  • haha, man you dont even know what breaks are yourself !! hahaha pmsl..

  • @truesouljs I'm sorry I click out if the video before he said that. I'm on iPod so I can't comment and watch. Anyway I use a djx 100 cuz it was free and my gemini broke. I don't like it because it doesn't have many features but I do like the 700 that I have used. So what's rong with the 750? Mabye I've been oblivious but I like behringer. Pls explain ur side.

  • why not just cut the original breaks?

  • Jay, you are the greatest man known to mankind :D, thank you :)

  • I facepalmed at 1:11

  • Is that the Behringer djx 750? If so is it worth 230$? not sure how many pounds that is.

  • @boogerman087 No mate it's the Pioneer DJM600 which has been discontinued because they now have the 700 & 800. By the way Pioneer are very expensive I paid €550 for a DJM400...Only 2 channels but a great mixer with effects & a sampler. Also NO BEHRINGER PRODUCT IS WORTH $230!! I used have a DJX700. Paid €300 for it. The eq lights stopped working after a month, the on/off effect button got stuck down soon after & the sound was terrible. DONT WASTE CASH ON BEHRINGER!! Peace out...DJTrueSoul.

  • adds more depth to the tracks I've found

  • nice dj machean

  • did yo make sure they were at the exact bpm or does that not matter?

  • Srry if this is an annoyingly frequently asked question, but where can i get some cheap VINYL (not CDJ) turntables? and not like a record player, i mean an actual dj turntable.

Can any1 help me out with this?

  • i have been a turntablist for about 10 years, ill try to give u some valuable information. you cant get cheap vinyl turntalbes. (u can but its really not a good idea) the platter will lag very hard makin it very frustrating and impossible to scratch, needles will jump etc. techniques 1200 have been around for 30 years for a reason. i would recomend getting 1 tech 12 and 1 very cheap turntable then replaceing it later. (vinyl costs alot and ur better off putting that money into good decks).

  • Thanks, man. And since getting those types of turntables sounds like a bad idea, is there a more reliable deck type that's affordable? like CDJ?

  • a good couple questions to ask is:

What type of music do u listen to? is it something that involves heavy scratching like hiphop/breaks or is it something that is more mixing like trance?

what are your goals as a dj? do you wanna play in clubs/housepartys or are you more of a home hobbyist? what is your price range?

if you are looking for a beginer mixing system

Numark CD Mix 2 all in 1 console its cheap and reliable and gives you a good intro into the world of dj.

  • continued: if you are looking for more of a "hip hop battle style" gemini makes some cheap record turntables that are good for beginers. Numark makes some very nice mixers for the price. just make sure the cross fader is adjustable and reliable (cheap faders need constant replaceing) as this is the most important thing for scratching

the deck might skip if u really scratch hard but just buy an unskipable scratch record to fix this. then upgrade to tech12s later.

  • continued again: there is upsides and downsides to both records and cdjs

cds: pros: tracks are free off the net and you will have unlimited music to choose from cons: its not records and scratching generally isnt as good even on $1000 cdjs

records: pros: scratching is best, i find u have better control over a track for fine mixing. you look cooler then cds

cons: records cost alot of money, eventually you will need serato scratch (look it up) harder to learn with no tap tempo

    needles cost$

  • so even the best cdj isnt good for scratching?

  • the best cds are getting there but nothin will ever beat a tech 12. if you are willing to drop $1000 for wicked cdjs u might as well just buy 1200s and serato scratch live wich is a very professional setup. if you cant get 1200s make sure the deck is direct drive, belt drive is garbage. do you have any ideas what kind of setup you are lookin at and what price range? gimme a name and link :)

  • ebay!!!

  • Long live Breaks!!!!

  • that was actually pretty cool

  • Right on dude. That's what I do, BREAKBEAT. But I like to remix the songs more. haha

  • haha... that's exactly my mates Set... 2 Mk2 Turntables and a Djm600 mixer

    Anyway... i love your tutorials

  • Liked that....

  • break beats depending on wat instruments are in the song are easy if you have a snare in the song your basically got a breakbeat! im new to djin but i got the breakbeats!

  • Brilliant as always. Loved the spinback at 7:02!

