i bought a refurbished macbook pro last year and had a logic board problem when it arrived and recently my trackpad went out but it was covered under the 1 yr warranty so i wasn't a big deal i will order a refurbished imac 21.5 real soon.
@rukisan159 no problems its still going the only problem i had was with the charger it stopped working but since i bought apple care they just gave me a new one :) but i have had no problems with the actual laptop
@rukisan159 true but the good thing about refurbished items from apple is that you still have the same warranty as a new one for a whole year. not many companies do this usually refurbished product have 3 month warranties and they dont let you buy extended ones by the actual manufacturer its usually 3rd party warranties. what i did was waited for the apple 1 year warranty to almost expire then i went and bought an extended apple warranty. you have during your one year to extend it for 2 more
@009rv So from what I've seen all the refurbished products you purchased from Apple have been in great condition. The only thing you're not getting is the fancy box, but other than that you're getting it almost brand new.
@rukisan159 also i beleive apple warranties are international all you need to have is an apple store near you. im not 100% though but i think i read it somewhere. so if money is an issue buying refurbished is ok dont worry about it the product will be good. all the products that i buy from apple are refurbished (macbook, mac mini, 2 ipod nanos, and im waiting to get a refubished ipad too :) )
this a big help for me, not only for the info but for telling me that i am insured that i can be safe from buying refurbished macs!...wooohoo..hhhhehe...maybe ill planning on getting it on December
what would you recommend the macbook white or macbook pro 13 inch?
@rukisan159 i would get the pro. the plastic wears out and turns yellow from what i read. not sure if the newer ones still do that. but still the aluminum feels sturdier
Good video. Suggestion...use a tripod next time...makes it way easier to open things like the accessory box so the viewers dont watch you fumble for 30 seconds....also makes the video less 'dizzy'. Constructive comments here, appreciate the video, thanks!
Now that I see this video, it makes me think that I should've bought my Macbook Aluminum refurbished and I would've saved between $500-600. Basically all you're paying with a brand new one is the nice looking white box.
@009rv Hey, do I need a student ID to get the student discount? If I do, can I just get like a letter from my teacher or school or something to prove it? Because I don't have an ID.
@iphonebeasty if u do it through a mac store they usually dont ask for ya u can try it out if they do just ask someone else or go to another store lol
go to Macintosh HD>Applications>Utilities>Migration Assistant if you own a mac. Otherwise you can Google Search it because I had everything on an External Hard Drive when I moved to mac
if there is damage ie scratches bumps dents on the out side they change that. if the computer had a faulty hdd they change that but if everything else is good they keep it. its pretty much a brand new laptop mine is still running great no problems and ive had this for 7 months now
thanks man appreciate it. i was recovering from a cold when i got the macbook :P im fine now lol. highly recommend the refurbs from mac im thinking of buying a refurbished imac for my sister ill do a vid for that too
its good still goes for five hours its also new when u get a refurbished mac so when u get an app like i stat it will tell u the health of the battery and how many cycles have been thru it mine is still at 100% health after 200 cycles :) depending if u got this one or the newer mac pro 13 inch then that one i beleive is 7 hours per charge which is great but for what i use it 5 is more than enough at school
well the new ones the lower end model now has a 2.26 and the higher one is 2.53ghz. it all depends on what u want to do. if u need to just do some web surfing and simple things then the lower one is enough but if u need to use photo shop then the higher one is much better u will see a difference when u use more intense programs
the diff is that the new one has a better battery 7hrs vs 5hrs. has fire wire, and an sd card slot has a bit more speed for the 2 models 2.26 and 2.53 ghz. if u have patience and dont need it right away i would wait and get the new model but refurbished they should have them soon and they will be cheaper or wait until they put those up and then buy the older model which will be even cheaper lol :P
what are the differences between this refurbished macbook aluminum and buying a new macbook pro for the 13.3 screen size? i can't tell any differneces yet it's not listed as a refurbished pro
omg i was going to get this refurbished but there are no more on the site im heartbroken so now i have to get a brand new one for more but oh well i guess its worth it
Well man i never been use a mac, so my entire life is a windows space, i mean, programs like skype, windows live messenger, games like counter strike by steam/valve corporation ,crysis, need for speed, other games to be resume runs on mac os? cruel doubt! another doubt is about the battery life. Apple says: 8 hours on 17 inch but i tell you before: i'm gamer. So, how much time i have without stay with macbook plugged in.
well for games that are for windows only u can install windows thru boot camp this includes skype. the battery life is pretty good on this laptop i get 5 hours out of it so its pretty good BUT when running heavy video card applications such as games or what not then the battery doesnt last that long. the newer macbook laptops are better with battery life
it runs great i really like it BUT if u can wait i would wait cause today they updated them and they will eventually get to the refurbished store ull get a faster computer for the same price OR u can wait until those hit and then by this one for even cheaper its up to u but they all run great
Do you know how much they are the 2.0 ones? and how come it is not on apples refubished mac's website ? like when i click refurbished mac and then macbooks it only shows the 2.4 alluminum model?
depends where you are? USA canada england...? and when you go to the site they only show what they have in stock. so if the model u want isnt there then they are sold out but dont worry they get some in all the time so just keep checking the site and ull see it there.
The refurbished Mac's are ones that were returned to Apple for whatever reason and have been completely restored and cleaned and sold as good as new but obviously for a discount price, usually about £100-£200 of a brand new Mac.
Have you had any problems since you purchased it? Now that you have had some time. I have a white one that I bought 2 years ago new and I wanted to upgrade and was looking at refurbished ones.
i used istat and it was 100% health. also it had 1 cycle and thats cuase i charged it. it was pretty much brand new. my battery is still at 100% health and ive had 80 cycles.
when u buy refurbished they dont add any other discount on it so the student one cant be added. they usually sell u an ipod and u send the rebate. so u could do that and then sell the ipod too not sure if that makes it cheaper that way lol. if u dont want to do that the only student discount that come on refurbs is on the warranty. you could wait for the prices to drop i think they are updating them around june so u if you can wait then wait to see if the prices drop and also see the upgrades.

