb a day....

  • koreas broadband is superb. although I'm not korean. but they are really good.

  • I got 20mbit, 2000kbit/s, for 20 euros :) No datalimit... Broadband is cheap and fast here in the Netherlands :)

  • in batavia i get 10mp/s down and aobut 300kb up(we neeed to pay for for more upload)

but i dont really use uploading exept for youtube :)

  • I got BT Total broadband here in uk. Up to 8gb download and 400 kbps upload with unlimited usage and no cap :). Life is good :)

  • i pay 20 euros for 320 kb/s down and 40 up

with no datalimed no far policy

  • 45$ for a 20/6 from FiOS, pretty satisfied so far.

  • I pay $20.00 a month for 7889 mbps! HAS NEVER GOINE OUT!

  • im gettin 54mbps

    is that goood?

  • Yea that's relatively fast for G, or if you're wired then yes, it's fast.

  • for me its all right

i have it and its kind of fast

  • No sorry. My one is 20gb.

  • Capping would DESTROY the internet, especially for me...

  • Chris, I have Hughes as well. I also have the 500MB cap. Did you know we pay $100.00 a month for that? Yea. I cant watch your stream! Or i get FAP'd Fair Access Policy! I hate Hughes Net!

  • Pay as you go is a horrible idea. Vetoed.

  • COMCAST FTL

seriously what are they thinking?!? they will LOSE so much money trying to force this thing, but they will package it up and make it look pretty....fucking traffic shaping, privacy invading bastards.......i miss my RoadRunner through Time Warner Cable....at least they didnt traffic shape.....

  • They'll do it. I'll bet on it! So they can offer you unlimited traffic for a "extra" fee.

I pay 35 euros for a 16mbit connection with a 50gb cap per month. But i can have unlimited downloads for an extra 7.50€ a month...

  • i have tampabay.rr and it sucks

  • My old isp was bad, I signed up to 8mbps though speedtest gave me less then 100kbps in the day times, and all they told me was that it was a problem at my end each time, while charging me on the phone £1/1min for there rubbish service.

  • I WILL MOVE TO CANADA WHEN THIS HAPPENS! I bet i have moved about 20gb of data today this is not going to be good!

  • Who is coming up with this crap? With technology and the internet advancing constantly, why move backwards by putting caps and restrictions on everything? It's a horrible idea...ain't gonna happen.

  • Thats ridiculious!!! even his dogs know its a retarded idea!

  • Thats ridiculious!!! even his dogs know its a retarded idea!

  • RIOT!!!!!!!!

  • if that will be in effect, people would use internet less and some will shut it down.

  • We subscribe to a premium DSL connection and pay extra, for about $80 a month, we get guaranteed 10mbit for gaming. I also run a P2P client 24-7 and have no problems with unstable bandwidth, or interruption in service. I run a speed test regularly, since our old Cable ISP slowly multiplexed out bandwidth down from 5mbit to around 1.5mbit over the course of 5 years. DSL is definitely better in this case.

  • I dont care, bigger problems in the world

  • "wirelesses mobile phones" XD

  • i use eircom 1mb here in dublin.u think 500mb a day is bad. i have a 10gb a month limit. and get this. a 1gb upload limit. and its 1cent for evry mb over the limits. thats €10 a GB.

  • a couple words "Hell No" :)

  • I don't think so. I use a lot, game server and my uploads my website as well as youtube.I also download lots of podcasts and big files like games and FoF songs/mods. Too much for us to afford.

  • I love Fios! :D For once I have something that chris dosent!

  • Bad Idea!!!

N way would i accept that.....I use probably over 10 gigs of internet a day lol

I currently use DSL with AT&T and to be honest it is pretty good. Customer service is good and speed is just fine for me. Of course I would not mind having an even faster connection but i am happy with what I got for now.

  • Pay as you go internet=TERRIBLE!

  • I know nothing about internet services or any internet terms such as 'capped' or bandwidth. I know i probably sound stupid :P All I know is that I have verizon fios and it's fast, even wireless (which is what I mainly use.)

