:) haha, no, bolens don't really have, alterable belts. the engines are a double pulley, and the driveshaft pulley is a double pulley, that is part of the Disc Clutch system, can't change the size, as its a specialized piece. Engines are all stock. Mostly Wisconsin S-8D 8.25hp engines.

When we find old tractors like these, they aren't for sale. They're sitting in peoples yards, normally for about 10 years, and we knock on their doors, and ask if they would want to sell them. Thats how you find cool stuff. Not on craigslist.

i have a bolens h16xl. when i got it it never had a motor. i'm thinking of a 20hp kohler to put in it, unless i find a running motor with a gernerator/starter.

nice, the 20HP kohler would have alot of power. Starter/generators aren't that reliable. And normally don't put out much juice at this point in their lives. They almost always work as starters though :) even when they don't make any power.

I've thought about that before, getting a 3cyl diesel out of a kubota, or some other Japanese tractor, and popping it in one of these garden tractors. Ford pinto's had 4cyls, and v6's, no 3cyl engines. The only cars I know of in America that has 3cyl's were some geo metros.

Heck yeah man, the starter/generators. Its both your starter, and your generator to charge the battery :) and MAN those things are heavy! They aren't made out of aluminum like alternators, they're heavy duty steel cased, lots of copper windings, and some cast iron thrown in for fun :) those things are 20 pounds at least i think.

yeah man, i don't know about the mowers. I'd strongly recomend an old 1960's garden tractor like these beasts. Do some awesome modifications to these things, throw a 24HP Horizontal shaft engine on one, and it would be damn near un stopable. These have the same 5 lug bolt pattern as alot of small trucks, so that helps with finding some kickass tires for them.