Great Video! Im planning on getting a refurbished macboko and im very paranoid about EVRYTHING from the tiniest scratch to any performance issues. Is there ANYTHING wrong witht he macbook that you got...AT ALL???? Were there ANY signs of previous use? Thanks!!!
ya im the same i was paranoid too but this is the 3rd refurbished item from apple. before i bought an the aluminum imac and i was told the outer casing is changed. so i wasnt as worried as the first time but both the book and imac were free of scratches and so was an ipod i bought. there was no signs of any previous use its very fast no lag or anything. im very happy with it
Would you recommend the 2.4 ghz model over this one? How about the Macbook Pro over this?
I cant decide two things: 13.3 inch screen or 15.4. I have an alu imac so this wont be my main computer.
Also, do I need the extra processor bump, hdd bump, backlit keyboard? Here in canada, the refurb 2.0 is $1199 pluys 13% tax and refurb 2.4 is $1449 plus 13% tax. What do you recommend? Of n Macbook Pro is $1899 plus tax
it depends on what ur using it 4. i got this cause i just need it to make notes for school and since im in school i got to save on money so the pro is out. if ur doing intense work photoshop etc then you will see a difference between 2.0 & 2.4 but on simple internet, word processing then you wont see a big difference. i think the 13 was big enough for my needs which are basic and also its smaller.. in my head its more portable lol. the backlit i think for 300 more is too much.
^continued: my plan was to save there and update the book later on when its needed. just think about how ur gonna use it cause once ur home then u wont even use ur other desktop no more lol. so really think on what ur needs for the laptop are especially if money is tight hope that helps u make a decision
I ordered a refurb MPB last Saturday. The worst decision I ever made in my life was to go with the free FedEx ground shipping and not pay the $30 for 2nd day air. I could be using my computer right now!
Thanks for the refurb unboxing video. I was thinking about doing one myself when my mac gets here, but you've already done a good job. Thanks for posting!
im about to ditch my first gen macbook pro, 2.33 ghz, about two years old, for a refurb current gen macbook like yours (im looking into the 2.0 ghz model).
i dont mind the glossy screen it makes colors more vibrant but if u have lights behind u can see ur reflexion but im sure u can ignore urself when ur doing work. u can buy a plastic cover to take the gloss away if it bothers u too much. the speed is really good. its enough for me i bought the 2.0 cause i just do basic things net, word, nothing heavy like photoshop etc. once u start doing heavy things then ull notice between 2.0 & 2.4 when it came it ran as if no used it very fast, still does!
got a refurb cause its cheaper it comes pretty much new no scratches and it has the exact same warranty as a new one would so if it did have anything wrong with it which it doesn't i can just send it back :) and if u want even more peace of mind u can still get the apple care on top of that. pretty much the sales rep said that he only buys refurbs from apple cause there brand new. and i can vouch for that i bought this MB, an imac, & ipod refurbished and their all working as they should be
o ya thats cause i actually had to install it my self. it didnt come installed. i was surprised that they even gave it to me cause it was released a couple of days before i bought it . that was cool of them
Thanks for the video. I think I'm going for this one, saving $150 on the new model. I could get a new one on eBay for the same price as an apple refurb, but I'd rather have it come from apple. Now that I did research and know what I can expect, I will place an order when more come in stock. Thanks again!
