  • Sweet legend...I love it

  • I heard this song once on a tv show a few years back- heard it in the background and had to find out who sang it. I'm not sure how, but I did, and thank goodness for that. It's been a favorite ever since.

  • woah!!! adverts before the video!

  • @adifferentbrand Is there a way I can turn that shit off ?

  • wow! thanks for uploading the video to this amazing song, I've seen it before (but it's been a few years) what a triumph. I lived in Belfast and the sectarian geograpghy determined where I could or shouldn't walk, I fell foul of it a few times, Albert Bridge especially, when I was heading home, east. Great song, great video, great upload, thank you so much :) xx

  • I awoke so cold and lonely

    In a faraway place

The sun fell cold upon my face

The cracks in the ceiling spelt hell

    Turned to the wall

Pulled the sheets around my head

Tried to sleep, and dream my way

    Back to you again

best lines ever. besides, any song with a hurdy gurdy is alright in my book.

  • brings a tear to me jaundice eye

  • Could be the greatest ever Pogues song and that`s saying something

  • probably the best song ever written about London

'I dreamt we were standing by the banks of the Thames'

  • soaring heroism, high romance, tragedy...

    must be ireland!

    must be love!

  • @Hannahcannae

must be a song about london....

  • get so caught up in finale, actually didn't notice the way he just turns from the mike when he's done. takes a seat on the stage.

    he's pure class

  • How beautiful! Ireland rules!

  • I love the Pogues ! Thanks for this, one of my favorites. Sure and it always makes me a wee bit sad.

  • ANASTAZIJA I LOVE YOU ! <3

  • This one wasn't written by Shane. Still a great song though.

  • drown me in the Pogues

  • Atta boy Chris....

  • one of best song ever ...

  • My favorite Pogues song

  • Alice, this is for you

  • My favourite, counting down 'till monday 11/7/11 when I'll be seeing them again after 9 years...

  • My favourite Shane song, together with A Rainy NIght In Soho.

  • Just magic.Genius of a man for sure

  • I love A. H. from tampere forever

  • Perfection

  • @TheGreatSam1992 agree and hav for 3years now unbelievable

  • best song from them fukn outstandin

  • @TheGreatSam1992 Jem Finer, the band's banjo player, wrote this one all by hinself.

  • @TheGreatSam1992 Jem Finer (banjo player) wrote this one all by himself.

  • come see the bogus pogues...ultimate pogues tribute act perform paddys night in Kellys galway, tess burkes borrisokane sat 26th mar and at o'keeffees clonmel on april 1st...misty morning and all the favourites

  • I've an oul' uncle over in London, he's f****ed now, in an 'oul flat, no chance of comin' home really. Drink an' all. Every time I hear this song I think of him - for he was a great man in his day. He's still a hero to me.

  • The Mother of all Songs........................

  • Die Mutter aller Lieder................

  • This song is one of my favourites from the Pogues, its a perfect blend of Jem Finers lyrics and Shanes voice. Like so many of the Pogues songs it really makes you feel like you become part of the piece, what other band can write songs that almost every person can relate to a usually moving or somehow changing life experience? In 100 years people in Ireland will still be singing Shanes music, what other artist, including Bono could you say that about?

  • @Hokowhitu76

Who said that at the end again. Christy Moore was it.

  • I think the pogues were starting to lose it at this point but this is such a beautiful song. Really reminds you of missing loved ones x

  • Great track by Jem...

  • Shivers down my spine everytime. Shane you legend. Thank you.

  • it makes the hairs on the back of ur neck stand up

  • Tune on forever Shane.

  • this tune means so much to me as i awoke many mornings in a victorian prison cell when i was a young man.

  • the lyrics for this song have to be one of the most heart-breaking i've ever heard. i can feel that dude's pain. superb song.

  • Klasee, für mich das beste Lied.

  • E' davvero difficile trovare una canzone più bella di questa, una melodia al là di ogni tempo e di ogni luogo... Ma perchè non ci sei più Shane? Brutto bastardo, quante altre meravigliose canzoni ci avresti regalato...

  • @GIANNULI69 guarda che è vivo...

  • Bellissima canzone e bellissimo video!

  • amazing...... just love it

  • All of you commenting about Shane's teeth... did you know that he got new teeth recently? I saw him in Houston on the last Pogues tour and he had all of his teeth!

  • wow. look at the 'stache!

  • cant think of a better melody, absolutely brilliant. this band never ceased to amaze me. my wife hates them, but what the fxxx , she dont know her ass from her head.

  • If for nothing else (and there is PLENTY else) McGowan should be celebrated for the melody at the end of this song. It's sublimely pretty, solemn, joyous, romantic and achingly beautiful. Shane, here's to you...

  • @tybalttybalt I could be wrong but I think this was actually written by Jem . Brilliant anyway, the lyrics could have been writen for me. Takes me back to a flat in Adelaide road, Dublin.

  • @SuperDsweeney (copyright 1989 Jem Finer) thats what it says at the bottom of the lyrics for this song on the pogues.com so it prolly was lol

  • wicked song by the only real group that ever existed

  • Legend

  • ahh the acursed drink that has done many a great man in.love ya shane

  • my favourite pogues song, what more is there to say?

  • reminds me of sleep rough

  • this song wraps a blanket around you. thens takes it away leavin you wanting more

  • @aliblyth Well said!

  • sun felt cold upon my face, cracks in the clieling spelt hell

  • ...tried to sleep..dream my way...back to you again...

    I love you Cathy!

