  • is he still alive ?

  • Great Video

  • what a horrbile teacher

  • @greenleaftreefrog

    I agree

  • @greenleaftreefrog

I agree-I wish there was a way to eliminate Expert Village from showing up on our searches.

  • whats the deal with expert village & the written dialog on the screen???

  • Using the dissappearing brass clamps = rookie

Saying the birdsmouth is based on the wall width LOL = rookie

btw, insulated wall makes up 5% of the envelope, only idiots use 2x6 to increase the r-value of 5% of your envelope. = rookie

LOL. with the method you just showed us, you can't even use a 2x6 rafter. How retarded is that!!!!! Gonna do the whole roof in 2x8 or bigger, even 3' long jacks! LOL.Those are one of the worst squares sold. Cant read the numbers, fragile. All signs of a rookie.

  • @d1incharge hey let me know if you make a video explaining this stuff, or anything related, because im taking roofing in college right now as a part of a carpentry course and am just being introduced to it, so i want to learn it the right way. You seem to know your stuff, and as a 20 year old kid, i dont know much about anything really so any pointers tricks or tips youre willing to share would help out alot, and be much apreciated.

  • @MrBlackice420

Where do you get carpentry in college?

  • Very good video

  • anyone who loves tools or just innovative videos should check out the workshop video on my channel!

  • would pen foster qualify me for this job???

  • you're awesome... thanks...

  • I was looking for a video to help me with a competition for my trade school, and this is straight and to the point. This really helped me.

  • THANKS NICE LITTLE VIDEO

  • I have a couple of those thingy's lol I use them for making stair's ,

  • excellent demo, to the point!!

  • commercials on Youtube are getting ridiculous....

  • The dimensions of this house with a 72 inch rafter would be 54.4 inches to the mid-point , including the ridge subtraction, and 47.135 inches in height which would give you a 9 on 12 slope for a 72 inch rafter. So total width of the structure wold be 110.3 inches or 9 feet 2 inches. Nice play house. Too bad he didn't mention how many rafters he needed and their spacing on center. But by the looks of the 2 x 10 or 2 x 12, I would assume is spaced every 4 feet for a play house.

  • Actually trusses for storage are designed and used all the time. Their design has to be engineered of course but it comes out like a gable with pony walls built on top of the joists, what a time saver.

  • never took off half the tickness of the ridge

  • all hes doing is showing you how to cut the rafter after youve gotten the length.

you would take the ridge off before u calculate the rafter length .

    -_-

  • hey same job as jesus...cool...

  • haha yeah eh? I heard so... he was a carpenter? so was noah.

  • yea man..they all got mad skills...

  • so was jesus..hahah

  • @DARKnDODGY Actually, it was his father, Joseph, who was a carpenter.

  • cowboy

  • two word " quick square" lol and a

    reckoner

  • ye but would it be right plumb cut and the right bird mouth in the right place lol

  • i`am a carpenter that is help for but speed is the thing but u don`t wot your about it good go on my son lol

  • You are doing ok.

  • Yes please go faster in this instructional video. If you leave out all the instruction in it, you could have had "6" rafters cut out by now!

  • I'm a DIY'er. I have a framing square and the stair stops. Didn't quite know how they worked til i saw this. thanks..still gotta read up about that bird mouth. of course if i go with trusses, not relevant.

  • Trusses tend to lift in winter, consider that when you are deciding to go hand joists and rafters, or trusses. Trusses are mainly made for speed and they can go long spans with lighter (cheaper) lumber. I like trusses for shops and garages but my preference is rafter and joist roof. Added benefit to rafter and joist is greater ability to hold weight so you can use the attic for storage but the joists need to be able to support the extra weight. Trusses are a no-no for storage.

  • if anyone knows anything about picthing roofs, they should tell you go by a ready reckoner

  • this was very helpfull thanks. how many inches of rafter length should i add for my depth in the birds mouth cut.

  • brutal too slow lol

iam 18 and id have 6 rafters cut out by now

if you have questions please feel free to ask me