i think its worth the buy. right now with the economy going badly buying a refurb saves u money. its a brand new computer didnt have any scratches, its really fast. come with the exact same warranty as a new one, the OS is awesome. its a really good laptop. if i need to buy anything from apple im gonna just buy refurbished. my sister bought a refurbished ipod too and it even came in a nice box. its also brand new. ITS WORTH IT :)
hey, it came and i am very happy with it. I completely underestimated the functionality of the huge trackpad :) so far everything works, but I havent had a chance to try out all of the ports yet, but i intend to do so soon
thats awesome. ya i didnt think it was going to be such a big deal but now when i use my gf laptop her tiny track pad is ridiculous lol. im glad u like it. its like brand new isnt it lol money saved :P
Hey, congrats on your purchase and for subscribing to my videos. You may want to get accessories for your new purchase - do take a look at the reviews on youtube as a whole before deciding which one to go for. I have a few videos up that may be of interest to you. Enjoy ;)
I just wanted to say I really appreciated the video. I just ordered one just like it, also refurbished and was curious to see what was in the box! Hope it accompanies my iMac nicely!
Nope... it was set to arrive today, but it won't be here until Wednesday. :( I am really looking forward to it. I'll be sure to PM/reply and tell u that i think! Have you had any problems with it?
no its running great just need to keep learning on how to use it . when u get it make sure everything is running properly test everything on it. all the ports, cd etc. just in case u never know. even when u buy something that is new u should do it u know and these are pretty much new :)
I've got the same one on the way as well. Two more days. I'm going crazy waiting for it. Really great to see that there were no scratches on yours or anything like that.
i was told that when ever they sell something as a refurbished item that if the casing is scratched or any outter cosmetic part is damaged its replaced. any how congrats on the purchase ur gonna love it. i suggest u also buy a hard cover for it. i bought the see thru speck from the apple store imo it still looks nice and its protected :P
thats awesome congrates. it will come pretty fast mine came in 2 days :) are you gonna buy a hard case for it? i did, i recommend one i got a see thru speck case and its pretty good. im just being extra care full i want it to always look nice :P
I ordered it on Wednesday and it is scheduled to get arrive Tuesday. I was looking at a few hard cases but have not purchased one yet. The clear one for sure though since the macbook is so sleek looking.
no i havent had any problems with it. the only thing is that i dont know how to use it very well, yet!! since ive been using only pc b4 this :P lol. it was a great deal u should totally save up for it:)
lol same if i get one its guna take me a while to get used to it seeing as ive been on windows computers forever. bt im sure itll be better once im used to it.
ill try n save up it seems perfect and you get like 150 pounds off :):)
ya its very different. im used to windows. i was thinking about installing vista on it so i can use word and what not to save sum more money but my friend can get the mac version for free through her engineering program if ur in univeristy u can try and get it aswell its through the microsoft academic alliance most universities are part of it.
ya go for it man its an awesome deal. this is the second refurbished item that i bought from apple. before i bought an imac for my aunt (her $ of course;) and kept it for about a month to make sure everything is good and its been a year and everything is fine. its definitely a good buy
the person on the phone was like never buy new from apple theres really no point. buying refurbs cost less and still have the same warranty if something is wrong they give u a new one :) this would have cost 1580 new and this was 1354 taxes in $226 saved
abut ?? are you a fucking canadian??