  • Absolutely brilliant Jem is a good songsmith. I wonder how it will sound as a solo. I'm going to learn it.

  • This one never grows old.

  • Happy New Year. Peace and Love to all

  • "I held a match to your cigarette and watched the smoke curl in the mist" Spider actually wrote this song which goes to show they're all terrific song writers. LOVE THE POGUES!

  • This song was written by jem finer. One of the best ballads ever.

  • ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @JohnMellor5202 Jem Finer wrote this song.

  • beautiful....

  • going to see them 2nite in glasgow i hope shanes soberish

  • tallpaddy: I share your love and enthusiasm, however, it's not that god loves The Pogues, but that Shane IS god!

  • Count the days- slowly passing by...

Brixton once again- 18/12/09- best venue in the World- a home from home for the Pogues...Best crimbo present ever

I have no idea how Shane has kept going so long with a fag in one hand and a glass of the hard stuff in the other...

There must be a God and He must love the Pogues..

  • Kin a mate

    Im THERE!

  • just wanted to point out that this song was written by Jem Finer, the banjo player

  • 1:05

"Shane! What are you doing in here? This isn't your room!!

  • Shane gave me a can of lager once when they played St Austell Colliseum in Cornwall. I was so happy in my pissed state I banged it on the stage and it exploded all over Kate O'Riorden. One of the best bands ever and they wouldn't win x factor.

  • You have to hand it to him though, being that wasted and writing some of the greatest lyrics of all time. But you have to give credit to the rest of the band too, some of the best musicians in the business. Musical perfection I think

  • haha the lead singer looks smashed off his face.

  • he is, thats what makes him so great.

  • He's pretty much a legend. You could use his name. And he's always smashed...

  • This song makes me happy and sad at the same time .??

    If that makes any sense.

  • great song, but his teeth bug me haha. I'm just weird about teeth

  • shame really, he's had most of them smashed out whilst drunk. I think shane is awesome. The embodiment of the anti-rock star. I.e. you don't have to look perfect all the time.

  • Jesus, Shane looks just like James Joyce in this one.

  • what is that wind up instrument?

  • a hurdy gurdy, it looks like. Sort of like a wind-up fiddle.

  • Better than Johnny Cash? .... Maybe ...

  • Shane is an absolute genius. I hope he gets himself together and lives a long productive life.

  • Thanks...I love The Pogues :)

  • parts of this song really remind me of "Acadian Driftwood" by the Band.

  • now that's pretty fockin perfect right there

  • every one of us is trying to stand alone

and i don't work. you need and i need,

but do we know what it is we need? I think not, not me and not you. together

we may have a chance, get back to me

if you have or seek wisdom.

i am the greyeminance and you will never

be sorry you got back to me, sure.

if I don't can't help you, I know who and will

can so don't be ashamed, I'm here, and

everything is as it always should and will be.

  • wow

    thank you for uploading

    god bless the pogues

    and SHANE

  • I just listened to the "Peace and Love" album yesterday. This is one of the most beautiful songs The Pogues ever recorded, the strings are BEYOND breathtaking. Look at 'em, the whole band was just fantastic! I only wish I'd known about the show this line up did in L.A. about two years ago. I would've been there.

  • I live for the Pogues

  • This has got to be one of the best songs ever written.

  • top stuff ,songs dont get much better than this.

  • GREAT SONG

  • He always looks dashing, whatever he weares :D

  • Mi emoziono ogni volta che la sento e Dio solo sa cosa pagherei per risentirla dal vivo....

  • what's jem playing?

  • It seems to be a Hurdy-Gurdy.

    It's a medieval instrument.

  • I fuckin live on albert bridge road

  • Very rare. Cheers mate.

    Long live the Pogues.

  • what the hell is that beard on shane? :D

  • In the UK they call those beards "moustaches"....

  • You don't think it makes him look dashing?!

  • this song makes me sad, i always thought shane wrote it though. seems like he didn't write at least 2 of my favourites (thousands are sailing being another)

  • This is THE best Pogues song... Everytime I hear it, I cannot help but smile wide and think of the time I walked a very desolate country road in Bunratty, Ireland... The walk was long and dark and this song ran in my head just about the whole time. "Misty morning, albert bridge" is a great traveling companion! ;)

  • awesome

    probably their finest

My favourite song ever about London and hearing it when Im away makes me very homesick

  • this is angels music...definitly the best song ever

  • Jem Finer's best song, the Pogues best song (sorry Shane) and one of my all-time favourits. Thanks for posting...

  • Count the days, wow, so true, so true.

  • One of the best songs of all time!!!

  • Count the days

    Slowly passing by

    Step on a plane

    And fly away

    I'll see you then

    As the dawnbirds sing

On a cold and misty morning

    By the Albert Bridge

  • I awoke so cold and lonely

    In a faraway place

The sun fell cold upon my face

The cracks in the ceiling spelt hell

    Turned to the wall

Pulled the sheets around my head

Tried to sleep, and dream my way

    Back to you again

  • I dreamt we were standing

By the banks of the Thames

Where the cold grey waters ripple

    In the misty morning light

Held a match to your cigarette

Watched the smoke curl in the mist

Your eyes, blue as the ocean between us

    Smiling at me

  • One of my all time Pogues favourites, and oh my beautiful city...

  • Despite Mr. MacGowan looking like Sean Penn on a bender, the song is fucking brilliant.

  • Mr. Shane McGowan, always honest, always brilliant, simply the best. Thank you for posting this rare video OztarAntoine. Bye!
