the narrator, like many people, take bible verses out of context. in Matthew 6 Jesus is giving his sermon regarding hypocrisy, not public prayer. you have to make sure to read for the context of the scripture as well. In this passage that is the topic at hand, Jesus is not literally saying one must go behind a closed closet. He is teaching his followers to be careful to nevere be a show off during prayer. I agree most prayers should be done in private, but there is a time and place for public and group praying. As for the OT laws....the bible says that it brings only death and its purpose is to show us are sin nature but it is not the way. Christ is the way.

Jesus says that he is the way, and so does Paul. The OT laws were given to us to show us our sin nature, and that we need a Savior. Christ fullfilled the law by being that Savior. He is the way.

Jesus spoke with metaphoric talk, idioms and parables. You do not need to read much of the NT to know this. Jesus was not literally saying you must always pray behind a closed door, he was moreso taking up issue with show offs that pray for attention and praise.

Slaves/Servants. Yes the bible does say that this is a part of life. I read once most of Israels slaves were either criminals doing time that way, POW's, and house servants that may or may not have a choice in it. Luke 12:47 is a parable, btw. And it talks about how a good servant of Christ will be given part of the kingdom and a bad one who beat others will be beaten.

I think what the bible is mainly teaching is that no matter what situation you are in life, you must do what is right in Gods eyes. If you are forced into slavery than still strive to have a pure heart...because God will reward you.  One day all the bad things will be gone, injustice, death, disease, crime, etc.. This world is like a testing phase and to teach us and strengthen our souls. God is in control.

Religion doesn't exist outside of interpretation and there's nothing in the Bible (or any other "holy" text) to tell us which interpretation is "right" and which one is "wrong." The only way it's been decided throughout history as to how's interpretation is "right" has been through wars, assasinations, bigotry, genocide, murder, persicution, and/or exclusionary practices, which are all justified by passages in what ever holy text people were interpreting.