ya i read some pages from guy who worked for apple and they do replace the battery just in case the refurbishment process damages it.
sarcasticnoitall123 2 years ago
exactly, they replace all defective parts and make it new and sell it like an open boxed item.
sarcasticnoitall123 2 years ago
there wont be any scratches on it they out a new outer casing on its just the inside that stays the same (besides deffective parts)

what do u mean by the inside? the screen and keyboard or the actual hardrive parts
GSD4U 2 years ago
just the hard drive and all the stuff like that are used...the screen and keyboard and casing are brand new.

Great Video! Im planning on getting a refurbished macboko and im very paranoid about EVRYTHING from the tiniest scratch to any performance issues. Is there ANYTHING wrong witht he macbook that you got...AT ALL???? Were there ANY signs of previous use? Thanks!!!
GadgetAddicted 2 years ago
ya im the same i was paranoid too but this is the 3rd refurbished item from apple. before i bought an the aluminum imac and i was told the outer casing is changed. so i wasnt as worried as the first time but both the book and imac were free of scratches and so was an ipod i bought. there was no signs of any previous use its very fast no lag or anything. im very happy with it

GadgetAddicted 2 years ago
it depends on what ur using it 4. i got this cause i just need it to make notes for school and since im in school i got to save on money so the pro is out. if ur doing intense work photoshop etc then you will see a difference between 2.0 & 2.4 but on simple internet, word processing then you wont see a big difference. i think the 13 was big enough for my needs which are basic and also its smaller.. in my head its more portable lol. the backlit i think for 300 more is too much.
009rv 2 years ago

Thanks for posting!

im about to ditch my first gen macbook pro, 2.33 ghz, about two years old, for a refurb current gen macbook like yours (im looking into the 2.0 ghz model).
questions:
how do you like the glossy screen?
hows the speed?
does it run chunkily like its been used before?
dudeman8284 2 years ago
i dont mind the glossy screen it makes colors more vibrant but if u have lights behind u can see ur reflexion but im sure u can ignore urself when ur doing work. u can buy a plastic cover to take the gloss away if it bothers u too much. the speed is really good. its enough for me i bought the 2.0 cause i just do basic things net, word, nothing heavy like photoshop etc. once u start doing heavy things then ull notice between 2.0 & 2.4 when it came it ran as if no used it very fast, still does!
009rv 2 years ago
Why did you get it Referbished?
GiantYukon2 2 years ago
probobly because its like 300$ cheaperr, so why not?
orangepeal22 2 years ago 2
got a refurb cause its cheaper it comes pretty much new no scratches and it has the exact same warranty as a new one would so if it did have anything wrong with it which it doesn't i can just send it back :) and if u want even more peace of mind u can still get the apple care on top of that. pretty much the sales rep said that he only buys refurbs from apple cause there brand new. and i can vouch for that i bought this MB, an imac, & ipod refurbished and their all working as they should be
009rv 2 years ago
Heyy how much did you buy this for?
jessdoesmac 2 years ago
it was a little more than 1300 canadian
009rv 2 years ago
o ya thats cause i actually had to install it my self. it didnt come installed. i was surprised that they even gave it to me cause it was released a couple of days before i bought it . that was cool of them

Thanks for the video. I think I'm going for this one, saving $150 on the new model. I could get a new one on eBay for the same price as an apple refurb, but I'd rather have it come from apple. Now that I did research and know what I can expect, I will place an order when more come in stock. Thanks again!
Bostonmass44 2 years ago
May i ask if this was definitely worth the buy?
TheBidders0819 2 years ago
i think its worth the buy. right now with the economy going badly buying a refurb saves u money. its a brand new computer didnt have any scratches, its really fast. come with the exact same warranty as a new one, the OS is awesome. its a really good laptop. if i need to buy anything from apple im gonna just buy refurbished. my sister bought a refurbished ipod too and it even came in a nice box. its also brand new. ITS WORTH IT :)
009rv 2 years ago
I was going to get the refurbished macbook air, but then I am getting this, its wayyyyy better!
reallyred123 2 years ago
hey, it came and i am very happy with it. I completely underestimated the functionality of the huge trackpad :) so far everything works, but I havent had a chance to try out all of the ports yet, but i intend to do so soon
MacUser012 2 years ago
thats awesome. ya i didnt think it was going to be such a big deal but now when i use my gf laptop her tiny track pad is ridiculous lol. im glad u like it. its like brand new isnt it lol money saved :P