  • its bad. my friend told me our goverment is trying to make us pay for internet by the minute. however if your like me im on all the time. and you are. plus if i have to pay for each transaction. i wouldnt last a day before i go broke. the i wouldnt be able to stay intouch with me friends. plus it would slow down my computer even more. i do live stream, reasearch, phone calls, make and watch videos, get advice with product help, share pictures, ideas colabs come together and so much more. peace. gregg

  • People in some parts of Sweden can get 1 GIGABIT down / 100 MEGABITS up for around $160/month. Wow.

My 20 MBit/20 MBit FiOS line is great though. :)

  • I heard some country's governments pay for their high speed internet access. Then again that might not be a good thing lol.

  • wow i've heard of pay as you go phones

    but not internet

  • they have pay as you go internet in russia

  • my broadband comes from Roadrunner/Time Warner

  • how do u find out how much bandwidth you get?

  • lol the add i got on the top right is for sat

  • That is the dumbest idea in the world. I didn't even know companies controlled how much you downloaded. That shit is damaging. People live on the internet and doing that would kill the little freedom that WE as american could have less

  • i got good broadband =)

  • Those who say will pay twice for bandwidth is what the companies are feeding from...

  • im with bt (u.k.) i pay for 8mbs but i only get 700kbs i have unlimited downloads but i downloaded 88gbs in a month and my speed got capped to 250kbs my dad went mad :)

  • I have 8mbit and get about 5 at max.

0.5 gig per day is SO LAME. I couldn't live on it.

  • I have 8mbit and get about 5 at max.

0.5 gig per day is SO LAME. I couldn't live on it.

  • bad idea, my data costs will be through the roof!

  • Bad Idea to cap

  • I used to have unlimited ban with :D

    now i have 30gig per month D:

  • i probly go over 1GB in 1 hour....

  • 1/2 GB a day sucks. If you download a few things that day like the new version of open office, Java, watch a few youtube videos (especially those 1 hour seminar videos), and that's it, you're over.

A Linux distro is anywhere from 650MB to 4+GB.

  • I have ADSL 8MB at £120/$240 a year! I didn't think it was that bad in the US!!!

  • :O I've got 20MB ADSL for 549NOK, about $100 at the current rates, in norway. It's even better in Sweeden thought ..

  • Every night before I go to bed, I start my long downloads going. Last night alone. I downloaded 5 gig worth of info. With a cap like that. I wouldn't be able to do anything online. It would take me weeks to download anything of use. But I think if this goes into effect, it will pring up a whole new era of cyber crimes. Infornation should be free. Internet should be cheap and for everyone. Not just those who can pay a shit load to get it.

  • @ live pirillo com (OH) will e ya later

  • "Sorry, I was just wasting your bandwidth there." rofl!

  • dog must be upset about braudband internet too

  • i pay €200 for one year unlimited

  • Virgin have a 20mb cable package which is pricey and cable is only available to 50% of the country. Be do a 24mb ADSL2+ package which is cheap but not available to everyone. The entire ISP industry in the UK is changing so hold on tight. One great thing though is nearly the entire country gets broadband as we have a huge persons/mile here.

  • imagine torrents...

  • i have 2mb from orange they go up to 8mg and the most i have seen 16mb off sky .....im in uk

  • Us in the UK are getting screwed for broadband as well. Most of us can only go upto about 8mb, and the people in the cities about 24mb. BT and Virgin just will not pull their finger out their ass and sort it out.

  • 02:05 LOL!

  • LOL Oh well e-ya later

  • i live in Malaysia. Highest speed is 4MBPS (i know its ****ing slow) @ RM268 a month(do your maths pls) & UNLIMITED USAGE. Do the maths yo... :D I normally download over 100GB a month. ahhhh :P

  • I got ADSL with Bell I get 60Gb for 50$ Canadian a month and when I go overboard it 1.50$ a Gb. But the fun part is it also cap to 30$ overcharge. Anything over 75GB is free so if I know am busting both and it happening every 3 or 4 month I bust it good!!! Really good lollll The other funny part is that every Canadian provider advertise their product has unlimited and not all of them really offer it. So we may have some room for a class action lawsuit!

  • I live in canada and i have rogers high speed internet. IT uses a second cable line dedicated to only the internet. There is no download cap yet, but i heard some talk about possibly doing that. So far i have used rogers for over 5 years and it is the best internet service i have ever had. They even gave us a complimentary modem when new costumers got a newer one. Great service.

