If I was McCain, I would've picked Romney. Palin has zero foreign policy experience, so McCain helped Obama by not being able to call him inexperienced. Her pick may also turn off independents who don't like her far-right outlook. I also see her being massacred in the VP debate, unless Biden takes it easy due to fear of looking sexist. OTOH, she'll help convince some McCain-wary conservatives & pick up some Hillary supporters (at least PUMA, although who knows how many of them there are).

There's no doubt whatsoever that he could, he's an excellent debater. But a lot of people (wrongly) would think its sexist for a man to criticize a woman, b/c then its men picking on women. The McCain camp is already using the sexism card. When Biden joked "well, Palin's a lot better looking than me", they called it sexist. Any criticism of her record is sexist.

If Biden really goes after her, he will crush her in the debate, & it could change the race. I hope he doesn't go soft.

Until the debates, the GOP will keep her as far away from the media as possible. Until then, the McCain campaign will put her through 'a boot camp," where GOP & McCain surrogates will pose as many hypothetical questions the media might ask her, questions ranging from domestic to foreign policy issues, & from governing to personal issues. These tactics will be used all in the hope to mislead Palin's experience & record. So McCain has his VP candidate vetted after he picks her not beforehand.
