I'm a Yorkshireman (Northern England) and, to my knowledge, have no connection to Scotland but if I had to choose one person for the title of GREATEST EVER BRITON I would pick Robert the Bruce.
How the man managed to go from just one of several with a claim to the Scots throne and, conquering or converting a group at a time, ended up as King AND even freed Scotland from the grip of England....!
This programme does not do justice to this part of history. Bruce fought with Comyn because Comyn had betrayed a pact with Bruce. They had met before and decided that Comyn would drop his claim to the throne for Bruce lands. Comyn had betrayed Bruce to Edward and Bruce had to flee England or die. That was the reason for the confrontation in Dumfries.Bruces brother in law probably dealt the fatal blow. Playing with the facts is ok in a film but not acceptable in a historical documentary.
fantastic - went to the bannockburn battle site in july and saw the recreated face of robert the bruce ( done in 2005 in manchester ) and whats clear is this was no noble fancy dan but with cuts over both eyes and on the bridge of the nose , this was fighting man . This great leader made edward the 2nd fight his fight on the ground of his chosing . Not sure Daddyo would of fell for it though as in edward the 1st we ( I am a proud englishman ) had a leader to match but thats irrelevant
isnt the myth of the king watching the spider tying to spin his web ..and falling and then trying over and over ... from Robert the Bruce's experience?that inspired him to fight on inspite of defeats ..again a myth as mentioned b4
@SBRtheBlackDouglas the follower who went back to grayfriers was rodger kirkpatrick of closeburn who slit the common's throught saying i'll muck sucker
starting the war of indipendent scotland along with the black douglases the maxwells and the bruces .........
The Bruce, A truly great warrior is still remembered now after 700 years.
And then a few years. His courage made him immortal.
The King of Scots for all time!

The myth appears frequently throughout history, especially in the middle east.