  • i have a cable modem with optimum online and my connection is very fast and stable, no complaints

  • my connection sucks too. i always leave my downloads untill i go to my universities library. its a dedicated fiber optic line and the only thing that slows it down is the speed of the ethernet connection. its crazy to see things travel at 128mbps

  • Go to Japan or Korea, you'll be surprised. Here in Korea that speed is about standard. It's crazy!

  • Jeez, Chris, you're the best. I'd seriously go over the 500mb/d cap in about, like, 2 hours maybe? So, yeah, screw that idea.

  • NO way No Frecken Way 500mg what the hell now why Comcast would make me use dial up .

    I Would go after blood......

  • Holy Christ on a fuckin cracker....

Comcast has lost thier minds, first they start watching what you are doing and now they want to charge you per Mb?!?! they have lost their minds.....i miss my Time Warner....*cry*

  • my whole house can only use 20 terabites a day or else i gota pay for the inyernet

  • now that would be a good deal

  • I've changed my Broadband service from unlimited Tiscali to limited with Talktalk, 40gb a month. However, I'm able to buy extra broadband usage if I go over. £10/$20 per 20gb, and at least the first 40gb is free. I've also changed my telephone provider and are now with Talktalk. My monthly outgoings were £62/$124 and has now dropped to £16/$32 possible going to £30/$60 depending on my internet usage and phone requirements....I'll soon find out if it is as good as it promises to be!

  • I get 15GB shared between two people per month. $40AUD a month. But my ISP has this fucked up idea of slowing your internet speed down by half if you use 80% of your bandwidth allocation and then slowing it down by half again if you use 100% of your bandwidth. Fair enough slowing it down once you reach your limit. But starting to slow it down if your getting close to your limit sucks big time. Stupid idea.

  • I would be paying $100,000.00 A Month

  • Poor Bastard

  • if there is demand.. then what stops them from suppying??? if this cap thing is goin to be a big problem then afcourse there will be huge compnies entering the market..bcos that would create a free market right??

  • I get 25GB of bandwidth with Telstra and it costs $110 AUD($100) a month grrr, then again, I ahve the fastest speed in our area

  • My current ISP gives me a 20GB a month cap, and a average d/l speed of 14534kb/s, and u/l speed of 631kb/s.

500mb is realllllyy cruel, i easily push 500mb every 1-2 days.

but as someone said, satellites are expensive to launch and maintain...and their bandwidth is limited.

  • That would cause chaos, 500mb quota...thats cruel.

  • Imagine a world without Internet... wait... I cant...

  • dsl = no bandwitch for me i can use the internet non stop ..

  • 500mb per day is ludicrous, but you have to understand that satellite bandwidth is extremely finite, that is theres only so much bandwidth before you need another satellite. Satellites aren't cheap to launch OR service.

  • I get 10G for an entire month, and that is shared between 4 people 2.5G for and entire month each. after its gone we have dialup for the rest of the month.

  • that really sucks for you.

  • damn straight it sucks baaaaaad, a can't download anything

  • bad...my bill would be huge

  • Wicket, you always say "That's Comcastic!"

  • I realy think internet should be freeeee....

  • tell me about it :)

  • me too, i mean, not to be greedy in any other way. But our whole world basicly works on internet.

  • GOD thats a bad thing 500MB cap you would not be able to download the updates for windows

  • first

  • No CAP! =) I have Sonic DSL which is popular and a growing company in California. I had comcast and I can't tell the difference and I get the same speeds and some times FASTER!for $15 LESS! great company no problems! would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a GREAT ISP.

  • wicket was pissed.. holy crap, stay outta his way..

  • I thought that I was bad, with a 50GB limit...ouch

  • I thought that I was bad, with a 50GB limit...ouch

  • HORRIBLE idea, I hate caps, and pay as you go isn't a good idea for anyone that uses more then email.

  • My internet's capped at 100gb total though it reliable and i get a constant 9mb download and 3mb upload. The only problem is when u take a "low class" internet u get capped at 10 gb witch sometimes can be a big problem if u download alot.

  • :D Go Chris

  • :) i have road runner time warner!

  • Poor you. I think they were one of the few ISPs that monitor downloads.
