@Shenlung67 i knoww! the book and movie dont match up in alot of places.. and that can be quite annoying. i loved the book best, but the movie is still an interesting take of what happened..and i think the death of piggy and simon were changed because it was a bit too gorry in the book.

But it's actually ironic because he has just saved Ralph from being hunted down when he's going off to hunt some enemy ship down. Thing is...who's going to save the naval officer? Or the ship he finds? The whole book is mankind brought into perspective. Downsized, if you will.

No way. Having seen both the 60's version and the Color film I can honestly say the color film is alot darker and truer to the book's atmosphere of gloom. Not to mention that Ralph in this one looks almost identical to the boy portrayed on the cover page of the novel, and that Jack (this one) is every bit as savage and hateful as he was in the novel. The color film wins hands down.

@Dresden1065 true but when compared to the book it's nothing like it... the 1990 version is in 1980 not ww2 and is about american boys not british boys... and they cuss alot which is not true to the book and alot of other stuff. for entertainment... the 1990 version i'd say is better but for a more accurate representation of the book i'd say the old one is better

@ItsMyeno well obviously they aren't appropriate, it's not a book for little kids and is usually taught to high schoolers. Regardless, the book is meant to teach you what happens when society has no rules. The deaths of those two character in particular also symbolize a loss of philosophy (what Simon symbolized) and a loss of intelligence (what Piggy symbolized) so when they were killed it shows how logic and philosophical thinking are killed as well.

@ItsMyeno All these details are the point of the story. The impact of the book is that even children will kill each other given the opportunity.The island becomes a microcosm of all of human existence. It's saying something about humanity itself. So yeah, these things are pretty relevant.
