I was glad that chris and lorelai ended up together for awhile--they probably shouldn't have gotten married, but they always went back and forth. I really liked how she said something about how chris was always that possibility--I totally get that, which is probably why i like this scene so much. i like that it played out in a loving/caring sort of way and not an all out fight or something

Before I get flamed by intense java junkie fans let me say I love Lorelai and Luke. I believe 100% that Lorelai and Luke belong together. I love Luke. I love Lorelai. But... I don't understand why fans have to hate Christopher to love Luke. Chris started out immature but he grew a lot during the series. He may have let Rory down but he was good to G.G. and he created a good relationship with Rory in the end. I dont get why people hate on him so much. He didn't deserve to be so hurt.

As we saw in the "its just like riding a bike" episode,Luke does what makes her "happy" because as he stated at the last episode, he likes to see her happy.He doesnt do those things because there is a reward in end.Lorelai couldnt see that till the end that luke doesnt need to yell outloud about how he feels about her, his actions explains it better then anything.Unlike Christopher who does exactly the opposite.it took 3 seasons for her to understand and embrace that.

Everyone is having this debate about who was the better man: Chris or Luke? But I don't think its about that. I think its about who Lorelai loves. I think Lorelai always thought she should be with Chris b/c they were a perfect match but the feelings just weren't there like they were for Luke. Whether that's right or wrong I don't know but Luke is the man she loved. I also personally think Luke loved Lorelai. He was quiet and guarded but he showed his feelings in small ways everyday for years.

Regarding our own preferences we decide who we like the best, either Luke or Chris. There's a big contrast.

I'd prefer a guy like Luke for Lorelei. He's a real man, but nevertheless the most caring about her and Rory, for 10 years or so he alway has been there, never asking for anything in return. There is no episode in which he acts in his own interest, sometimes he even helped without anyone knowing about it. There's no episode without Luke, but Chris appears rarely. Says everything.

The only way he could've put Gigi through school and gone to France and made a restaurant open at 5 in the morning just for him and Lorelai was because he "got loaded" off his grandfather. Lorelai had nothing. She lived in a potting shed at the inn with Rory for 4 years before she could buy her house. Ok, I think I've made my point that Chris does not know how to be a dad.

@kindaichikijuto I disagree. Chris is a fine dad and even a great dad and was more of a dad to Rory than Luke in all the time on the show that we got a chance to see. I think Luke wasn't even dating Lorelai and didn't have any obligation or reason to be Rory's "dad" while Rory was growing up. He was a nice guy who cared about Rory but Chris didn't do much wrong. Although the writers were inconsistent and confusing sometimes Lorelai acted like Chris was never around but we didn't SEE that.

Luke made this clear in the 100th episode when he says to Chris, "Were you there when she had the chicken pox and could eat nothing but mashed potatoes for a week, or when she graduated high school, or when she started college?" And Chris just stood there, speechless because he wasn't there. He was never there. Luke was always there. That's just what it comes down to. Sure, Chris got a second chance with Gigi, but it's not the same.

Aww. I love this scene. But she's right, Chris has always been "a possibility" , never the one. I'm sorry to rain on your parade but I personally hate Chris. I mean he was always good to Lorelai and always made her happy in some way. But, he didn't know how to be a dad. Luke was always there for Lorelai and Rory. Luke has been much more of a father-figure to Rory than Chris ever was.

This scene pulls all the ties together. The relationship Loreali/Chris was always rather undefined, somewhat blurry, because the audience never knew how strong Loreali's feelings towards Chris actually were. But here, here they are talking about it and she is so heartbroken because now she is definitely putting an end to any possible relationship in the future with Chris. No maybe-getting-back-together, no affair, nothing. It's a really special key scene and important to the end of the series.
