Whats the use of painted lanes when the highway code condones filtering?
Are bikers allowed to change lanes without indicating? Cause that's what technically happens all the time when filtering. Imagine a car signaling when changing lanes and a bike without signal makes the same lane change to overtake this car... Who's wrong?
Shoulders should double as bike lanes (2 wheels only), and filtering should be illegal when there is none.
@kewlick31 First, I think automatic unfolding training wheels should be made available. This gives bikers no excuse to filter because of putting their feet down all the time. But that would not solve the problem of being rear ended, which brought me to the idea of using the shoulder. In case of an emergency, bikes can easily blend in with other traffic since they are narrow.
But you're right; it would cause congestion at traffic lights and other points where motorbikes have to merge back in.
Good stuff. If I had a motorcycle I would do the same thing. Instead I ride a pista track bike with no brakes in this way. I don't understand why some of these responses are so negative. Oh wait. Riding a bike through NY city. Almost everyday I came accross some Jersey fucker. So you make them mad on the parkway. When they get into NY. They are already pissed. Especially after people like me punch off their mirrors. WTF ever. I just don't like cars.
im thinking about getting a bike (around this summer) and i was never sure if lane splitting is legal in jersey. So is it? (im in central jersey just saying)
"They're not pissed" Ya they are man lol You are moving and they arent. Proof is the guy in da truck at the end blocking you but you slid by nice and easy Good video =]
people that get pissed because you can go and they can't are pieces of shit. for the black car and the white truck i would horn nicely and if they don't move the fuck away i would park the bike on the fucking grass and beat the fuck out of any of them... when im driving my car i ALWAYS let people pass when they call it properly (like turning on the turn signal before they try to move on my lane) otherwise ill speed up and they have to slam on the brakes.. and it is their fault if they hit me..
I'm trying to raise awareness on safe lane splitting. We're trying to keep all the latest updates from Texas SB506 (which is CLOSE TO BEING PASSED). We are VERY close to getting this legalized officially in texas... visit the site and show some support and get updated on the status!
i didnt know that lane splitting was legal in NJ, and yea i have driving on the parkway, its hard to merge because assholes always drive way to fast and never give you an opening
2:12=1 of them is the number of exits and their locations.
5:05=it's common here; cagers tend to dose off or read their paper while sitting in traffic.
7:34= actually he sped up at 7.24 and more at 7.27; but that's ok. I expect that from folks. Some even throw their cars at me; but it's cool; I understand their frustration.
how the fuck do u split lanes without having a friggin heart attack? arent u afraid ur side mirror will hit a cars side mirror?someone please answer, i always fuckin wondered this question!
there's more room than what it seems. mirrors are mostly off centered either higher or lower than the bikes. after a while you get used to the width of your bike. i don't recommend people doing it unless they really know their bikes.
Bikers are a lot like skaters. They think the world revolves around them. The guy in the white truck had every right to be there. You put a guy on a bike and all of a sudden he's super-driver and everybody in a car is an asshole. I ride as well and I've never been cut off by a car. Don't treat other drivers like they owe you something and you'll be fine. BTW, you talk like a cocky 20-something who's full of himself.
you must ride on some great roads because here in NJ there's no rider that hasn't gotten cut off. I never ride like anyone owes me anything; that's a sure way to die. If anything, bigger cars feel like they own the road; we are the ones that get run over and pushed out of the way. As a rider you should know this; I doubt that you are.
They're cutting you off and squeezing you because you're putting yourself in a position where you shouldn't be. If you'd taken a course (maybe you did, I don't know), the instructor would have advised against lane splitting. Not every car driver knows that law. You may be right in terms of the law, but your still a stain on the road. I only put my bike where cars are expecting me to be. **V-Star 1100. If I wasn't a rider, why would I have watched your video?
don't get me wrong it doesn't bother me when folks cut me off when I'm splitting (or not); it's expected. You should put your bike where you would be more visible not where cagers expect you to be because most won't see you even when you're in their face. I had conversations with instructors and cops and they have mixed feeling about splitting; it's a very controversial topic.
I will say some bikers fit your description, however the majority of us don't feel that way about ALL cars. I just hate when a car cuts me off, my life is on the line, the chance of them getting hurt if their is an accident between us is very slim. I don't really agree with lane splitting just because it is illegal here in PA and I don't want to get arrested, however, many times I would have loved to lane split, I just don't want to face the consequences if i get caught.
You've never been cutoff by a car!? HAHAHAHAHA! What, have you been riding for 3 days? Either that or you're just tweeked because you ride a big cruiser and you can't lane split.
5K/yr for 8 years. I own a cruiser but I used to have a Concours - and I'd never lane split. You'd be surprised how safe a motorcycle can be if you keep a resonable speed and don't squeeze yourself into every crack in the traffic. We all bitch about how car drivers suck, and then you trust them NOT to drift into you when your splitting because they're not paying attention.
I don't put my life in others hands which is why I ride between cars. The probability of being hit by a car while between them is far less than getting rear ended while sitting in traffic; which is y that technique is legal in some states and some countries. NJ is currently evaluating whether it should be legal or not.
and I hate car drivers who pollute the atmosphere going nowhere with their engines on. Your obviously too lazy to check your mirrors or indicating etc either and maybe thats why it bothers you.

I have never understood why (when in traffic) people leave 8 carlengths of space between them, and the car infront. (ex. black SUV at 5:05)
6:16= Nice Subaru!
7:34= I disagree with you there. When the Accord left, you took to long to get going.