  • Breaks is like mmm mmm good

  • THAT video has got me into breakbeat. Today its my #1 genre, even a little bit before hhouse :)

Changed me musical life hahah :D

  • You are great man.Thanks!!!

  • suck what you dont make trance music? is generation music

  • dude, been dj'in on and off havn't really taken it seriously but watchin ure tutorials helps me sooooo much!!! u r amazingly thorough and informative. plus im a huge breaks and d.n.b fan and this this demo soundz wicked hey!!! im glad someone has the humility to show someone else wat they learnt. thanks bro. much appreciated.

  • WOW, im not even into turn table mixing or DJing but this was really really cool and informative.

    Seriously, 2 thumbs up!!!

  • why do u never do anything about trance ??

  • he did one about mixin' with Trance...and there was pretty much everything inside witch you gotta know for mixin' Trance...;)

  • Excellent video johnathan, recommend people to purchase the ultimate breaks and beats collection from vol 1 to 25, highly recommended you buy doubles of these. Drum and bass was started by people sampling the break from 'the winstons' track could 'ahem brother' highly recommend you check it out.

  • Haha my spelling is rubbish today it is called 'the winstons - amen, brother' lol

  • wasn't that jungle? or both?

  • Both i believe, mainly the early stuff before jungle died out. Don't hear the break being sampled as much nowdays in the drum and bass scene tho.

  • breaks!!! now your talking MY language J!! :D love to hear you mix some breaks im really try to get some mixes going but sometimes its hard to beat match.

  • Haven't really tried this - looks fun though. Thanks for the tip!

  • I am so pleased you have done another video on Breaks/Breakbeat, as it's one of my favourite dance music genres. Really helpful, and supportive. Hope there are more videos of breaks to come.

  • agreed 1000% :)

  • this is very helpful!

    THNX

  • Great video, can you apply this to hip hop?

  • Hip Hop was founded and created by cutting old jazz, soul, funk, rock breaks up etc. Cutting breaks up was pioneered by the likes of Kool DJ Herc, Grandmaster Flash, The Original Jazzy Jay and so many other influential pioneers from the hip hop culture. To answer your question, yes!

  • Check out my old vid of me doing this. Not a tutorial but just a demo. peace ;)

  • Thats cool i like the way u explain things u spelled y4j wrong on ur description u put y$j

  • thanks j

  • Great Vid!I like your style!

  • there are 2 guys that did a mix for the back2back tenminmix (bangbrothers) and they've got some pretty damn sweet cuts in there. i'd check it out for more stuff like this. 10* vid j

  • thanks again john.

  • 1ste at al i would like to thank u for al your vids.

U are lovely crazy and u inspire lots of young and old dj's.

I am a dj now for 18 years and some things are realy normal for me,but for new guys to explain how it works damn thats a whole new ballgame.

So to end this post i will say U ROCK DUDE RESPECT AND STAY PUFT FROM HOLLAND

  • Where did you get your wide-angle lens? And what size is it?

  • got it from Jessups in the UK and Frig knows what angle thningemegig it is, i just asked for a wide angle lense, mmmmm , i need to take a look! j

  • lmao nice one,

good job im from derby, in the uk then lmao

might pop in tomorrow and just do the same thing lmao

nice one j keep it up

  • Great video. Your cutting skills are good and it was very well executed in the video.

Have you ever done cutting without using a second track? To create an effect of like a brief moment of silence before bringing back the original track?

  • wow, johnathan. that has to be one of your best tutorials. Breaks is a genre i have never really ventured into, but after watching that tight cutting, im keen to hear more! that was very well done! 5*

*is there any chance we might get to hear a breakbeat tenminmix from u??? that would be cool!

  • Now that sounded such tight ... I really lift up my not existing hat. Great tunes, great chopping !

One day I will come over to your place, hide in the garden with a professional microphone , and record all your 10.000 pieces of music !

    BEWARE ! :)

  • Great tutorial! A different style i have never really thought of it. Just have to make sure the instrumentals or just the beat itself have someone what of the same BPM or one is say 160BPM while the other is 80BPM

  • Nice !

  • Damn good!

  • Nice vid, u always have gr8 hats lol

  • <3 i love u

  • nice cap
